Hill Road currently is one of the finest motorable roads in the world, even better than the Saddam Boulevard in Baghdad city.
The eastbound section of the road ( towards Bandstand) is currently under construction. Which means that in various parts, it consists of setting cement, gaping holes, stinking drainpipes & the occasional dead pedestrian lying there. The BMC, of course, are furiously at work chewing paan.
The westbound section, ( towards Bandra Railway Station) is another stinking mess, as all traffic is now eastbound here - i.e. people are officially driving on the wrong side of the road. The hawkers have not moved from their original places, Goldilocks with his nice red OHC is parked perpendicular to the sidewalk, pedestrians still continue to walk there, rickshaws & them damn put-puttee wallahs still shove their front wheels everywhere, & every two minutes, you can see a BEST bus honking it's brains out like a poor dying walrus. Any available space is taken by poor car owners such as yours truly.
I made the mistake of driving down that road last Sunday. When I finally emerged on Tuesday morning, I was nearly out of petrol, was suffering from heat exhaustion & burns, & I'd eaten the front tyres & the stepney of wifey's Alto in hunger.
An alternate route? Hara-kiri. |
