Re: Painting my alloy wheels black

I personally feel black paint is good only for basic wheel designs (a traditional 5 or multispoke or so). Otherwise for something like the Creta, I recommend Gunmetal grey to give the rather complex design of the wheels some distinct substance. Black will blend and make it look all the more confusing in my opinion.

If you have the inclination (and knack), space, time and patience. Nothing gives you the satisfaction of a DIY. Spray painting wheels is no biggie and not a specialised skill.

Plus you get it done to your satisfaction and you gain the skill to do a quick repair / touchup if needed anytime in the future.

Check this thread where I restored the alloys on my Fusion a dozen years ago. Still holding up all these years later.

Re: Painting my alloy wheels black

Looking at the pictures now I believe that NOT every car looks good with black alloys.

Some look good with silver, gold alloys.

Also the problem with black alloy wheels is that it makes the tyres look faded and old. In comparison a silver alloy makes the tyres look darker and new.

My Ignis has black alloys and it looks great! It looks better when covered with mud.

After washing and cleaning the alloys, they look shiny black and now the tyres look greyish before them.

Re: Painting my alloy wheels black

I had got our Safari Storme's wheels painted at the nearby 3M store. If I remember correctly it was 1k per wheel, but I am not sure. But it was a quality job.

The colour was glossy dark grey. These pictures must be a year after the paint job and the shine was the same.

Re: Painting my alloy wheels black

Work in progress. Two wheels down. Wanted to leave the gold/bronze, but knew it would look weird. The girth of the Hector somehow can't carry the black gold which looks awesome on any other car.
