My PAL Peugeot 309 - A French Connection

It was always my dream to acquire a French car,as i have lived in France and can speak french fluently.Hence the French Connection was going to some where hook me up.
Last Wednesay I received a PM from BBlost (Imran) than an immaculate PAL Peugeot 309 was available in his office classifieds.I wasted no time and quickly inspected the car.It was an immaculately maintianed car, just done 43000 kms,on original paint. The deal was struck in a matter of 24 hrs and the car came to my possession on saturday.
Then began my restoration.A quick check under the bonner revealed a few glitches like water hose pipe damaged, coolant tank leaking etc. These were quickly fixed by my mechanic and a clutch pressure plate was also replaced. The 309 was mechanically fit.Now i had to attend to cosmetics.
I reached the painting booth and explained the minimal touch ups and painting of all plastic parts.
Voila this evening the 309 was ready gleaming under the sun.
This is the most immaculate car I have come across.Even the original wheel caps were intact.
Now I will let the pics do the talking.....

Congratulations

Mazda Motors are the best when it comes to car detailing.

Give them any car, they get it out, closest to the Stock condition.

Aw man! Compared to the white mass of mess we have in the garage waiting restoration, this is out-of-showroom!!! Congrats on the precious buy - the petrol engine is a gem, and the car handles the power oh-so-beautifully!

Really nice car there!

Hi Hillram,

You are really lucky to get the PUG is such a good shape. Its a real gem.

I had a 97 GLD with the TUD5 engine, few years back.

It had amazing ride quality with no compromise on handling.
The petrol would be even better handling.

These cars are built to last.

A few Grudges I had:
  • Horn Button Location:
  • The dashboard cracked(at the top) poor plastics from PAL i guess.
  • HVAC controls wouldn't work.
  • No power steering meant real hard work. Petrol should be better.
  • Ultra Reliable but as van be expected parts isn't easy to come by.
The car has aged well, even compared to contemporary cars like the old esteem/ford escort.
The pic of a 1990 example.

Hi Ram,

Congrats, that is a great looking car. Seems to have been kept well with the original wheel caps and the Total sticker too. The 309 was a great car, small on the outside and big inside. Unfortunately PAL & Peugeot could not get their act together else with that buttery smooth engine and superlative suspension that car should have been a blockbuster.

Cheers,

Thanks Kishore and Raveendra for your wishes.
Indeed cracked dashboard was very common as it was made for cold climate, therefore they couldnt survive indian heat.
Even i find the horn a little bizzare, but sounded innovative.

Congrats, this is one well maintained Peugeot
I still remember, when this car was launched,as a Kid i used to oogle at it.
At one instance,my dad had requested an owner of a 309 to let me sit in it for a short drive.
too bad i cant recall like as to how the interiors were.
Can we have pics of the interiors and engine specs?
