Re: My first luxury car purchase | Budget up to 70-lakhs Here's the final update on the thread:
Having done TD of the 340i (new and second hand) I had made up my mind that I just need to plonk that cash and buy it off as soon as i get a chance. negotiated with 2 owners but the price just didn't fit my budget. One of those weekend, the Mercedes guys called up and said they can arrange a TD if I was available (i had called them a few months ago but they never came back on time) and the SA came with a E220D in white. The face lifted model and the moment I sat inside the car - I was BLOWN away by the luxury. The 5-series had felt like a looker from the outside, but from the inside it was just a regular premium car. The E class was on a different level when it came to the interiors. You know when you enter a few houses (of rich friends) that every nook and corner feels done up to perfection. This felt like that. And the SA was quick to roll up the sunscreen shade and the airiness of the cabin increased 100X. And i have not even stepped into the rear seat. The car was driven around for a good 30 mins in my locality and we even went to the Hosur road to stretch it legs a little. There was no scraping of the underbelly on any of the pot holes where the beemer did. The car pulled smoothly but never felt like it was in a hurry. In the comfort mode all along it felt like the perfect car for the stop go nature of this city's traffic and always ready for the occasional burst when Hosur road or some stretch near agara lake comes up.
And the rear seat. OMG. I knew that i will never be able to enjoy that rear seat for myself but the fact that such opulences exists for the parents and the missus got me all excited. The soft pillow at the top makes the whole seating like a business class. Recently we had flown business class for the first time and the rear seat makes it feel like business class travel every day for the ones most precious to me.
I finally decided to use the head over the heart - the 3 litre engine will have to wait for a few years. For now, i will go with a E class which will give me every day joy inside and outside. And with that the E220 was bought a few days ago. The buying experience wasn't anything spectacular. TD done on Sunday, decision made on Tuesday, a Check up done with mercedes service centre on friday and the car bought home on Saturday. There are some exciting moments in that purchase story but overall it was smooth and non-spectacular (the way they should be )
The car gets driven around on weekends mostly and I have become adept enough to take a 5 metre car into parking lots with jigsaw pillar placements. My average speed has definitely reduced by a couple of KMPH as i let quite a few of bikes etc by but this car suits the bangalore driving style - stop/start and occassional spurts to 100kph. Already accumulating money for the next car - which WILL be a 3 litre monster. |
