re: Skoda Octavia vRS - 12/2004 - Diamond Grey - Update @ 46500 kms

Went today for throttle body cleaning : Wheelforce Center at Rajouri garden.

Symptoms : EPC Light randomly or some times rpm used to fluctuate between 700 & 1200.
Time taken : 2 hrs.
Jobs done : Complete cleaning of throttle body manually and in a throttle body cleaning machine. Adaptation via their ESItronic scanner and general checkup of car.
Charges : Rs 1200/-

Car is now more responsive and smooth.

One more thing i came to know from them is when the rpm fluctuate there will also a probability of hardening of brake paddle too and will become non-responsive. This will occur mostly when the car is in idle or in bumper to bumper traffic.

re: Skoda Octavia vRS - 12/2004 - Diamond Grey - Update @ 46500 kms

Update @ 44000 kms

No major problem since August 11. The dicky struts has failed last month. Some times it falls randomly when opened. I had enquired at Metro spares (Malviya nagar) was out of stock and told me try after 1st week of Jan. Enquired today , in stock and got it really cheap for just Rs 900/- (pair).

Rajnath Auto was quoting Rs 1250 per strut. This is manufactured by pune based company. Will post photo soon.

Installation is pretty easy. Remove the U clip from the top end of strut using a screwdriver and little pull will disengage the strut the nut. You can fix the new one in the same way.

I got it fixed from the mechanic available near the shop. Time taken 10 min. Paid him Rs 100/-.

Other jobs due are - Oil change & front brake pads change. May last another 1000 kms but wont take chance.

IFTEX System G is a fuel additive to keep injectors and manifold clean. Use it once every 1000 kms.
Here is the link : IFTEX OIL & CHEMICALS LTD.

@v&v: Nice to read this thread. One thing is clear is you don't just own a Skoda you need 'deserve' it. I think at the end of it this ownership you can start an independent garage for 'troubleshooting' Skoda vRS. I appreciate all the effort going into the upkeep and still things keep cropping up now and then despite the low running. Your Skoda makes one helluva weekend paramour, lol. I appreciate all the love and car you have lavished on her.

Thank DD. Well said! Managing this beast is a pain but worth every penny. One drive and it make you forget all issues.

Every car has its issues but for RS being a Skoda being amplified much more than others. All it needs is timely checkups to keep it in top slot.

The vRS guru has already suggested quite a few things that you need to look out for.

2 cents from my end based on my experience with Skodas and service centers:

There is really no way of checking the condition of the timing belt. In fact, this is exactly what the SA at the service center had tld me when he was suggesting the timing belt change for my Octavia at 75K and I asked him to check the condition. His response was "Sir, it is recommended to be changed at 75K and there is really no way of telling how much more would it last. But, if you want we can change it at the next service". My Octavia has now clocked about 78K and I plan to address timing belt replacement at 85K. Bottomline, if you think you want to change, go ahead. Also factor in the fact that the car is close to 6 years old and the timing belt may have become brittle due to not being in use much.

I have been using System G once in every 2-3 gas refills since last 15-16 months and I have really not faced any issued. Started using it after my engine mis-fired in last June and it was attributed to bad fuel.

In addition, also please check the secondary radiator fan. They are weak links as well. You may not face any issues right now if the secondary fan is not working and my not even realise that its not working. But come summer, if the fan is not working, then the car would tend to heat up.

Cheers,
Wow Ardy,

I blwe my Timing Belt. Car just came back with a bill of INR 1,60 lacs includes a new battery as the car was in garage for 60 days (No spares in India) and mileage has dropped to 4KMPL.

@V&V So you went to Nitanshu's work shop to get the brake pads job done! He has amazing knowledge of Skoda cars and the RS in particular.

@Srinath They might not have set the tappets rightly or is there one? Also let the engine bed in properly as it might produce heat due to new metal friction. Have you experienced any loss of pickup?? Also i would suggest the oil change in next 1000-1500 kms.

YUP for these quick changes he is good. Rates are bit high as Metro Spares at Malviya nagar had quoted 1800/- for pagid. has good knowledge of RS.
How about your RS, is it still there ?
