Re: LED Headlamp Bulbs are here! The end of HID?

Picked up these H4 LED lamps (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/H4-H...311.0.0.rYx9BH) from Aliexpress and installed them in my 2009 i10.

Details here - http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/diy-do...-2009-i10.html

Have a Tata Hexa XTA which comes with low beam projectors and high beam halogens. I am satisfied with the halogen high beam but the low beam in city traffic is quite inadequate. Both bulbs are H7 so I need assistance for upgrading the bulbs of low beam projectors. Should I opt for leds or HID for high beam? I also observed that both high beam and low beam cut off a bit on the right side I think it is to prevent glare against oncoming traffic I wanted to know whether this can be fixed? Regards.

I guess you meant low beam. I would recommend HIDs over LEDs anyday (as of now). Since you are satisfied with the high beams, upgrade your low beams to 4300k HIDs. As for the cutoff, this is what you see in RHD cars. Wouldn't recommend altering it's alignment.

Yes sir I meant low beams it was a typographical error. Sir any leads or links as to where should I procure HIDs for the projectors. I have made some research across some forums and i have come to the conclusion that the projectors themselves are inadequate. So i am in need of some assistance to choose a HID unit. Regards.

You may check out Morimoto HIDs. They are priced similarly when compared to Philips and Osram. They have a dealer in Mumbai and Delhi. Please check their website for details.

It also depends on the quality of projectors.

Re: LED Headlamp Bulbs are here! The end of HID?

Posting on behalf of my friend. I would like to upgrade Innova crysta's high beam bulbs to LED. OEM highbeam barrel houses HB3 halogen.
I need your suggestions for upgrading to LED bulbs for the same. Following are thr queries.

1. Which brand to opt?
2. Size of the bulbs?
3. What Kelvin?
4. Safety considerations to be taken care off while installing?
5. Will it void manufacturers warranty?

Hello Arvind,
Bumped into your post while searching for Philips LED reviews. I am considering installation of Philips Ultinon H4 in my Baleno zeta (reflectors). How is the long term performance of the LEDs. Is there any heat dissipation issue? I'm concerned beacuse one youtuber raised the point of Ultinon leds having passive cooling via heat sink only and no fan (Unlike the xtreme ultinons). Also since the heat sink in placed over rubber cover, does it interfere in heat dissipation. And at last, you have mentioned that you purchased them for 9.3k which makes me wonder whether you have Ultinon ot Xtreme Ultinon.

Re: LED Headlamp Bulbs are here! The end of HID?

Just go for it. It's the best LED available. Difference with other brands are 'day and night'. Mine are from the US and I'm using for close to two years, going great

Thanks Sebring. By the way, in which car are you using them. Also, can you comment on the differences between Ultinon and Xtreme Ultinon. From what I have heard, Xtreme has a cooling fan whereas Ultinon has only heat sink apart from the higher output ofcourse.

Philips Xtreme Ultinion are decent LED's and definitely not the best. For their price they are good.

From my understanding from reading various articles and watching youtube videos, fan based cooling extracts the heat better and allows manufacturers to push for higher output.

I would recommend the below from Aliexpress if you wish to try.

I can see that the LEDs you have mentioned are for fog lights. I am searching for LED replacement for my headlights and for now, I prefer to stay away from Chinese imports.

Re: LED Headlamp Bulbs are here! The end of HID?

They're on my Nexon. Since you're in Bangalore you can probably see the output yourself. I can't see very well in the dark, so they're a boon. What happens is, the market is flooded with fakes (you must have seen that probably) but these are the real deal. I got three sets, high, low and fogs.

I am not saying they are bad. They will definitely be an improvement over stock halogen. I am comparing the throughput between a fan driven cooling and a passive heat sink cooling.

Hi,

The exact model I bought is "Philips 12953 BW X2 X-Treme Ultinon H4 LED Car Lamp (12V,23W,Set of 2)". It's there on Amazon currently but marked as not available. They cost me around 9.3K when I bought them. These don't have a fan.

I didn't face any heat dissipation issue as such. The LEDs run pretty cool (much cooler than halogens) and I used them for more than 2 years without any issues. They are built very well.

Right now I've removed them and I'm running 100/90 Philips rally bulbs with a relay. Honestly I find the LEDs are very good for low beam, but for high beam they aren't really good enough for the highway. I find 100/90s performing better than the LEDs. I think the reflector design also matters (in terms of focus) so it may perform differently in different vehicles. Also, the yellow light from halogen lamps gives much better visibility than white on highway drives and rain/bad weather.

I strongly recommend that before spending on these LEDs, see if you can try them out on your vehicle (maybe from an accessories) shop.
