Re: In-Car wireless phone charging is seriously overhyped!

I have been in the market to get an aftermarket wireless charger since quite a while.

Only reason that I haven't is because the reviews which say phone heats up a lot. I have my eyes on the iOttie and waiting for travel to open up so someone can carry it for me from the US.

My reasoning for the wireless charger is different.

I run an offroad school based over 65 acres of land and only a few spots get network in the area.

So the phone is constantly searching for network which is the biggest battery drain.

For the teaching process I need to get in and out of the vehicle and thus I need to keep plugging in and out the phone because I also need the phone to shoot photos and videos and keep it charged.

A wireless option would make life really easy for my use.

Wireless charging in a car is primarily for aesthetics rather than practicality. Once fast wireless charging reaches , say 60-70 pc of wired charging speeds , there is a question of consideration. Till then , wired charging rules

Try a cheap one, make sure to put a transparent tape over its touch sensitive release button, so that there are no accidental opening of the clamp. These things are motorised for some reason.

I tried a cheap one and it's still working, the phone can draw only so much power and the coil can provide only a moderate speed, I don't think it will heat up if running just navigation and music, I have not observed any such problems with the charger we have.

iOttie also has a mechanical one which I would prefer over the automated option.

Which brand do you use?

This one (INR 799), I wanted to see if it was any good. So far it works fine charges fast as well using an Mi cigarette light adapter.

Link

There is a version by Capdase, expensive but perhaps worth checking and of course plenty of cheap ones as well with different names.

I do not see this feature as a way to charge the phone. Mobile phone OEM's DO NOT recommend using any charger or cable but their own. Car's wireless charging functionality is tied to the infotainment system which enables calls & Android/Apple connectivity wirelessly and that's better than wired and that's all that matters.
