As they say, if you don't look back at the car after parking her, you got the wrong car!

Hi Raj, if you have no issues with travelling to Navi Mumbai, please visit Vroom Pointe for services on your car. It's a Fiat Authorised service centre and the SA Devendra there is thoroughly well versed with Fiats. I (or rather my car) has known him since 2010 days when we had the Grande Punto. And even now my Abarth goes to him only. He's a total no nonsense guy and very frank. Never quoted anything if it was not needed. He also managed to procure parts for another BHPian from Bangalore, which the local FASS was not entertaining, in just 9 days.

You can reach Devendra on 72085 11530. Google maps link. Do give him my reference.

couple of times, I never touched the tjet for weeks and when I did start it up after 3 weeks or even once after 2 months, I never faced any issues till date.

Would like to know what issues have you got after a parked for a long time.

Thanks Kanad. As stated in my earlier post I had this problem where I felt that the engine had a slight extra vibration after I got the injector coil replaced. I faced the engine misfire problem again and I showed to another local workshop. He did fix it but mentioned that there was a problem with the electronic control module sending the current into the coils. I cannot take the word of the technician but accepted the argument and paid the charges for fixing it.

Thanks for your suggestion with the Navi Mumbai contact. I am hoping that the car serves well but now I know that if I need a fiat specialist where do I go.

Sajands,

The issue has been with the vibration of the engine and the fuel injectors failing. I can’t really say if it is because the car is left idle for a long time. I feel that the other contributing reason is the the fact that the car is 9 years old and original parts do have a certain life. I drive the Linea every couple of days. I take it to work once a week and it is my beater car to drive short distances for local market runs and other household chores.

Re: Why Do I Love my Fiat Linea !!!

The car needed a good wash. Got it cleaned at a local car wash shop last weekend. I later followed up with a DIY wax polish. Sharing some pictures of the car. I am excited about car inching closer to the 10 year mark.

Re: Why Do I Love my Fiat Linea !!!

Hi Raj,
Your Linea looks 1 year old. The way you have maintained is amazing. Keen to know, whats the mileage of the car?

Also, you quite replicate my thoughts about the car. I own a Punto & these cars surely make its place in the heart that you never feel like letting them go.

Thank You Sir!

The car has clocked about 67,500 kms so far. I have been driving the car almost every day. Since my commute to work is of only 10 kms one way I haven’t done much kms. I got the second car in November 2017. I don’t really need two cars. I however decided to keep the Linea as it is highly depreciated and the value that it will lose year over year will not be much. In addition to that the Linea serves me well as a good beater car. Also there is the emotional connect with the car.

Regards,

Raj

Re: Why Do I Love my Fiat Linea !!!

Hi guys, Would appreciate some opinion on a issue I am facing with my Linea Multijet.

My Linea is at 35000 kms. Last service at 30000 kms. Before that at 15000 kms. After the service the car felt very smoother and silent which I attribute to the oil change. Then I decided that the 15000 kms interval is too long for Indian weather and road conditions, my driving routes with stop go traffic and decided to get the oil changed every 10000 kms. However, it's been just 4 months and 5000 kms and I experience rough engine noise. Immediately after the service I was getting 17.xx kmpl for almost 3.5 months and now 15.xx kmpl on the same office route. I was getting 15.xx kmpl as I neared 30000 km service. I think it's too early for the oil to go bad. What else could you think of? The car laid idle for almost 11 days post which I am experiencing these issues.

Appreciate your inputs on this. TIA

Mileage varying from 17 Kmpl to 15 Kmpl is within the standard deviation which one experiences depending on driving conditions. Also it is common for a car to give a slightly lower mileage if it is kept idle for extended periods such as it being driven only once in 10 days. Anyway, If you think there is something wrong with the car you can get it checked from a fiat specialist technician. My personal experience with the Linea is of owning the 1.4 Petrol engine powered car.

Re: Why Do I Love my Fiat Linea !!!

On 15th of October this year, my Linea completed a milestone of 10 years of ownership. I had taken the delivery on 15th October 2009 which happened to be one of the auspicious days of Diwali in that year.
The highlights of the ownership are that even after 10 years I still feel good to drive the car and I still look back at the car every time I park and walk away from it.

I take the car to the local FNGs for servicing and any repairs when needed. I have an experience of testing and being comfortable with 3 separate garages who can work on the car. I get the annual servicing of changing the engine oil, air and oil filters from one of the workshops. I buy the parts online from 99rpm.com

Work Done:
I had changed the suspension on February 2017.

The last issue which had cropped up was with the headlights. The electronics acted up due to which the Tail lights, Fog Lamps and the Parking Lights weren’t working. My trusted car specialist from the FNG was able to fix it.
The other recurrent issue has been with the Ignition Coil going kaput causing a misfire. Changing the coil last month cost me Rs. 1200 (Rs. 1000 for the part from a local car parts shop and Rs. 200 as labour).

The car does have some minor issues but I am at peace with them. I guess that is the quintessential quirk of an Italian Car which is over 10 years old. With an Old Italian car I don't expect everything to work the way it is supposed to be when new. My car dashboard has a warning light continuously, 'ON' to indicate an error with lights of the car but the mechanics haven’t been able to get rid of the warning message inspite of all lights working fine.

I think I Love the car for the way it where it may not be perfect. It is more like the philosophy as per which you know that life has blemishes and you got to accept it the way it is.

The car has clocked 69000 Kms in 10 Years. I like to keep the car looking good externally. After the monsoons I get it washed at a car washing centre. I polish the car myself using Formula 1 Carnuba Wax Polish.

I am sharing the pictures of the car which I had taken on 18th October of this year at the car wash place and in my parking space after a DIY session of wax polishing.

Thanks Jay. I went through your review. I love the Blue Linea. I remember in 2009 when the Linea was launched they had a digital ad campaign of the car in that exact colour. l guess it must have been from Brazil. I desperately wanted the Linea in blue but there was no clarity about when Fiat India would offer that colour option. I then went ahead and booked my car. Also at that time the TJet wasn't launched.

I enjoyed your review. Captures the mood and bond that we Fiatians share with our metal steeds.

Sir,

You have got a nice car there and I urge that you keep it for years to come. With mine, I know that inspite of it being a car which tugs my heart strings it is low on power. The TJet with that sweet Petrol Turbo has decent power and has performance mod potential. It can be remapped to get some more juice out of it. The car is discontinued in India but the TJet can become a nice Fiat classic car in the future.

Best,

Raj Bajwa

Re: Why Do I Love my Fiat Linea !!!

Great job keeping the car around! Mine completed 10 years in June this year. Can't say how many KMs though as the LCD has conked out. Waiting for a replacement. Still runs great!

Thank You. I too am facing a problem with the LCD Display in the Dash. At times the figures and numbers are clear and there are times when it is blank.

Good to hear that there are other Fiatians who are holding on to their cars for long periods.

Re: Why Do I Love my Fiat Linea !!!

Update:

11 Years completed on 15th October 2020. (From Delivery date).

I drive the car regularly but the number of kilometres is very less due to the pandemic situation. I don’t go to office for work and the only opportunity I have to take the car out is for local errands. In the initial two months of the lockdown the running was practically zero. I must have driven around 15 - 20 kms in those initial months. Since June, 2020 the average running is about 100 kms a month.

Issues Faced: The LCD display screen in the dashboard which also serves as the odometer has gone blank. I had faced this problem in the past when there was high humidity in the air during the monsoons. The display went back to normal after the monsoons. However this time even even a few months after the monsoon I don’t see that the display is showing any signs of showing the characters.

I need to get the regular servicing done for the oil changes. The last time I had done it was about a year back. The total kms I must have done on the car in the 11 years must be in the 75,000 range. (I am guessing the figure based on what I remember seeing in the display screen in the dashboard when it was working last).

I wax the car on my own. I wax it once in a couple of months. I am sharing the pictures of the car which I took last time after waxing it. These were taken on 11th October 2020.

Congratulations! Your Linea is indeed very well maintained and nice to see this beautiful car. Linea is one of my favorite cars from that era of NA petrol cars.

I can totally relate to your thread. I am in the exact same boat. I am got a 2010 Maruti SX4 and then a 2017 BMW 320d. And exactly as you said about your Linea, I still enjoy the SX4 as a second car. The simple mechanical charm of old fashioned NA petrol engine coupled with a manual gearbox is what still attracts me to my SX4. This is in total contrast to the powerful turbo-diesel and the sleek ZF in the BMW. But this is what makes both the cars special in their own ways and I enjoy both of them.

You have got a great garage. Wish you many more happy miles on both the cars!
