Re: Rear Bumper Delete : Silly new trend catching on in India

Those mass market cars without rear bumpers looks like it came halfway out from the production line. Absolutely horrendous and IMHO they belong to the weird and whacky mod jobs thread. Lamborghini Huracan and the Porsche looks gorgeous on the other hand. I used to be proud of Keralites' taste in modification but this is a let down.

Re: Rear Bumper Delete : Silly new trend catching on in India

Acceptable to an extent to see mechanicals exposed on super cars for rear-engined ones.

What does our humble sedans, MPV’s, hatchbacks want to expose?

Those ugly looking bulges or weld mounts?!

Next is front bumper delete? Or to replicate a door-less Thar, I only hope the copycats don’t lose their doors on these cars!

Re: Rear Bumper Delete : Silly new trend catching on in India

The Huracan in the first post is now sold to an enthusiast in Chennai. It was primarily done for a better cooling during the track days in Chennai summers and of course also visual appeal. Who wouldn't want to stare at the symmetrical rear of the Brenacan (used to be called that with the previous owner). Current owner has the bumper back on and it looks even better now

Re: Rear Bumper Delete : Silly new trend catching on in India

Don't know why anybody would want his/her car to look like that. Functional mod is one thing but doing this for aesthetic reasons? These are probably the people who listen to dhinchak pooja on repeat.

Re: Rear Bumper Delete : Silly new trend catching on in India

I think rear bumper deletes only look OK when everything is kept symmetrical. Unfortunately, that's not the case on regular road cars which generally have one-sided exhausts to give an example.

Classic example of a clean job on a Corvette below.

Well one might say that the cars as well as their owners are in need of a good spanking to get them back to their senses.

I guess bumper was not the only thing that was deleted to come up with such ridiculous ideas.

But the guys have got what they were looking for : attention.

Re: Rear Bumper Delete : Silly new trend catching on in India

Honestly I have not seen any such "trend" in North India (for good), except for accidental cars or the ones waiting for repairs.

Extremely surprised how people find it "trendy", IMHO it looks horrible and completely spoils the overall looks of the car apart from being illegal and cop magnet. I am surprised from where these people get such stupid ideas from ?

Re: Rear Bumper Delete : Silly new trend catching on in India

Please excuse the analogy, but this is a bit like wearing your clothes all over the body but exposing your derričre. It looks hideous no matter how you perceive it.
With increasing money, people have lost a sense of aesthetics. Mediocrity prevails in every sphere of our lives from politics to product quality to cultural tastes.

Re: Rear Bumper Delete : Silly new trend catching on in India

I remember seeing a couple of cars with the rear bumper removed and thought it must be an urgent run to bring the car from the workshop, but knowing the reason now, it is plain stupid, to say the least. On some vehicles it may be ok, but in normal cars, its crazy, what happens if he gets rear ended.

Re: Rear Bumper Delete : Silly new trend catching on in India

There were company sponsored bumper subtractions in a few cases in the past. Though these nowhere match the weirdness in looks as compared to the facts we are discussing in this thread, they can be informative. Standard Herald since 1960 did not have separate bumper units, but the bodyline protruded at the location where the front and rear bumpers were located. No doubt, it had 2+2 bumper guards.

Hindustan Motors while introducing the Ambassador Mark 4 in February 1979, deleted the central unit of the front bumper. Not sure of the reason though ! Soon by 1981, they again added this missing portion. Again not sure of the reason though!

Coming to bumper subtractions by owners/ users it is perhaps a fad to show off the respective machine in a customised avatar (show off of the rear axle, fuel tank, exhaust/s) after undergoing some quick-fix and hassle-free surgeries at a bare minimum cost, irrespective of how the final look is or what it's implications are from safety point of view in this modified form.

We have already discussed about the two OE rear view mirrors getting unbolted and detached in a large number of two wheelers by the respective owners/ users in a separate thread.

Such weight reduction exercises will go on and on. Ingenuity will lead to maybe some other subtractions as time moves on.

Re: Rear Bumper Delete : Silly new trend catching on in India

If removing rear view mirrors was a level 5 on insanity, this is close to 9 on that scale. I don't get this at all, why would someone do this to begin with? Is it good for the optics? NO, does it enhance performance? NO, does it make the ride more safe? NO. In fact, I think with the kind of road rage in countries like India, people would be tempted to touch and go the rear of these cars once in a while. Next what? Remove the engine bonnet altogether? That would be 10 on insanity scale

Re: Rear Bumper Delete : Silly new trend catching on in India

We should stop giving ideas to automobile companies, they might start selling bumpers as accessories in the future if this weird trend continues. Personally I would never do it as those bumpers might be part of the system wherein a car crumbles in the event of an accident, not sure though, experts can shed some light here.
