Meanwhile, removed the Alipne HU and secured the antenna cable better, and connected the iPod cable too. Radio reception has improved. Waiting for my iPod to arrive.

Thanks Kavi.

Meanwhile, got into an unintentional off-road adventure.

My Tata Safari 4x4. EDIT: Sold after 11 years-safari_10042010.jpg

I was reversing on the ITI road to find a parking place and failed to notice the (newly dug) trenches. Thanks to the elephant like GC- nothing happened and the 2.5 ton beast walked out w/o any fuss. Occasions, that make you proud of the Safari .

KCE-422i iPod cable + Alpine DVA-9861E (oem Safari VX HU)

Sometime back DIY installed the KCE-422i iPOD cable that came with Safari. Tested with my nano 5g ver 1.0.3- songs/playlists browse, search and play works fine, but, it does not charge the iPod. When connected, a message like "Connected to Alpine- this accessory does not charge iPod", appears on the iPod screen and displays an Alpine Logo plus the control buttons on iPod don't work.

BJ, I too had put up a query in Kaviprem's thread for this ipod connectivity issue. Look here. It says that the KCE-422i will charge the ipod but requires a special adapter. I was wondering if you can borrow an iPod classic from someone and test if the HU charges the iPod when connected. If it does, it will clear things.

Just got a tyre shock last weekend :(. OEM Bridgestone Dueller H/T tyre on RHS rear has developed a crack. I am yet to reach 10k mark and less than 1.5 years. Fighting with BS. Lets see how far it goes. Details here http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/1989266-post433.html

Just off the phone seeking an appointment for my Safari- wanted to get the wheel alignment and rotation done as I have crossed the 10 mark. The lady on other side said that they are taking in only scheduled (free) service and "paid service" has waiting for about 45 days !!

Man! looks like Safari is selling like hot cake and BuB Wakad is busy accommodating them...need to find another TASS.

Why do you want to go to TASS for alignment and balancing unless you are trying to get it done FOC?

And 45 days seems to be just over the top!

HW, it is mainly because of two reasons:

1) I have read somewhere on this forum (probably Safari Tech thread?) that it is advisable to go to (big) TASS as they have correct equipment, measures and experience to properly align wheels of a Safari 2.2. This will be my first alignment experience, hence, do not want to take any chance. Will get the wheel rotation done too.

2) It has to be in the "service records" should I need to claim warranty ever (mine is just about a year and half old and I have 2+2 years warranty).

Regarding the waiting period, the lady insisted that they are over booked for normal paid service and can only take in a scheduled service or some minor/urgent small job like alignments etc. Now, why would a business refuse to take-in a paying customer unless they are overbooked? Sorry, if my last post created confusion- they are overbooked for routine "paid servicing" only.

My next scheduled service is 2 years or 15000 kms, which cannot happen before Feb, 2011, based on my (slow) mile munching rate

@BJ,

Even I go down to TASS since the reading for the 2.2 are, rather, were not available with the outside shops and they usually set the readings to earlier 3 liter vehicles. And also TASS will have the latest parameter settings that are required and communicated by TATA.

Come to think of it, even I would do that same (rather, I have done the same till now!). One reason is as told above, other one being, TASS is very close to my work place. Easier for me to go there and get things done than elsewhere. And the SA at Concord are very accommodating to my requests, so I am even more comfortable with them.

Ok, here is my suggestion. Since this is just for the alignment, I doubt if you should fall under the "paid service" category and made to wait. Alignment are done by a separate team for all the vehicles (Indica's, Sumo's et la). Talk to your SA and walk in directly. Maybe a early morning, opening time, presence might help you in getting the work done before the queue builds up.

Do check on these lines.
