Re: Review: 60W Cree LED Light Bar

Can I use this LED bar on my bike. My bike's headlight has a very poor illumination and a poor throw. I thought of buying those square type lights and mounting it on the crash bar . I have a CBZ xtreme , will my bike's battery be able to handle this load ? What would be an ideal bulb rating for my bike ?

You can go for a smaller light like a cube with 4X10W cree LEDs(Total 40W). Current draw will be just 2.8A approx, so your bike can easily take it.

Re: Review: 60W Cree LED Light Bar

@TSK, do these lamps have the same throw as is said in the product listings ?

eg: If a lamp is listed on a site and says about 30 W and 500 m throw (Spot beam). Will it have that much throw ? What is the realistic illumination that one can expect ?

Is there anything with a 10 degree beam ?

Depends on brand to brand. Aurora 40W has a beam narrower than 12 degrees. Illumination is about 40-50% more than a stock high beam.

To get 500m throw from a 30W, you will need true hyper spot optics. Usually the extinction range is about 500m, but usable range is just 90m or so.

Re: Review: 60W Cree LED Light Bar

This is a DIY type of light bar just for fooling of time on a lazy Sunday. The heat sink I used is a local market one. SMD LEDs which are 3 Watts each. Just wired them fixed them on the heat sink and the light bar was ready to be installed. I bought two local market conical reflectors as the light just scattered away and did not have a straight beam to light up the road ahead.
Let the pictures do rest of the talking.

I installed it on bike just for self demo purpose. Did not use it on road as the fitting was not perfect to be fit for road use. Just hooked the heat sink on the number plate.

I am pretty amazed with the light throw of the 2x3W LEDs. Did not expect such a on road visibility.
Will be looking forward to make it a permanent setup on bike but with a good housing and proper fitting.

If possible, try to fit the lights on either side on the crash guard (?). Will improve the 'visual footprint' of your bike as well.

Woah, that's some light output! Just one thing, isn't it placed a little too high? If you switch it on in the city, you'd better take the guy in front of you to the hospital for blinding him!

My Government number plate is behind the guard so didn't want to block it as light bar is very wide.
So i mounted it higher and i am using custom leather cover to hide led bar.
I only use this light on high speed Highways and while off roading and it's slightly twisted left to avoid hesitation for oncoming traffic. Other times it stays hidden under leather cover.

Re: Review: 60W Cree LED Light Bar

Floods are always a problems in my opinion. For average driving speed and stopping distances, spots are ideal as it enables you to see whats front of you - few hundred meters from your vehicle.

A couple of pictures of my HID beam 100W in 9 inch size running 6000K color temp, ideal for long throws and aids perfectly in stopping distances.Light bleeding away is also considerably less. First Pic is stock beam on the Thar and second pic is stock plus HID.
