Exactly my thoughts. I'm all for this clamp down.

I usually use these bikes for long rides and so prefer less "noise" making stock exhaust. Still due to these clamp down all people get affected. It will be tough to reason out with these officials.

Have seen instances in youtube where the rider was flagged down by official for wearing full riding kit and the bike was taken to the police station by a constable. They did not allow him to ride to the police station.. Yes he was let off but who'll compensate the time lost, mental tension etc. Sorry to say that's sad state of affairs. I always use full riding kit during my travels and would be very apprehensive to pass my bike to other persons whatever may be the reason. Let God help me.

Thanks to the detune fixing saga, along with the Arrow exhaust, the engines of Triple 675s were remapped as well. I believe this is a Euro spec map with a higher power output, Im not sure of the claimed output as I didnt own the motorcycle at that time.

P.S - You say noise, I say sound. Po-ta-to. Po-tah-toh.
There are two types of exhaust kits, the slip on or full system. Yes there is definitely power increase which varies with the system used. Normally it is seen to offer 5 to 8% increase in bhp and torque. Also there is significant weight reduction. They remove the catalytic converter also.

With unleaded fuel that automatically invalidates any pollution certificate you might have. Even with additives to the petrol.

Yes, that's the point. Not only these slip on's and full exhaust systems cause noise pollution, they also releases CO in the air. Still they do it

As per info, yes. They are targeting all and jeepers groups there are also considering legal approach to distinguish them from other modified cars. Jeep Captain can shed more light but I have seen a pic where a modded Bolero was seized by police and also there is some protest going on already.

There should be a clear definition of useful modifications vs nonsense or harmful modifications. And this should be educated to authorities who are taking this action.

Was there any common factor to the seized jeeps? Heavily over tyred? Aux or light bars? Bull bars?

Just to clarify: US DMV will not clamp down on Modifications or Exhaust upgrades, as long as the vehicle passes inspections. I had exhausts on my motorcycle and my car, and as long as it adhered to be under 105 DB i was fine.

Kerala MVD would be doing their job better by going after Polluting vehicles or the ones which have no inspection or brake lights rather than enforcing some stupid and silly rule interpreted by My Lords sitting in the high and mighty SC. Banana republic anyone?

A vehicle is bought by a person with his hard earned money, he should be able to customise it to his tastes. Its the second most expensive investment after a house and helps stimulate the economy, giving millions of people jobs. By going after this industry, you are affecting peoples livelihood in a country where jobs are not coming by easily.

What if you deleted the cat con on your bike or car to fit the new exhaust?

Apparently now the RTO & MVD is visiting college campuses to crack down on the modified cars and bikes.

Just drove 80km in Kerala, glad to know if I get into an accident or run over by careless bikers, the offending party won't be having illegal mods. Seriously, a check on dangerous driving in the Kumily - Vagamon tourist circuit could net more dangerous drivers than this power trip, driven by jealousy that some youngsters may be having a good time.

I had mine deleted on both my vehicles. As long as it passed inspection it doesn’by give codes when attached to their computers it will pass.

Friend had his subaru tuned to 500 bhp which was fine too and all jeeps and Harley’s did get modified either suspension wise or exhausts. You could do as you wished with it.

Kerala police are being draconian by going after modified jeeps, mind you these were the same jeepers who went out of the way and helped in the rescue activities during Kerala floods. Looks like political murder is not the main issue, but a modified Jeep is.

Re: Kerala cops clamp down on modified cars via social media posts!

A fish truck with a drain pipe which belches it's"squeamish" discharge at every turn is a "mod", right?

If the objective is either road safety or revenue, going after these trucks should be a higher priority. If it's harassment, good luck.

Wish the knowledgeable officers had more common sense than enthusiasm while playing the role of the eager pawn in an invisible chess game for brownie points.

Cheers

You said it. Misplaced priorities + playing to the gallery + spiteful envy that is the hallmark of the species.

What is happening now is a witch-hunt that has lost its focus on public health and safety and is plainly resentful intrusion into private lives. This has happened before with several such ‘campaigns’ run by people with a massive chip on the shoulder. Its like a free pass to force themselves into the private lives of individuals.

I am all for reducing noise from those stupid (mostly Bullet) silencers and stopping drag races on the street, but you are more likely to be maimed or killed on KL roads by maniac Govt and Private (who go by the name of ‘Red Killers’ in Kochi) buses, tipper lorries and suicidal autorickshaws that don’t even meet basic safety requirements than by a person who has ‘modded’ his vehicle.

One more organization to do a road rally and hartal. Only if they do a rally of modified vehicles that is so much extra fun for the RTO.

Silly college kids protesting against MVD on public roads. The cops intervened when it caused traffic jam and took away the keys from some of the bikes.
