What does that mean ? I presume the new face lifted Fortuner has this feature by default in the 4X4 model.

Re: Fleet Admiral Togo Heihachiro - Toyota Fortuner. Life Sails On...

The VSC saga continues...the sales girl now says that VSC is present in the classic model that they have !. I was surprised and asked her does she know what VSC is. She said that her senior told her that there is a button by name VSC on the vehicle. I then explained VSC to her (whatever i learnt from here) and told her that its not something which i can switch on during an emergency and it is not a feature which will wait for me to push the button after which it will kick in. She went into more confusion (she has been confused for past 2 days) and said she will get back to me tomorrow after another round of discussion.

This said model was made in December. Does anyone here knows whether Toyota was offering VSC on the previous model at the fag end of its cycle ?

Yes, a button for VSC is there BUT not in the Classic. If it is there (by some remarkable stroke of luck) grab it with both hands. But I think she is confusing the rear sonar on/off button with that of the VSC, as both are present in the same location and have the same shape and size, and the sonar on/off button has been 'removed' in the faceliift Fortuner, as they have added the camera (but I still believe an added audible warning would have been more adept).

Best of Luck and don't get too confused. Go the facelift if you want the VSC or else stick with the Classic and save some moolah.

yaji,
No, as I remember it.

Asked about this with the local dealer in Nov/Dec as soon as the first reports of the facelifted Fortuner started filtering in, as to whether the then pre-facelifted Fortuners were coming with better/upgraded brakes and/or ESP and was informed - negative.
So let's see what magic would be conjured by the salesgirl when she gets back to you !
But if at all, by some stroke of luck, this were indeed to be true then...boy...you have struck a goldmine really !

Re: Fleet Admiral Togo Heihachiro - Toyota Fortuner. Life Sails On...

The dealer sales called again and told that there is no VSC on the classic fortuner. The Saga finally ends .

Almost decided on the new fortuner unless i get very repulsed by the looks of the new Fortuner when i go to the showroom to finalize the deal. My earlier topple in the Scoprio is what is pushing me to go for VSC gizmo because that helpless feeling while being in a topple gives me nightmares even today and i would plonk down the money even if there is a faint chance of some gizmo avoiding it from happening again.

Herr Guderian, Salut!

The Black T-Fort did a Mumbai-Nanded-Mumbai recently.

It was just my uncle and aunt who decided spur of the moment, tanked up and left for a trip to Hazur Sahib.

They only reported the drive to be extremely comfy and cushy, with no fatigue at all.

Plans are being made for a trip to Rajasthan. What would be available options for a MapmyIndia device for the T-Fort?

So finally Yaji ! No option but to move ahead eh ?
We are still under great suspense - Will he ? Won't he ?
Will there be another round of Congressional Committee debates ? Heh heh.
All the best and do keep us posted of your dealership experiences and other details.

Meanwhile have been spotting a large number of facelifted new Fortuners on the roads here in the past week and with new colours. Saw Blue Metallic, Silky Gold Mica Metallic - which is beige looking and the earlier standard issue colours. The Blue M looks nice

But then even the new facelifted Fortuner looks like an angel compared to this Fortuner, which received the DC treatment -

Not sure why but I have yet to get over my retching & barfing.
And why, some people may like it too.

Salaams O LancerMan !
Glad to note the progress of the Black Fortuner.

As far as the MMI device is concerned, if you see a few posts earlier - since Sept last, I have been using MMI VX140s. I have found this device greatly handy and has been very convenient and easy to use. Maps (V6.1) rather accurate too. Recently MMI has released V7.0 of the maps.
Got it after some hefty discounts as I went through a friend to their sales team directly and not to a dealer. Send me a PM with your contact number - shall pass on all the details.
You can have a dekko of the snaps of the VX140s posted here a few posts ago.

I love the grey shade in the new fortuner but my present scorpio is Coral blue (looks almost black unless there is some good amount of sun shine falling on it) and its a real pain to maintain it considering the amount of dust in the atmosphere which seems to love to stick to the surface of my vehicle !....surprisingly the dealer also has a grey coloured Fortuner ready for delivery if i book it now and opt for that colour but my present experience is holding me back...I' am trying to not buy a vehicle with a dark shaded paint....white is ruled out due to the class of people a White Fortuner is being associated with..you know what i mean...

May go for Silky Gold Mica Metalic as it looks easier to maintain and looks a bit different too.

Sure. They have messed up the front. The shape/width of the front grill looks like a hammerhead shark. And why such a headlight?

Hail general!
looks ugly! Poor DC!Result of too much of drinking i guess!

General saab, the new fortuner in my opinion is not looking that bad either! But well, a classic is always a classic! Is it not possible that some dealers still have a few from the old stock left over? can those pieces not be bought at a discounted price?well if one really wants to have that classic T-Fort only!

That DC Fortuner seems to be the result of mating between a Fortuner and an Evo.

Re: Fleet Admiral Togo Heihachiro - Toyota Fortuner. Life Sails On...

Took a test drive today and here are my observations (i can only compare with my present ride which is a scoprio):

Pro's:
1. Acceleration is pretty smooth.
2. Vehicle seemed much stable at high speeds (went upto 160 Kms on one stretch). Did not feel the floating effect that i feel on my present ride which gives me scares.
2. No jerking in first gear.
3. Last row ride quality seemed much better than my present one.

Cons:
1. Gear shifter seemed hard (same as my present ride). I was told that the vehicle is new and hence that feel. It will get smoother over 2 services.
2. Gear lever seemed longer but that may be in comparison so may be not a negative afterall.
3. Ride was kind of bumpy in pot holes even when compared to my present ride. I was told that Scorpio has a softer suspension as compared to a Fortuner (supposed to get used to this over a period of time ). The reason for harder suspension as per the guy was that it prevents rollover and offers better ride quality at higher speeds...

Any opinions about the justification for the con's is appreciated

So yaji...when is the booking date ?!!
OK now the Fortuner ride is rather stiff - not for any other reason but the fact that the suspension is designed thataway, I guess.
Hey c'mon - anti roll over ? Better ride quality at higher speeds ? Inventive cover ups ! Haven't heard these before...
Gear shift in Admiral is silky smooth (No Dirty Picture here !) and so the new one will surely settle down - but Admiral never had an issue on this count even when new.

Hi AK, Yes the new facelifted shape one will get used to and ain't too bad either.
Just that when compared to the Classic it suffers a little. But I guess it makes up by all the sweet gizmoa in it esp the VSC. Not sure how many Classics would be around...but going by the stories of the yard - a few pics of which I had displayed here in the early part of the thread - there should be plenty of them around !
