I stay in my own house, so any modification is not an issue. The windows to the balcony are the sliding ones, which have three channels. Two channels for glass and one for mosquito net. There is a gap between the channels and I am guessing that is where this dust enters.

Also, it is impossible to keep the windows closed all the times, and hence was looking at the purifier. Any brands which are recommended?

In USA either Holmes or Honeywell are the best. I have used a Holmes one and it was great.
In India, I guess this is among the best you can buy
http://www.shopclues.com/oster-biona...g&gclsrc=aw.ds

Make sure whatever you buy has HEPA filter + an ionizer and is made for atleast 200sqft room capacity.

Also there should be a service setup because HEPA filter will need replacement every 6-7 months(do not believe 3 years, thats for dust free west). ITs an added cost 2000-2500/filter

that said, if you can, go somewhere else

Re: Plasmacluster ion generator-Is it worth it?

A little old thread but came across recently (I am a Delhitie ) so thought of posting. Sharp's Air purifiers with this technology are very common. Heard a lot of negatives about ionizers (ones that release only -ve ions) but Sharp's plasma cluster releases -ve and +ve which they claim attaches to bacterias and viruses and kills them but at the same time, won't this be harmful to the body cells when inhaled?

Anyone here using Sharp Air purifier who can suggest.

I've been using a Sharp air purifier since last year and i find it very effective. Air inside the room definitely feels cleaner than the rest of the house, and no perceptible haze or smoke can be felt. It is keeping my asthma is check. I have to periodically vacuum clean the HEPA and charcoal filters. HEPA will be replaced soon.

Thanks Shreyans! Any other air purifier you've used or just this one? Given the circumstances in Delhi I don't think the filter in my air purifier will last for a year. I'm a Lil confused between sharp and Atlanta.

I also have a Panasonic. I am not satisfied with it. Sharp is much better. We have a Livepure air purifier in the family as well. That is perhaps the most effective one, but procuring new filters is a pain. Their support is terrible.

I heard that procuring filters for Sharp is also difficult. You don't find it on any of the e-retailers, neither on Sharp's own website. Where do u get it from?

Sharp does not officially sell via e-tailers. Thats why you wont get any filters online. You have to procure the product as well as spares through their own network of dealers/distributors.

You wont get warranty if you buy from Flipkart and like or from any unauthorized channel. This was clearly mentioned on their website when I had bought my purifier.

I think that changed now as Amazon is listed on their website as official distributor but only for the product, not filters. And just to know, which model are you using and how much do their filters cost since that information is not on their website either.

Model is FP-F40E-W. This is a medium sized model, good for about 350 or so sq ft. Not sure about the exact cost of the filter, but I expect it to be anything between 3-5k.

Hi Shreyans. Need your feedback regarding Sharp Plasmacluster air purifier. I am planning to buy FP-F40E-W (for my mother) and IG-GC2 (for my car). The marketing executive from Sharp gave a demo today and I was impressed with both the above mentioned products. Wanted to take your opinion before placing the order.

The FP F40EW is good. I had the filter replaced, a new set cost 5000 rupees. For the car however, I recently bought a Honeywell portable car air purifier from Flipkart for 6k. Very well built, and fairly effective. I've been using it in my Hexa, and it is able to cope up with a cabin that big. Whatever you ultimately decide to go for, make sure it is HEPA based and not ionizer based.
