The first time this kind of an engine came to India, it was run on a Lancer devoid of any of the above, and whether anyone beleives it or not (I care a fig in any case), we clocked 0-100 in 6.9 seconds.

With regards to quater mile in 11 seconds, it's possible with the right modifications in place, I never at any time stated that it would do 11 seconds in stock tune.

Does my car do any of the above - NO CHANCE, not with the amount of stuff thats in it. If it did, then most enthusiasts in this forum would be driving a lancer with a 4G92 MIVEC in it.

I am not getting defensive, I am stating facts. It would be nicer if people read up a little on what was stated in the past, before expressing their shock and / or surpise.
Hey Farhan, you've got me all wrong. I was merely stating that a stock Mivec would not do a 0-100 kmph time of 6.2 seconds. Modded Mivecs are another story altogether. In fact, I was discussing this with the owner of the black Mivec the other day, and was telling him I'm pretty sure his car should be doing under 7 seconds with the right fuel. Now I'm thinking given the car and the driver, it should be closer to 6.5. And I was expressing surprise because I thought someone had mentioned that the stock Mivec will do 11 seconds to the quartermile.

I've driven these engines in heavy traffic, and they feel so much torquier than a B16 -- which I had mentioned when we went for a spin in your car. Added to that the fact that the Lancer is just so much better at going around corners, makes me wonder why HM didn't just sell this engine in the first place.

BTW, I had no idea 700 did a stock time of 6.9 seconds when you guys first tested her. That really is just (in a jaw-droppingly amazing sort of way).

OT: Does your car rotate its front wheels when in the air in neutra, ie in neutral with engine on put on a 2 post vehicle lift?

~172BHP.

You'll need premium petrol though - I believe Harrie travels with Speed97 cans.

I went bonkers!!!

I admit I am head over heels in love with this car. Did yet another Coimby - Wayanad - Coimby trip this week. Woke up at 4.45AM, left race course by 5.00 AM. Hardly any traffic, reached Asanur by 7.00AM.

After a quick vada and coffe started again. Reached gundulpet, picked up a times of india, another coffee and onwards. Reached home by 10 - just in time for breakfast.

A quick wash a little rest and I was back on the road by 11 AM. This time had my wife and daughter for company. So it was more of a leisure drive back. Reached coimbatore by 4.30PM.

Tripmeter read 531kms. One tankful of Speed 97 with another 5-10L left over

Best of all I didnt have a back pain None of my other cars have this sort of a comfortable posistion. Truly a car I wanna take the next time I drive down to goa, but then the question of fuel remains to be sorted out!!!

Can't you detune it to use normal petrol? Or is the 11:1 compression ratio just too much? In my book, a loss of maybe 10BHP to let me use regular petrol is an acceptable compromise.

I don't think it will require 97 octane to run, IMO 91 ~ 93 octane should be good enough for a daily drive. These days we have cars with 10.1:1 compression running on normal 87 octane gas.

However, I might be wrong as I don't own an engine with that high comp ratio. Harrie or Sideways would be able to throw some more light on it.

For other petrolheads, here is what the 1.6L 4G92 DOHC Mivec and the B16B DOHC Vtec specs look like
  • 4G92-MIVEC DOHC 16 Valve
  • Total Displacement - 1597cc
  • Bore - 81.0mm
  • Stroke - 77.5mm
  • Compression Ratio - 11:1
  • Maximum Output - 128 kW (174 PS; 172 bhp) @ 7,500
  • Maximum Torque - 167 N·m (123 ft·lbf) @ 7,000
B16 B DOHC Vtec
  • Displacement: 1,595 cc (97.3 cu in)
  • Compression: 11.0:1
  • Bore: 81 mm (3.2 in)
  • Stroke: 77.4 mm
  • Power: 185 hp (134 kW) @ 8200 rpm & 110 ft·lbf (155 Nm) @ 7500 rpm
  • Redline: 8400 rpm
  • Transmission: S4C With LSD
  • Vtec engagement @ 5,800 rpm
Cheers,
Shrey

What I've read is that the 4G92 has a pretty advanced knock sensor. So even if you put in regular gas, the engine should automatically back off on ignition to compensate. Only thing is lesser power. To use the all of the horses you will need 97.

Dude, he's using petrol that costs INR 70/- per liter. It ain't cheap to run :P

That said, I wonder if Harrie has run normal petrol and checked how the engine reacted.

If you can find a MIVEC engine, then there is nothing like the lancer. Dont sell your car, try hard to get that engine. Dont ask me how, I'm a confirmed dieselhead

Please do a lot of research before going in for a swap. It's not as easy as it sounds. Harrie and other's would have gone through a lot of trouble to get their cars to the condition they are in today. It would have involved a lot of time, money and hardships.

These threads should give you a better idea about modifying a Lancer. Go through them in detail.

Hey Shrey, I think your bhp and max. rpm figures of the two engines mentioned are incorrect.
