Good decision. I have mentioned this few times earlier and also in my original post that upgrading LEDs in reflector high beams is not recommended since generally the beam will scatter more and gets worse on highways with limited visibility. Stick to halogens on high beam, get the better ones like OSram NB etc if you feel the need for bit better brightness.

Do try this out on a open road and see, generally it will scatter more and become less effective compared to a halogen.

Already done, the visibility is far better than the earlier halogen headlamps and road signs esp. become very brightly lit.

The one downside I have faced is that the reflection from white cars is too bright.

I think I see what you mean. There is almost no throw on the ground, but the beam pattern is still level. I would love to try this on my motorcycle. Only I ride that motorcycle, while my family uses the car a lot.

Re: Comprehensive guide to LED Headlight upgrades

It is an issue with H4 reflectors more than the Leds, and it is exaggerated by the high brightness.

Honestly, you have to see these in action to get how bright they are, the camera doesn't have the dynamic range.

Enlightenment on this is surely welcome!
Attaching a recent video from my Dashcam of a trip on Samruddhi Express way.
Fogs: H16 LED Beam 46W pair Dual Colour
Low Beam Projectors: H7 AuxBeam 120W pair 6000K
High Beam Reflectors: H1 Osram Halogens 110W pair (OEM Supplied)

The video quality may not be good as the DashCam is chinese make, but the lighting did inspire confidence as this was a first trip on a highway in night time after installation of H7 Projectors and H16 Fogs.

Re: Comprehensive guide to LED Headlight upgrades

Has anyone tried these 3rd party projector foglamps? Is the light output and throw anywhere near as good as upgrading the main headlights?

The stock output of the LED headlights on the Innova Hycross is pathetic. Well no biggie, figured I would just change the bulbs like I had on my previous cars. Was an unpleasant surprise to find that the entire headlight is one sealed unit and the LEDs cannot be removed or replaced like some kind of luxury german car despite not having any fancy light bending capabilities!

Since changing the entire headlight assembly on a brand new car is out of question, I was looking for other upgrades and these projector fog lamps are what is generally being pushed over other auxilary lights like an LED light bar. Does anyone have any first hand experience with it?

I have tried both projector fog lamps (IPH M617) in my Jeep Compass and also Osram CBI Pro inbuilt Headlight projectors (In my MG Hector Plus). The difference is really substantial in both cars. For the Hycross you can first go for GTR Fog light projectors and see if that serves your purpose. If not the only other option would be to have the headlight units opened and retrofitted with Osram CBI Pro projectors.
Don't go for any Aux lights or Light bars as both are illegal and caught by Traffic cops in most cities.

Thank you for replying. Are you talking about a substantial difference between fog projectors and headlight projectors? I'm wondering if these small fog projectors that sit so low down will actually be useful.

Good Fog Projectors like AES/ GTR/ IPH are much stronger than headlight projectors. In my Jeep Compass the headlight projector was really pathetic. Compared to those the LED fog projector (IPH M617) which I got was 3x for low beam. GTR and AES would be almost 4x.
I have also seen the Hycross headlights (have also booked one too) and I feel the GTR fog lights should be at least 2x of the low beam if not more. Only challenge will be whether you want to tap the high beam or not. If you don't want to do that you can use them in permanent low beam mode. Else you can also wire them in permanent high beam and aim them low so that there is no glare to oncoming drivers.

I would like to tap into the high beam. It's the tiny high beam which lacks range or intensity. The first time I switched on brights while facing a wall, I was wondering if the left side brights were working at all.

I mostly intent to use them on highways or during heavy rains where it really feels like I'm driving with the headlight off. It was on a Tamil Nadu trip where I was overwhelmed with how pitch black it was with no streetlights and oncoming cars refusing to dim their lights.

By the way, if the compass stock projectors use a normal HB3/9005 etc removable bulb, you can just change them to brighter LEDs for a massive boost in brightness. I had a post on my upgrading bulbs on my i20 stock projectors : https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/diy-d...undai-i20.html (DIY: LED headlamps upgrade for stock halogen projectors (Hyundai i20))

Re: Comprehensive guide to LED Headlight upgrades

Hi all,

I'm looking to upgrade the bulbs on my XUV300 headlights. My car comes with an H7-Projector setup for Low Beam and H1-Reflector for High Beam; both being halogens from OEM. The car also has auto headlight feature.

A few months ago, I upgraded the Low Beam halogens to Osram Night Breakers and it marginally improved the performance but it is still nowhere near confidence inspiring during rains or highways. On a recent trip back from Ooty, there were heavy rains and the visibility was very poor straining my eyes. I had to drive with the High Beam on and headlamp leveler pointed down on the road.

I want a serious upgrade to both Low Beam and High Beam, preference obviously being the Low Beam. And since I find the Auto headlight feature quite useful in certain situations (like slightly long underpasses, thick forest roads etc.), I don't think HIDs would be the right option. Correct me if I'm wrong, my understanding is that frequent on/off cycles are bad for HIDs; moreover since there is a "boot up" time to achieve full brightness, it is anyway not going to be useful.

With that, LEDs remain as the option. But I'm completely confused on which LEDs to go with. I'm on a super tight budget and don't want to experiment with different bulbs.

I had the following specific question to experts on the forum:
  1. Is there a no-brainer go to brand that will at least give me 2x of halogen visibility, while ensuring beam patterns are "near" OEM?
  2. Do all LED upgrades require a CANbus?
  3. Most LEDs are at 6000K temperature. How good is 6000K in rains? Fog situation is pretty rare where I live, but it rains quite a lot. I have seen in some posts about OSRAM 4200K - But I cannot find an official website link to that product.

Thanks in advance!

I have a Scorpio S10 which I believe has the same low beam projector setup as your XUV300. Please go back to posts #486 (Comprehensive guide to LED Headlight upgrades) and #488 (Comprehensive guide to LED Headlight upgrades) for my review of installing Osram 6000k LED's in the low beam (H7 Projector's). I would recommend you stick with Halogens in the high beam reflectors, but maybe upgrade to Osram Nightbreakers or equivalent.

But to answer your questions directly:
1 - I would personally stick with Osram LED's as they are good quality, from a reputed manufacturer and have good reviews for your personal use case. They are plug and play and the entire setup fits neatly inside the dust cap. The beam pattern is excellent and OEM like. I have been using it for 10 months now with ZERO issues.
2 - I don't think you will need a CANBUS for your XUV300, maybe for German cars, but I definitely did not for my Scorpio.
3 - 6000k has been fine for me in the rains, not fantastic, but still better than stock. I am tempted to go for the newer 4200k LEDs, however waiting for them to drop in price a bit.

Here is the link to the 6000k LED's on Amazon: https://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B08L93GX5K/ (no longer returnable).

The 4200k LED's are also available but more than double the price: https://www.amazon.in/Osram-HEADLIGH...dp/B0CFHPFQW7/

If you do go for the Osram's, please remember to install the LED chips in the right orientation, at 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock, else you would get an extremely unhealthy cutoff.

Hope this helps!

The Amazon page seems to be fake/incorrect listing by the seller. While the title says 4200K, among the details the temperature is mentioned as 6000K.

Furthermore, I cannot find such a product anywhere on Osram's website (both India and International). I have heard about this 4200K new gen Osram, but unable to find any official documentation on this and hence the confusion.

You can purchase Osram LED 50W 4200K from here (just ensure you select the right Kelvin 4200K before placing the order): https://www.planetcarcare.com/collections/leds-50w

Apply the code OSRAM500 at checkout for getting a further discount of INR 500 (I had requested them for some discount and got this from them!).
