Dragy GPS Performance Meter - VBox competitor at 1/3rd the price!

I was planning to pick up V box or G Tech to accurately time my cars. They are quite expensive at around 30k. I came across a new product called Dragy. It was just 150 USD and many reviews claimed it was as accurate as V Box (but at 1/3 rd price ).

Video Reviews :

All the reviews were positive. The pricing was also easy on pocket. Yajur (E Tuners) and Rahul (APR Bangalore) had also got Dragy. They were all praises for this product. Rahul also confirmed that Dragy and V Box timings were almost same when they did the testing together.

I decided to get Dragy. I checked at Amazon and it was around 18k including import fees deposit, that's almost double the price. I hoped that someone would hand carry it. Rahul told me that he had an extra dragy with him few days back. I transferred the amount immediately (Rs.10,500) and got it .

The device is very easy to use and you can share the results instantly. We can time 0-100, 1/4th mile, 100-200 kmph etc etc. There is option of custom mode too, where you can define the speeds.

The box consists of dragy, USB charging cable, 2 mounting plates and user manual. It's very convenient to set it up. Fully charge the dragy and it will have 10 hours of battery life. We can place the dragy anywhere in the car, ideally it should be placed horizontally facing the sky.

Download the dragy app for IOS / Android. Open the app, set up your username and password and connect to dragy. Dragy would be connected in few seconds and you are good to go. Dragy would automatically log 0-100, 1/4 th mile, custom defined speeds etc. It's very fast and results are consistent.

IOS users have the option of video mode too. It's pretty cool. As per Dragy, it would be available for Android users in next couple of weeks.

I have timed only my Wolfed SX4. I got a very impressive 10.79 seconds (0-100). This was with little slipping of clutch. Also the timing in dragy would be little slower than V Box because it doesn't consider 1 foot roll out time.

I will time my others cars and post it later. Really impressed with this little Dragy and superb VFM price.

Likes :

1. Pricing
2. Easy to use
3. Compact
4. Good battery life
5. Consistent results

What could be better?

1. Video mode for android users (it should be available soon)
2. No track mode / lap timer
3. 20 hz GPS chip

Because of the pricing and ease of use, I would prefer it over V Box any day. It meets all my requirements.

I would like to thank Yajur from E tuners for suggesting this product and Rahul from Harmonix tuning for providing it to me. Thanks a lot guys!

Re: Dragy GPS Performance Meter - VBox competitor at 1/3rd the price!

Got chance to time my Wolfed S-Cross 1.6. The car is running with old Falken tyres, swapped from my SX4. There was massive wheel spin, still got 8.85s which is much better than stock 1.6 (11.5s). I am sure it would be close to 8 seconds with Continental MC5 and on dry road. I had got 7.9s on G Tech .

Okay, this is a simple 10Hz GPS module. 50$ gets you 10hz GPS modules pretty easily, and i guess with an android app paired you can basically use any 10Hz GPS.

That said how are timings with 2 decimal places of GPS is 10Hz? It does not seem to have any gyroscope or accelerometer built in

It is possible to even DIY a setup like this for very cheap price. But I am not sure about the quality and reliability of these cheaper modules.

Many users have got their numbers very very close to their drag slip timings.

I believe only G-Tech Pro gets 50 HZ GPS module, Gyroscope, Accelerometer and Magnetometer. But, the timings are again almost same as V-Box with 20 HZ module.

Why go DIY? You get good quality 10Hz GPS bluetooth trackers commercially for 50-100$
GPS is just a simple receiver, and since its commercialized, there is no real reason for it to be expensive. So often same receivers in a niche application are far more expensive as there is no competition, not because they are super high quality or rare

Many users have got their numbers very very close to their drag slip timings.
But the spec says 10Hz, so the unit has no way of knowing actual 2 dec place time. Even 1Hz can calcuate upto 10 decimal places by mathematics
So lets say you want to do 0-60
At 10 sec you get 58kmph, and at 11sec you get 62kmph. By simple mathematics you can show user a time of 10.5 which will be very close to real time. However, that is just the app, not really the receiver.

Due to predictive 1/10 sec speed increments, any 10Hz unit software I think can do a pretty accurate guess. It will be inaccurate if you do something like 0-60 for a supercar, however very accurate over a low power vehicle with <200bhp/tonne

That said a friend pointed me to doppler shift
http://insidegnss.com/how-does-a-gns...mate-velocity/

So yes there may be more going on. Not familiar with this very much

I think that would be because unless you are timing a top fuel dragster, guesstimate will be very good

Yes, but as long as it gives me timings similar to slip times, I really don't have a problem .

Dragy has become popular for it's ease of use. Instant results and we can share it easily too. My point was when we get similar timings on Dragy, why pay 2 or 3 times more for V Box or G tech.

I had not really considered the option of buying 10 HZ GPS module and use it with 3rd party apps. If it gives similar results, that should be a better and cheaper option than Dragy too. Torque Pro app has option of connecting to external GPS module.

0 to 100 - 8.65 secs. No launch. With luggage and 1 passenger. We were on the way to Bangalore today.

That's just awesome for a van weighing close to 2000 kgs. You are faster than even tuned VAG 1.5 / 1.6 TDI's.

I did 8.89 seconds in Stage 1 1.6 GT TDI with launch and driven alone.

Re: Dragy GPS Performance Meter - VBox competitor at 1/3rd the price!

Alongwith the earlier 0 to 100 i had also done a casual quartermile run. Didnt realise the timing was worth anything until my friend Naren said its pretty nice for a van.

So here it is...

The timing is brilliant for your van running with just ECU remap. I say this because I have timed many stock and remapped cars.

You did it in 15.9 seconds , that's faster than even tuned Abarth Punto, Polo 1.6 GT TDI and my S-Cross too .
