Toilet installed in a Toyota Fortuner

Came across this video from Kerala where a full fledged toilet installed by removing part of third row seats. Installation looks neat and toilet gets a AC vent, seat belt and health faucet. Since the original panels are not removed, curtain airbag might work too. While I don't know the cost or implementation, given current COVID times this makes sense and safer option too.

re: Toilet installed in a Toyota Fortuner

I really can't imagine why someone would want such a toilet where you can't even close the door while sitting. In today's highway infrastructure, I am sure we can find a decent washroom at least every one hour of driving. If things are even worse, there are alternates available which wont require you to make such a modification. While the work might be executed in a neat fashion, I feel the same talent could be used elsewhere and have better outcomes.

re: Toilet installed in a Toyota Fortuner

Covid or no Covid, I simply don’t understand the need of using a commode in a car where you can’t even sit properly. Carrying and moving around with your own shit is not a bright idea after all when you get proper restrooms on the highways these days.

Someone wanted to be innovative but I am sure, there are better modifications available for a car than what seems to be a nauseating experience. I didn’t get the language in the video but the enthusiasm shown definitely needs some praise. Some modifications should not be tried, no matter how unique they seem to the eyes !!

re: Toilet installed in a Toyota Fortuner

What next? Swimming pool along with toilet? Or sports room along with swimming pool inside fortuner? This is similar to Chinese idea. When we were kids, we used to see lot of 2 in 1 or 3 in 1 functionalities embedded into one item that used to come as probably smuggled items. Ex: a pen with clock embedded. Pen and pencil together, 4 coloured pen, brief case inside which small typewriter, a palm sized tape recorder with radio, digital watch with camera etc

Neither it can be used efficiently for function 1 nor for function 2.

Similar principle is used here to build a toilet inside fortuner. (On a lighter side) I am just imagining what could be the condition of a person using toilet while car is at triple digits speed and suddenly a cattle appears from nowhere

In my view, this should be in official jokes section

re: Toilet installed in a Toyota Fortuner

Apart from being unnecessarily cramped as compared to any other public washroom out there, won't this smell quite bad even though it seems to be covered for the most part? I can't imagine having to stand the stench in case this thing gets choked (though I think it will get quite suffocating inside even if it doesn't)

I am not very sure if the curtain airbags will be able to deploy without obstruction either. The washroom covers a fair amount of space at the back and is placed very close to the C pillar. I don't think this will allow perfect curtain airbag operation.

Attachment 2190055
The airbag inflates out of the gap between the pillar trim and roof lining. In this case most of that gap is left undisturbed. But where the door would be, it would be slightly restrained. But the force of the inflation is such that the airbag would just rip open the door which is another topic, but the rest of the airbag would inflate more or less normally. That's why I don't really get amused by such modifications.

Just 2 words…Oh Crap!

This ‘innovation’, thinking behind the ‘innovation’ reminded me of Dr Sheldon Cooper in The Big Bang Theory

Looks like someone had too much money and time on their hands.
A sh*tty idea in my books. Totally unnecessary.

Oh man! There are a million different ways to use money, putting a toilet in a car isn’t the best!

I find it tough to drive with food smell inside the car. Wonder how the cabin atmosphere will be after someone finish their business.

Just not something that I can tolerate.

re: Toilet installed in a Toyota Fortuner

Does appear like an installation was made to just gain popularity or address a corner case. Given the times where everyone wants to isolate for eating food and avoid going to restaurant for toilet, installation was made keeping current situation in mind. I will be surprised if this will be put to use even once. If they had tried this on Tempo Traveller or a mini bus, could have actually got them some real customers.

NOT a modification that I'd think to do ever in any car of any size. The pandemic surely has caused a lot of issues with respect to travel, hygiene etc but authorities should not allow such MODS to be done in a car.

I guess this MOD should get featured in the "Weird and Wacky MODS" thread.

re: Toilet installed in a Toyota Fortuner

First, I would rather use a farm or poor near a tree just in case it was that urgent. Anyway, the highways and state ways have pretty decent toilets every 30 to 50 kms. So, the mod itself looks unnecessary. I can understand if it's a camper, that thing looks so cramped, if someone rear ends that car, the person inside will be stuck there for quite some time! Am sure when the airbags deploy in such a scenario, the entire makeshift bathroom will fly to the left of the boot. I can only imagine what will happen if someone is inside right at that time. Also, did I read it had an AC vent? Oh dear Lord.

I don't understand the need to have a toilet in a car.

What I also don't understand is the need to park in the centre of the road to shoot this.

I have travelled extensively in buses/mini bus with attached toilet. It is not that bad. We do not know the real reason behind this Fortuner installation. I know someone who does not step in to public rest rooms. There are people who does not use toilets in trains/flights.

re: Toilet installed in a Toyota Fortuner

Always wonder why so many wierd things come from Kerala.

With that time a lot more better things could have been done instead of this crap on a Fortuner, no case even for a utility.
