Update @44444 KM's

Life at a lazy naughty 44444
Tata Safari 2.2 - Life beyond 65k kms-44444.png
Nothing much to report .. it rumbles along with (touchwood) no issues except that stupid tail gate creaks a lot.. Thanks to Dadu, i know what to do to reduce/eliminate it. Looking forward to 45K service where i plan to get rid of the noise completely.

To Do list :-)
  1. 45K Service :S
  2. Sound Deadening (Noise Kill) (Help where can they do the best.. pune or Mumbai ?)
  3. DRL kinda LED strips to be placed like a small circle where OEM fog lamps go in
  4. Drive Drive and Drive

Tyres are holding good :-) I like em.. A bit harder rider than the BS's but total paisa wasool. and ofcourse braking distance is wee bit longer as the tyres are hard, now have got used to the way it handles even in hard braking conditions

Brake pads are holding good as well.. Still good to go for 10 - 15k atleast.. Last replaced @ shades below 30k kms i guess.

Tata Safari 2.2 Update @ 45000 KMS

Finally last and fifth free service coupon was consumed.

What was not done.

1. Hub Greasing ( not required after opening and inspection by mechanic)
2. Coolant Replacement (Good condition still and not required on a closer note looked at the service history and found that they had replaced the radiator last year itself + new coolant :P)

3. Minor leakage from front seal of camshaft (will leave the vehicle at TASS sometime later)

What was done.

1. Regular Service
2. Oil/Oil Filter (oil 266/ltr 7.5ltr)
3. Fuel Filter (1600/-)
4. Gear Oil (259/ltr 1.6 ltr)
5. greasing etc
6. Wheel align + balancing + rotation

What was proactively carried out.(Mitigating the risk)

1. Replaced Tie rods (both) developed play
2. Replaced one lower ball joints (one) developed play (other was ok)

Tie Rod: 860 each
Ball Joint: 600 each

Mechanic suggested to go ahead with replacement as it could turn out to be a risk

3. Front Shock Absorbers (both) front pitching up and down 2 - 3 times as they developed leak and were weak

Front Shock Absorber Gabriel: 1200 each

Mechanic said that it can carry on but after few discussions with fellow bhpians went ahead and replaced em.
Brake Liner and Brake Pads are in good condition and should last until 60k if driven properly

Wah what a changeover after riding on bad front shock absorbers. The difference is imminent and my friends who regularly ride with me on the veh also noticed the change.
Fat bill of approx 13 came out of which 10 was for parts etc and 3 for labor

Quote:
Today i was noticing those old shockers and depressed them.. both of em didnt return back

Overall feeling.. vary satisfied

I just did a analysis of how many visits for whatever work i have gone to TML and the figures are really gory :(

Year/# of visits/km run in year
  1. 2009/11/11899 (6months period only starting purchase of veh jun09)
  2. 2010/12/19216 (marginally better)
  3. 2011/5/5659 (well ...)
  4. 2012/1/556 ( only in first visit of the year the second is lined up front camshaft oil seal)
Technically i hate this figure by leaps and bounds (90% of them are running repairs and rest 10 percent consume the accident repair + regular service)

Tata motors really really needs to figure out their sorry state of running repairs being carried out on their vehicle (seems like extremely bad QC there will never change)

I suggest you do not miss out anything which is recommend. Even things like coolant change. Once you are into extended warranty even such a small lapse can cause refusal of warranty

Tata Safari 2.2 gets shades of 3m CR70 Sunglasses

So took the plunge & got the 3m CR70 installed on the front screen.

Thanks for the inputs Jay

Inquired about v-kool but was expensive @ 13k and so then called up 3m viman nagar and went there in the afternoon.
They say its antiglare, but once the film dries up only the real effect will come up.

3m was quoted@7.7 no discounts though i got a free vacuum and wash. Professionally done.

The film will dry in couple of days as quoted " Keep the car in sun for few days "

Initial impressions are apparent, less heat but then only coming summer will tell

Some pics to do the talking.
Installation in progress.. giving the film shape on the windscreen

Update

The cr70 are areal boon. Everyone who sat in the car after parking in open for 2hrs at hot sat afternoon on mg road acknowledged that it's much much better than before.

1. Replaced centre link rod. Realignment done. Much better steering now
2. Replaced coolant (part of 5th service which was pending)
3. Hub greasing and bearing replaced. Thanks tanveer for the headsup. They were on the way out.
4. Without driving on rough roads the rear suspension bushes went kaput.. Hmmm interesting I wonder why. Got them replaced only 15k back grrr..
5. Front suspension upper arm bushes gone almost..some weekend sigh.. Then peace of mind for atleast 20-30k Kms..

Question..what are the best probable replacements for getting good shocks and bushes for safari which are of good quality?

240 per sq feet for required 30sqft is bit kinda on the higher side from carcupid.
Noise kill is the product used.

Parking Lights

Low Beam

Experts, do you see a problem with the beam.
I am finding the High beam going into the faces of the public coming in from opposite direction. :(
