I hope these TATA takes note of these goof ups and start getting serious about the quality of work.

Even if the parts are replaced under warranty, the amount of time wasted and inconvenience caused to the owner is something that should be eliminated!

Sigh! Wishful thinking, eh?

New Radiator

Some factuals about New Radiator.

Costs 16xxx/- for Tata Toyo (FOC under warranty)
Costs 2-3xxx for Labour (FOC under warranty)

There are two kinds of Radiators one from Tata Toyo and one from BEHR
in Tata Safari (PS:well BEHR is making inroads into ARIA)

Of bulls and buffalos @24K KMS

So the bull met a herd of buffalos running like lunatics and guess what

Tata Safari 2.2 - Life beyond 65k kms-damage.jpg

Crunch off goes one of the Hella's. Luckily only the outer hella cover is broken rest is intact. No use of bickering with the cattle owner .

I hope to source it soon from nanapeth laxmi road.

After this incident went off to the mechanic to remove the other Hella, as it seemed to be a bull with one eye blinded beaten blue and black.
Removed the positive connection from battery, taped it up properly and now once I find the hella cover, would reconnect the lights back..perhaps not..maybe unless required.

Sorry to hear the damage mate. Yes, herds are same everywhere whether bipeds or quadrupeds- they always run like lunatics.

One broken hella... similar situation here, still looking out for that sump guard garnish on the bumper.

At least you could have asked for some milk as compensation

BJ the lesser said the better... :-)

So last night traveled almost 1k here there, a quick trip to Shirdi @3pm and returned by 4AM saw the safari completing 25,000 KMs.

So the story until 25000kms in a nutshell.

Positives 80%
  • Comfortable cruiser with 7 people though a lil tight.
  • Linear pulling power from 3rd gear onwards
  • Supportive seats makes everyone back in tip top shape.
  • Awesome FE 12 in city and above 14kmpl with A.C. on consistently.
  • A.C cools effectively
  • Suspensions... WOW..tell me one another vehicle which can soak up indian roads @80KMPH without breaking a sweat.
Negatives 20%
  • Kya likhu
  • Fully loaded brakes are not inspiring above 100KMPH and that to on undulating roads. Next time that ABS as a mandatory requirement.Only if ABS could be retrofitted.sighhh
  • Hydraulic steering is a like a lunatic on run sometimes. Not at all good..average.
  • Clutch ain't designed to handle the huge torque it seems. Will always be a main prick to this vehicle of mine.
Overall a happy experience.

One thing to note.. it never stranded me till
now.

Design fault

Kudos to experts to identify root cause.

So now that I know, what caused those meekly jerks here is the interesting link.

The root cause was torsional vibrations in the transmission in mycase clutch and a good read on that to understand is this

New testing innovations increase the accuracy and efficiency of torsional vibration analysis

So, it IS a design fault which TML wants to bury

I dont understand. What kind of problem are you facing with your clutch so early. In 43k of usage I always felt the clutch was quite capable but could have been better. IMHO the use of 4x4 puts additional burden on the clutch... but I have no problems yet.
Do you ride your clutch or have to drive in terrain requiring excessive clutching?
Have you got it checked with the TASS and what is the diagnosis?

Jay bhai,
No issues with the clutch etc, the pressure plate and /or the flywheel is unbalanced which at certain RPM resonates so much that the vehicle jerks.
Either its a design fault or something really serious.

ERC @TML has acknowledged it and are having a wait and watch aproach on this.

From 350KM/week to 10KM/week

Still awaiting to hear from ERC@TML Guys.. so no updates yet

On the other note.. i am being shameless to admit that my weekly work ride of 350kms has reduced to mere 10km a week :(

I was informed by fellow BHPian (during meet on 8th Apr) that you would be changing your workplace. Hope this reduced daily drive results in long drives & travelogues like last winter.

Yes, I know what it is. You used to drive with your windows rolled up in the 3 liter but you have turned miser and now drive without the ac in your 2.2

Well i have completed 25700kms until now, that means since april until now approx 600kms .

This month my safari got its insurance renewed for approx 11k

It seems that in 30k service, i will get the suspensions checked thoroughly, as i can feel that the vehicle bounces and sways a little more than before.

3 months and 600kms! Are you trying to save you diesel?

For the bouncing, also have a look at your tire pressure, just in case.
