Have a Dash cam installed.

Well even i am from those kind of people who like to have the boot completely empty! I don't know why, Maybe because of the rattles of things or it doesn't look tidy when the security at the malls opens the boot for checking!
I just have the first aid kit and a bottle of water.

Although, It really makes sense to carry puncture kits and other such items if someones hits the highway frequently.

This is a nice thread. Here is what I keep in my boot (apart from the usual bulb/fuse/toolkit etc.):
- Compressor and Tubeless repair kit
- Towing belt ( flat nylon type )
- Waterless car wash and microfiber cloth set
- ArmorAll windshield spray
- Jump cable set
- My own advanced first aid kit ( I could do a small operation on the side of the road if required )

After going through the thread I have decided to add Duct Tape to the kit.

Interesting thread, I have most of these in my car.

Question, which of these items need to be replaced regularly since the temperatures can be very high in a locked car?

I used to have a fire extinguisher that lost its pressure after 2 years I think, haven't gotten a new one yet. Another thing I am planning to put is carbon monoxide detector.

I carry a folding bicycle and a stash of cash. If the car is unusable for any reason then I'm ready to abandon it.

I do like my car as much as other people like theirs. Yet it is just a piece of metal. 1000 kg of car is worth a mere Rs. 12,000 in scrap market rates.

Oh yeah, I do carry a few PVC pipes. You can strap them together and hammer the open end with a rubber pad to make music. YouTube has a couple of videos you may like.

I carry just a few things-
1. WD 40 (small can). seen mechanics struggle in stupid ways with stuck nut/bolts. So to save my car, I decided to keep the smallest can in the boot.
2. M-Seal
3. Tool kit, spare bulbs/fuses which came with the car.
4. Tubeless Puncture repair kit.
5. A basic Swiss army knife.


All these don't occupy much space. I keep them next to the tyre, under the boot mat.

The car is getting older, So I am considering adding Jump start cables, Tow rope and spare belts too.

Any suggestions for a good quality Jump start cable and Tow rope? (Hyundai Accent)

How does one use WD40 on a stuck nut? Say if you have to change ur tire and the nut/bolt is stubborn. If you spray WD40 in them, won't the spanner slip as well?

This WD chemical is not like say, turpentine which can be splashed on to a rusted bolt. It is more like a foamy fire extinguisher chemical in appearance.

You may have used BAYGON insect repellent aerosol cans. They have a hinged pipe to aim at and shoot a condemned mosquito. This WD also has a thin pipe to aim and release a small amount of the WD chemical.

If this cannot do your job then a sledgehammer is the professional choice to displace rust.

Quiet an exhaustive list here on the essentials. This will be a ready-reference for everybody to "must-have" items in car dikki. I carry a few of the listed essentials as well.

In addition, there are a few other essentials to be carried in the car OR along with the passengers.

1) A portable vacuum cleaner. This is a very useful tool to clean up, especially after kids week end car party.
2) Fold-able chairs and a large mat for those gardens / beach outings.
3) Tow ropes
4) Glass breaker tool in the glove box / below the driver seat.
5) All car docs.


Another important ritual which I follow on my outstation trips is to carry the spare / additional Key in my wife's vanity bag. This way, you won't be stranded at unknown places in-case if the remote-control key battery dies down OR worst case scenario, you loose or misplace your keys on your tour. Spare key will come to your rescue in such situations, because you know, ladies never loose sight of their bags even for a second and you can be assured keys are safe.....

What i like ?

Interesting!
I like my boot tidy, and would love to have it empty altogether but well, you can't get everything.

1. Jopasu duster
2. Jumper cable
3. Plastic and cloth bags (don't like using new ones every time and well, grocery shopping trips!)
4. Suitcase (have a change of clothes for 3 days at any given time for random plans when I don't get home)
5. Air freshener cause well, smoking is an issue!
6. Glass wiper to keep the glass clean after jopasu does its magic
7. Extra spanner incase of emergency
8. Umbrella throughout the year
9. Cloths for wiping the glasses, hand etc when needed
10. Snacks! Yes there are times when I'm hungry and there's no food around so chips help
11. Last but not the least, a carton of cigarettes cause you may never know when you need more
