Roof Mounted / Overhead Carrier for Swift, Santro etc

Hi Guys,

I travel a lot with lot of luggage. A removable roof mounted carrier on my Swift would make it very easy to carry them. In the US, I have come across roof mounts for carriers suitable for gutterless roof like that of Swift, has any one seen such installations on Swift or does any one know where this can be done in Bangalore.

I think even Innova has no gutters and would use a similar config like
Thule #400XTR Rapid Aero Gutterless Complete Car Roof Mounted Rack System. Set of 4 Aero #400XTR Tower Feet, Fit Kit and Load Bars.

hey vishnugs , I think there is a brand of removable roof mounted carrier which is available for a Swift and Alto. If possible check AutoCar last month (Jan) edition . I remember having read about it and have seen an Alto in Bangalore also with that carrier.

I can't recollect but somebody recently mentioned that having a roof carrier is illegal on private registration cars. It is only allowed on taxi registration cars.

Don't flame me. It sounded weird even to me and i am not sure how correct is that.

roof-top carrier on a swift!!!

hmm i wish people traveled lighter.

no hurt meant to you Vishnu, this is just my personal grumble each time I pack to travel on the highways. atleast some tribal noises that i made managed to convince my folks that a roof-top carrier on an OHC will bring about a masacre.

why dont you think of a trailer or a caravan instead?

Thanks

Hi Friends,

Thanks a lot, I have got good pointers from the thread to look out for a carrier.

Dont worry folks, I wont spoil the image of the swift with the carrier always ;-) I would just want it when I go on a long tour with 5 passenger, thats why I said I was looking for a removable one.

Thule is the way to go then. It can be unlocked by just a turn of key!!
Very easy to fit and remove. The rails will stay on the car though!

Are there dealers for Thule products in South India (preferably in Bangalore)?

Fitting overhead carrier on Santro

Hello,

I have a 2004 Santro and make frequent trips to pick up relatives from Bangalore Airport. If there are more than two-three ppl with luggage I have to hire a cab :( (I will not be able to afford it when the new airport comes online).

Any suggestions for fitting an overhead carrier on the Santro? I have seen one-two fittings but they are off low quality like the ones you see on IndiCabs.

Is the Santro roof designed to take the weight of overhead luggage?

I think I have done due dilegence on the forum but could not find a related topic. Pleae direct me if one exists.
thanks!

hey, there are other links which indicate that thule and tropicool could have solutions for you. there are good looking racks like the one on fiat palio adventure. do check them out.
