No UV. I will be leaving my car for service on the coming Monday. Will get it done at that time. My ODO is reading 13,500 Kms as of now. Will touch 14K by the week-end.

Nowwhat? - ICE is getting more and more complicated day by day. I am puzzled by this latest findings:
  1. Some of the GPS adopters use separate speakers for audio output!!!
  2. With external GPS adopters, having only RGB connection - will the GPS operation be seamless????? - That is, if music is playing, will it mute during GPS voice guidance??
I will have to ensure this before settling for Pioneer. I will call you tomorrow.

Great work Chetan, your thread has helped me a lot. Spent the last 4 hours reading the 50 pages.

I've gone a full circle and zeroed in on Witson unit for my Vento P HL too!! But I have a few concerns:

1) I'm a total noob when it comes to ICE et al. I will PM Ankit to get the number of the guy who installed his unit, antenna+Camera. Though he hasn't logged in since a week so I'm not counting on a prompt reply which is what concerns me. Will some chap at a local accessories shop be able to install it? I understand that HU is plug and play but the GPS antenna and Camera are the tricky parts? Will it help if I don't go for the Camera?

2) My second concern is the Maps. How do I install MapMyIndia on it? I read that Ankit PM'ed Chetan some software installation details, can you please share?

3) The model being discussed here is W2-D723V but that is not reccomended for polo by the manufacturer {confused} while this one (which is cheaper, looks good and better interface} is recommended: VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT B5----ZHUHAI WITSON INDUSTRIAL CO.,LTD.---Professional Car DVD Player Manufacturer

4) Once I decide on the model the next issue is deciding where to buy from. One could buy it directly from a manufacturer or go to brokering sites like Alibaba and use them to buy directly from the manufacturer. The second option costs a few buck more but is safer because of the escrow system where you get a refund if you don't get the item. Like these listings: http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/22...ayer_With.html
http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/35...VD_Player.html

I'd be really glad if someone could help me out.

You dont really need to worry so much bro!. Yes the HU installation is just plug-n-play as soon as you are able to pull out that center panel. Trust me any good audio shop would be able to do it for you. Same for the GPS antenna and camera which is basically the wiring part. Just go to any good audio shop and they will do it for you. You can try Driven in New Delhi (search the posts and you will get all the details). Meanwhile i will PM you the VW guys nos.

2) My second concern is the Maps. How do I install MapMyIndia on it? I read that Ankit PM'ed Chetan some software installation details, can you please share?
PMEd you the details.Again its not that difficult!

Please please keep one thing in mind, this is still a chinese product and no one can vouch for their reliability. The D723V has been by far their most reliable product. It has been constantly updated in the past 3 years.
The model that you have shown, is an older model, you can just make out from the shape of the HU but more importantly i have no idea if it will fit in the Polo. Dont go by what the Witson people or the website says. I literally found the pics of the backside of the HU and matched it with my connectors in order to be 100% sure. I would avoid buying any other chinese model except the D-723V. I mean you can see it fitting properly and working in my posts what more proof would you need!

Like these listings: WITSON Special Car DVD Player With GPS For Volkswagen CAR DVD products, buy WITSON Special Car DVD Player With GPS For Volkswagen CAR DVD products from alibaba.com
WITSON Volkswagen Passat B5/Bora/Polo/Gulf 4 Double Din Volkswagen Car DVD Player products, buy WITSON Volkswagen Passat B5/Bora/Polo/Gulf 4 Double Din Volkswagen Car DVD Player products from alibaba.com

I avoided Alibaba as i have heard its kind of like ebay and i havent had good experiences with ebay so i preferred direct contact with the Witson guys. I was in constant touch with them via email, (mailed them about 30 times!! and they replied every single one of them). I found them trust-worthy but again i can't really take any guarantee on them. Thats why i paid them via paypal!
I'd be really glad if someone could help me out.

Just to give you more information about the HU that you have mentioned in your post.
Below is the picture of the backside of the HU connectors. I can surely say that it is incompatible with the polo/vento connectors. you may be able to cut the wires and connect it manually (risk voiding your warranty). Also the HU has a perfect square shape whereas the HU slot of polo doesn't

I see, thanks for all the help. I have heard of Driven but you had mentioned some "special coupler" which I thought only the VW guys had and didn't want to risk the warranty (I'm broke and as I understand maintaining a German car costs an arm and a leg )

Though I'm confident enough now and will order the Witson unit in the next few days

Aai - Thanks!!

I've gone a full circle and zeroed in on Witson unit for my Vento P HL too!! But I have a few concerns:

That is sure VFM. You did the right thing I suppose. I am also thinking about it. Let us see. I am getting crazy these days, thinking about ICE's.

Indian version of the New Polo is a bit odd when it comes to the HU. Fascia is similar to Golf MK5 / New Polo MK5. But when it comes to the wiring harness, it is similar to UK Polo Model 2002-2005.

For this reason you get misled on the web. This model what you mentioned, will be 100% compatible with 2002-5 UK Polo. But with our Polo, it is electrically compatible - But the shape of the Fascia is not.

4) Once I decide on the model the next issue is deciding where to buy from. One could buy it directly from a manufacturer or go to brokering sites like Alibaba and use them to buy directly from the manufacturer.

I am with Ankit 100%. Manufacturer is a better bet - any day.

I'd be really glad if someone could help me out.
I think Witson is getting more and more popular on this forum. Full credit to Ankit for that! Excellent decision.

Personally, I like the unit but for the silver skin. I have a few questions for Ankit though:
  1. Does the unit have phone book memory? If so, how many contacts can be stored?
  2. Can the display be switched off if not required? (If you are listening to only music)
  3. Does it have a Virtual 6CD memory?
  4. Is external MIC provided?
  5. How does the silver display integrate with the Polo interiors?
  6. Have you seen any glitches in operation - till now?
  7. How does the touch screen feel? Slow/medium/fast in response to touch.

NO it doesn't have any, it just reads the contacts off the phone linked to it. You can't store it on the HU.
  2. Can the display be switched off if not required? (If you are listening to only music)
    Yes ofcourse!
  3. Does it have a Virtual 6CD memory?
Nope, but has ample playing sources; dvd, bluetooth,USB,AUX,sdcard
  4. Is external MIC provided?
Yes its provided, but i didn't need to use it as the integrated one is fantastic
  5. How does the silver display integrate with the Polo interiors?
I think you got confused, only the bluetooth screen with the numeric keypad has a silver background. Rest all (including the main menu) has a red background (with a silver border) which actually complements the red interior lighting perfectly!
Have a look at this pic

  6. Have you seen any glitches in operation - till now?
not really, sometimes it does takes a while to read the ipod but it works everytime. Till now i would say there have been no bugs/glitches
  7. How does the touch screen feel? Slow/medium/fast in response to touch.
Its not a capacitive touchscreen a la iphone so you are not going to get that swift screen navigation but its one of the best to use even if its a resistive touch screen and its quite accurate. Moreover, that swift scrolling down the list kind of interface is not really required as you generally use the big knob on the right to go through the song list.

Pioneer AVH 3250BT

At last I decided on Pioneer AVH 3250BT for my Polo!

Details: 2-DIN Audio/Visual unit with Bluetooth - AVH-P3250BT :: Pioneer Australia

I purchased Fascia adopter, Antenna with amplifier & Blaupunkt connector from Dynamic Sounds - UK. Details are as below:

Connects 2 CT23VW01 - Volkswagen Passat, Passat CC, Scirocco, Touran Double Din

Autoleads PC5-137 - Volkswagen Bora, Caddy, Jetta, Eos DIN Aerial Adaptor

Autoleads PC2-69-4 - Volkswagen Beetle, Bora, Golf, Lupo, Wiring Harness Adaptor

These were basically from Auto-Leads & Connect2. I will be purchasing Bx200 GPS Navigation device with Maps from MapMyIndia in the next week. It integrates both Audio & Video with the head unit including touch screen & car speakers.

This system has all the necessary features. Very user friendly and audio quality is simply superb! My upgraded Co-Axial speakers are put to full use! Telephone conversation is spot-on. Sound clarity is excellent. Almost all file types can be played.

It has a normal size USB, Aux-in & a SD card provision in the front. Display is TFT 5.8" anti-glare touch screen with capacitive touch - Very easy to operate. Color of the Key-illumination and the screen back-ground can be changed.

This has costed me:

HU --------------- Rs.20,500 without B&W
Accessories ------ Rs.4,800 Approximately
GPS -------------- Rs.21,000 with B&W
Installation ------- Rs.650

Cost of accessories is a bit high since I imported & had to pay for the fright charges. Also I have got an antenna with amplifier, so the AM/FM reception has improved. Nun of the car cables are cut or even touched.

Caska HU would have costed me almost same. But the audio quality of the Caska is very average. Stock HU was better in that regard. Also, the local Caska representative did not do anything to boost my confidence on Caska.

Some pictures taken with poor lighting: Please do not mind!

Thanks! Was keeping my fingures crossed!!

Yes. I think there are plenty available for us to grab!

Tomorrow I am leaving my car for service. ODO reads around 13,500 Kms. I will be in Downtown by 10.30 Am. Call me if you are around & want to check out at National Bazaar.

I will up-date this thread once the first service is done! Hope I am the first fella on the forum!!

Very impressive fit, specially the fascia. Also well known brand assures peace of mind. At some point of time I will also change over to one of Pioneer HU. Where did you get the installation done?

I had met this guy named Aftab, when I was interacting with the Caska dealer in Bangalore. Young chap with a lot of patience, knowledge & experience. I can definitely recommend him for any car-accessory fitment. His mobile number is : Aftab-9663645692.

Congrats, it looks great. Did you get this from the Caska dealer? How much more is the one with the 6.5" touch screen?

Also you will really enjoy your car after the first service, it will become much more smooth, and silent.

Thanks Akshay. I got it from the Grey Market since it was not available through the official channel in India. Price is without B & W. Cost was not the factor - Non of the Pioneer systems available officially in India has built-in BT. Also, this model had all the required ports in front of the system which makes it easy to use. I liked the display & its features & so, tilted my decision in its favor. The other system I liked was JVC-AVX836. This was available at Rs.29,500/- including B&W.

Thanks Ankit. B & W would have increased it by another 5K.
