Battery Update

Finally it happened. Today morning I cranked the car and it just wont start. I realized the battery has conked off.

I called the SA and he said ACDelco batteries are dry batteries and does not need any maintenance and are use and throw batteries. When enquired what is cost of new battery he said its around Rs.11,000 and insisted since its almost 22 months over and warranty for battery is only for 12 months, I need to cough up

I mentioned to him that I know the problems of ACDelco batteries requested him to replace FREE of cost or i will have to write to GM and escalate the matter.

He asked me to hold on and said will call me up before evening to let me know if it can be replaced free of cost.

Phew!!!

I know that Cruzes came with the inherent problem of batteries, but if your battery has conked off after its warranty period why would they replace it for free?

I don't know from when exactly but recent Cruzes come with Exide battery and not the faulty AC Delco ones. Mine being Feb 2012 model came with Exide battery.

You can read here :-

Many members had problems with ACDelco batteries and their battery was replaced free of cost even after 18 months of usage whereas the battery warranty is only for 12 months.

No harm in trying for a free replacement:)

I just got a call from Sampath Reddy who informed me that he called chennai to check if i was eligible for this free battery change and he confirmed back to me that I am eligibleclap:

They could have easily denied me this "FREE BATTERY CHANGE" and i could have not done anything as car is now 22 months old. I was even mentally prepared to shell out Rs 11,000

He is sending a driver tomorrow at 10:00am to jump-start the car and take it back to A.S.S and replace it with brand-new EXIDE battery and return the car back home at absolutely no-cost.

Chevy KUN Rocks, Yet Again !!!:thumbs up

Good for you, Avi!

Happy to hear that Kun is taking care of its customers well clap:

Phew, what a relief! I bet you're going to throw us a party in jubilation :)

So does the credit go to Kun or to GM? I was in a similar confusion when my Fiesta's power steering hose pipe was changed for free (costs around 5 K), though the car was beyond warranty.

It maybe a bit OT but why did the dealer call Chennai to check for battery replacement when GM plant and HQ is in Gujrat? AC Delco will not really have a say in this as they are vendors to GM.

Good question. I am assuming he called KUN HQ which if i am not wrong is in chennai.

Credit goes to both with majority being with KUN. It would be easy for a dealer to deny free replacement and there was nothing I could have done but, cough up the dough

Did you manage to get an answer to the extended warranty query? Does GM India at all offer extended warranty in India?

I had heard casually (long time back) that GM itself does not offer but does it through a company called Corporate Warranties India Private Limited, which essentially manages the scheme.

Coverage is same as the original warranty with additional 2 years + 40,000 km. Cost is around 20k to be made within 1 year of vehicle sale. However, could not find any official information on this.

Is it worth it for the Cruze?

I thought I answered this query in some post back. If not, my bad

Cruze comes with 100,00kms/3 Years warranty. There is an option to buy an extended warranty and that can be bought till purchased vehicle is < 1 year old

As I didnt qualify, I didnt bother to ask the cost of same. But, IMO anyone buying a Cruze should just buy the extended warranty which I think is for 2 years additionally for about 10K or less. It should offer a lot of peace of mind.

P.S: Btw, my car's battery was replaced with a brand new EXIDE free of cost and it was a door-step-service with me not even at home. No charges for anything.:)

When I bought my Cruze in 2010, I did inquire about an extended warranty if any that can be purchased. I was told there is no such thing by the dealer (Sundaram Motors Chennai).

PS: My ACDelco battery had a temporary paralysis yesterday and was jump started with a spare battery from a free Exide mobile service. It is likely to be replaced on Monday with an Exide DIN80 type battery.

I am happy that WA has completed its 2nd birthday a couple of days ago and our journey together till date has been flawless with passion and performance being the centerpiece of our relationship. There is nothing new to report as its almost boring that everything works like a charm ( touchwood) and offlate my usage of WA has reduced considerably as either i am working from home or enjoying my Maroon Marauder which gives me a similar kind of kick on 2-wheeels.

Will post a detailed feedback once I complete my 30K service which should happen by end of this month.

I recently renewed my insurance and had a tough time getting a good quote as insurance rates have gone up like crazy due to increase in taxes et.all and noone is willing to budge and renewed it after it got expired as i was travelling.

And, what finally happened is something hard to fathom as I paid an insurance premium equivalent to what i paid last year

My insurance renewal details below

IDV : 9,76,000 ( 10% depreciation from last year's 10.85 Lakhs)
Insurance Premium : Rs.15,000

WA's odo reading as on Aug 1st, 2012

Congratulations !!
How are the tyres and brake pads at 29k kms ?
Power windows and other electronic stuff are working as they should?
Any 2 yr anniversary gifts for WA such as LED tail lamps?
I am little concerned that the IDV now stands at 9.75L. What was the on road price ?

Thanks

Tyres still have a lot of tread and depth in them. I expect them to last another 20K kms for sure

Unlike other Cruze owners, My brake pads are still going strong and i think it will last another 5K kms easily unless the A.S.S tells me otherwise at 30K kms service.

Each and every electronic is working as it should and best part is not a single squeak or rattle in the car till date.

Been quite busy with work and travelling so not driving WA much. Besides, I am enjoying my Maroon Marauder more these days:). My next upgrade will be a RD box but, not anytime soon.

Nothing to be concerned about IDV as its always on ex-showroom and when I bought WA, ex-showroom price was 11.75 Lakhs I think

I completely enjoyed my experience with Cruze till date:thumbs up

Iam happy to report from my recent trip to US and Canada that Cruze is a familiar car on their roads.

I spotted so many of them that after sometime i lost interest in the Cruze:D

Next time will flag down a Cruze owner and ask what they like about it (considering they are petrol versions)

Here is one that I spotted in Toronto last month

This one was spotted in Boston in April-2012
