Hey guys,

I just picked up a 2002 Mitsubishi Galant V6 Auto GTZ spec yesterday, the 12th.
The car has done approx. 65150 miles when I got her.
Have driven 50 miles so far.

The car is bone so far and looks clean from what I have noticed.
Engine is rated at 195bhp but I have a few plans, which I hope will work out.

Here's what I plan to do in the following month:
- HKS Hi Power Muffler
- Paint the alloys Matt Black.

I will upload pics and a proper report once I finish getting the car detailed and washed.
Thanks to everyone who helped me with this decision.

I hope things work out.

Mods: Please don't move this thread as I plan on updating it regularly.

Congratulations. How about some pics ?

Congratulations Lambo! Finally you bought yourself a car eh! Have fun!

Congratulations buddy.
That's a great car. Have fun with the 6 cylinders and 195 (it should be more?) horses!
The engine is 2.0 ltr or 3.0 ltr?

Congrats! Great student car, I hope she serves you well. A tip : do most of the maintenance work yourself....us Indians will find the American labour charges too damn high!

Did you run a car fax on her? How much?

The Galant - always reminded me of a Shark ! Loved that wicked, sharp look it had. (97 /98 models).

Pics, pls.

Congrats! Waiting for the pics! Please try and post pics in the condition you got it and how it has turned out after detailing and Matt Black wheels.

Do check the service history of the vehicle as the Timing Belt (and also Water Pump) needs to be changed every 60 K miles compared to Toyota's that need this changed at approx 90-100K. This is provided your model ones dont have the steel timing belt.

Galant is a great car. Was my first car during my US stay. Had bought a 2000 model used one that had 100K on the odo. Had it with me for three years. Rock solid and no issues. Just had to change the TB and WP at 120K. Sold it after three years and 140K on the odo.

Hey guys,
Thanks for the replied.
I am uploading a few pics. Will take better ones soon, before detailing.

@Speedzak: The car is a 3.0 V6. 195bhp is claimed and I am quite happy with the performance

@GTO: I ran a carfax and checked the KBB value. I further got the car inspected by Firestone who gave me the all clear I needed.
According to them, the brakes are 40% worn and I would need a set of new tyres by next winter. To be safe, I am putting them in September this year.
I paid a few thousand below the KBB value and all in all, with a 6 month insurance and taxes and car, I think I paid around $9,250.

So far I have driven around 250 miles in 5 days and if this continues, I am going to be broke very soon. I have another 100 mile drive planned tomorrow.

I will be posting a report pretty soon.

As for mods, I am in two minds about them, I like the car stock. However, I plan on getting it polished once the weather improves and will post before and after pics then as well.

BTW, I had a query to ask you'll:

When I got the car, in my excitement, I didn't notice that I was handed only 1 key and no spares. The dealership told me that they didn't get the spare. What should I do about this? The dealer said he will help me getting another spare tomorrow, but I'm still a bit dicey about the whole thing.

who did you buy the car from? Mitsu dealer or just any used car dealer?

If the Mitsu dealer is making the key then nothing to worry about. They cut the key based on the VIN.

is this the same engine used in the Eclipse sports car

Great looking, I love the mature look of this gen Galant. Plus, you've landed up with a nice colour too.

Neat. Important to get a clean car in a country where mechanic labour charges start at $45 / hour.

Typical of auction cars.

@Mpower: I think it is the same engine that was used in the old eclipse. I believe those had 2 options. A 2.4 and a V6.
Got the car from a regular dealer, whose service I liked better than that of the Mitsubishi and Nissan guys.
Also, the Mitsu dealer will be making the key.

@GTO: Thanks. I saw a lot more cars, but was a bit scared off by them, mainly due to a few things I saw on Carfax. Since I don't have any family here, I didn't want to take a risk with reliability and safety. I even saw a VW Passat and Golf GTi but their reliability rankings and owners reviews were a total put off. The day after I got my car, I actually had to go and pick up a few friends whose golf GTi broke down!

eh lambo. why not get different bigger rims. they will really enhance the looks of your car.

Just walk into your nearest Walmart and for $4, you can get a duplicate made. Even I had got one key. Just made a couple of duplicates from Walmart.

@akshay: no money bro. Besides, I think bigger rims will reduce the ride quality and won't really suit the mature look of the car. Maybe if i get the car fully done up but till then...

@f1fan: I think I'll do this if the dealer can't help me out. Thanks!
