hi Mods,
Could you change the title to "Swift n Furious - Swift Diesel [DDiS] 30K Service Update" ?
Guys,
After a long time I am back to my thread with updates on the 30,000 kms servicing @ Surakshaa - Bommanahalli ! I have done this much kms in 18 months. Most of these kms were clocked during my journeys to my native [Kottayam] from Bangalore.
I drive into Surakshaa and lots of friendly familiar faces come to me with smiles, including Lokesh. I wave and smile at all of them back - and I feel @ home !
My car is so familiar to all of them; may be because of the graphics, or could be because of the stupid doubts I ask and my weird requirements also ! -- I have no clue. But all of them refer to my car as "KL swift" !!! Is mine the only KL swift which goes to Surakshaa, Bommanahalli ??!
Most of the issues for 30K service were minor.Details of service as follows:
Requirements:
1. Check battery - as I have amplifier and woofer and also drive mostly in the night with headlights & fog lights switched on for 8 hours continuously. The other day my keyless entry sound was mute when I tried unlocking and it started working normally the next day onwards - was scared a bit whether battery was low.
2. Wiper spray adjustment - the left most one was going above the wiper cleaning level and the right most one the lower than the wiper level
3. One of the horns would stop working at times and whenever I am in service station, would work fine - requested for a replacement under warranty.
4. The SA [Venkatesh] found some rattling noise at the rear during test drive and wrote it in job card [not able to make out whats it]
5. I complained of gear shift noise and he said greasing should take care of it.
6. I changed my fog lamp some 5000kms back and the new bulb not as powerful as stock ones.
7. Replace A/C switch as its already worn out [black color became white].
8. Check blower position switch [which direct air to face, legs, windshield etc] - the middle position is too tight when I turn it.
9. Requested for a blower cleaning as I don't feel enough wind speed at blower 1 and also its slightly noisy at speed 1.
10. Provided new horns [from Honda - Skoda type] and requested for fitting it.
11. Oil change is due @ every 10K kms and so is oil filter.
12. SA said he will check condition of air filter and will replace it if required.
13. A small rectangular shape on the bumper [on driver side] had been missing after one crappy guy came and jammed the bumper with his Activa - he ripped the bumper out of his stupid foot rest and broke the bumper where we tighten it with nuts and the small piece went missing as well.
I gave the car for service on 3rd Apr 10, 5 PM and was promised a delivery on 4 Apr 10 @ 3 PM .
Gave the car and came back home and in another 2 hours got a call from Venkatesh that he changed the oil and oil filter - no probs, great job, I said!
Venkatesh: Sir...I have changed the front brake pads as well!
Me: WHAT??!!!!

the brakes were alright when I gave the car sir ! And I even had a hard braking on the way where I felt the brakes are quite OK -- So why would you want to change it? [In fact the threads on service centres ripping off customers on clutch overhaul in t-bhp started flashing in my mind -- Was Surakshaa also on the list?? !!] and I started feeling that the top floor of Total Mall, Madiwala [I was shopping there] was shaking and breaking apart under my feet -- especially when I knew for sure that Swift brake pads are the costliest of all Marutis' ! And Venkatesh had given me a quote of appr. 3000/- for servicing excluding the brake pads which means I will shell out a 6K altogether [brake pads are 3K for a swift].
I could not say anything as I knew that's the most important part of a car and its not good to compromise on brakes as I drive a lot in highways and also mostly in 3 digit speeds. Now understanding my dilemma , Venkatesh consoles me saying "Sir, the current brakes will not run for more than 2K kms" !
Me: "Arey yaar, I am going to Coimby next week and you could have changed it after that !!" [I myself was not too convinced to say that - but still said it].
After a long silence, I said "OK..go ahead and replace the brakes" and in the mean time my thoughts were revolving around t-bhp and asking for opinion on Jaggu's thread on the brake replacement part.
Came back home and feeling so desperate - got into t-bhp and wrote the concern on Jaggu's thread. 5 mins - no response, 10 mins - no response, 30 mins - no response! GUYS..where are you all -- I need help..please !
I deviated my attention to "Munich" and dinner and NO, I am still restless ! I had kept the browser open where I typed the details and kept on refreshing ! not happening!
I came back to movie and refreshed the browser around 12.30 AM -- Awesome, the first reply [Thad E Ginathom] ..asking me to check with them for old brake pads.
Next day, slept till 11 AM and after getting up, refreshed the thread again and KPZen had already replied [including pics] with the consolation that diesel brake pads are changed at 30K kms! am convinced and my mind became lighter too!
Went to Surakshaa @ 3 PM and Venkatesh was there. Said the car is ready and took me to double check the work!
1. Wiper washer setting not upto my liking - got it tweaked in front of me as per my wish - Great.
2. Car is clean and also the interior polishing is done well [ I am a huge fan of this as this gives the car a brand new feel] - great.
3. New horns placed on left side inspite of requesting to be moved to right side [driver side] - He gave the explanation that its not possible to move it there as there is no space - not a problem, I can live with that!
4. Stock horn replaced [one of them which was not working] - great.
5. The left fog lamp bulb - "Sir, I checked our stock and we have the same brand in stock [Mico I believe] and hence we didn't change it !" - HMMM !
6. "The air con switch is not in stock - I have ordered, will take around 15 days to come" - OK !
7. "The small piece on bumper also needs to be taken from old bumpers which are dumped and need to be re-painted. I will try to flick one" -- not a bad idea!.
8. "The air blower position switch, please press it down and turn it and it will work fine! This is how you should do it." -- now that's a new piece of info for me!
The windshield had lots of dirty specs and wanted to get it cleaned ! Venkatesh said, please go for a test drive and come back and I will get it cleaned -- OK!
9. Took it out for a test drive - OH MY OH -- the car feels great ! its not the car I gave for servicing. the interiors become more silent [almost no rattles] , gear shift brilliant and steering feels awesome! I LOVE SURAKSHAA !
Came back after test drive and am all satisfied and got the car cleaned.
Venkatesh noticed the team-bhp sticker on number plate and asked; "You also are on team-bhp?"
"Yaa..Of course! You know, Surakshaa has a good rating on t-bhp and that's why I am here" !
V: "I just now delivered another t-bhp swift"
Me: "OMG, I missed that guy!" [Who among you was that? - I think that was a silver Swift VXi which was delivered around 4 PM on Sunday , 04 Apr 2010 ?
And in the mean time, checked with Venkatesh whether I could see a sample of brake pads - was already convinced that the brake pad change is normal and was curious as to see how it looks!
Venkatesh probably understood my concern and said "I have kept ur previous pads in car itself and we could take a look". He showed me the brake pads and explained how thick would be a new one - frankly felt that the replaced ones could have done some 2-5K kms again with the indications he showed for the new ones!
Now time to pay the bill - Venkatesh explained everything and I suddenly notice that they charged for the horn replacement ! I checked with him why is it not under warranty and also showed my extended warranty and service booklet as well.
Venkatesh got the replaced piece checked and said there is some external damage. Anyway he will send it for warranty claim and will keep me posted if there is any improvement for claim [in 15 days].
I said OK and paid the bill of around 5K [I am relieved as its below 6K which I expected] and get back to car ! I switch on the ignition and see the SVC light would not go off! WHAT THE HELL ! Don't mess with me! I try switching off and on and also started once where it goes off ! Back to the front office and reported the problem and decide to sit in A/C and watch KKR Vs K11 Punjab.
"Venkatesh, The SVC light is on and I think you need to use your tech 2 scanner" !!

[I know all these things BOY! I am a team-bhpian] and Venkatesh gives me an odd look!
Guys get back to check the problem and come back to me after 15-20 mins saying the problem is fixed.
I checked and everything is fine -- wave my hands to all those guys present and drive back. I felt a better acceleration than before I gave it for service [lesser engine noise as well] and that put a WIDE GRIN on my face ! Honking the new HONDA horns powered by melody maker, I drove back - SWIFT; yet FURIOUS !
