I think it is a carry over from my horse riding days when communicating with your steed was always encouraged and gently petting the horse after a jump or a particularly hard ride was a way of expressing thanks for a job well done.
I still pet the dashboard or the out side of the drivers door much the same way i used to pet the horses head or shoulder.
Call me barmy but i see it as a living breathing thing rather than an inanimate object..and the same goes for all my Cars. |
Hi Manuuj, A past equestrian eh ? It shows, dear chap, the way you give 'The Fortuner' it's Sunday hide rub down. Or called 'Malish' by the faujis.
And wonderful to read such lines which shows great respect and love for one's ride. I too have a confession...a confession of pride perhaps... Quote:

But i realise that i am being ungrateful here. The least i should do is to thank it considering that after Office, Home the next most time is spent driving it. And fingers crossed it has not given me any trouble in the couple of years of ownership.
Also after going through the Togo channel i am feeling a kind of guilt, considering the amount of loving care that you guys have been showering on the vehicles. Not that i am abusing my baby but i have not been giving the detailed attention. But slowly i am getting there. |
Hey Amit ! Don't feel too guilty about it. The first step towards change is the dawn of realisation. And you are there.
Next step is to slowly start looking at your ride as an extension of your soul.
The next step ( now pause here, close your eyes, deep breaths, block out every other mental stimulus/li, relax your muscles...) is to pick up the phone, call Manuuj and ask as to what is to be spoken to the ride !
And my confession ? I sure do communicate with Admiral ! At a very mental level and at times verbal. At the begining of a long or tough ride it could be at the mental or verbal level with a pat on the 'A' pillar with a 'Let's do it/go/roll my friend/sir/Admiral' or at the end of a particularly difficult trip a mental salute or a pat on the 'C'/last pillar as I move away. When I believe that I have, due to my own stupidity, pushed the Admiral to a rough spot like speeding over/into a pot hole or other such scraps - an involuntary, often verbal, shout of 'Owwww' or 'Ouch' with a 'Sorry' and a pat on the dash/'A' pillar -is issued forth ! By doing this I get a little more careful. This is my own way of apologising to the ol' chap as well as a rebuke to self to be more careful.
Odd ? Bonkers ? Touched up there ? Ready for the shrink's couch ? May be. But then if you look closely every vehicle has a soul and is a breathing creature !
And the last time I had visited a shrink, he lay on the couch, and pronounced me a Vehicochondriac and asked me as to how he could clean his vehicle's air filter by himself and mentioned his baby had a nasty breathing and a wheezing problem ! |
