Cosworth for swift ?

@Joshguy, I think Sankar may be able to help you with the Cosworth. Also suggest you check out the internet for feedback on the diff filters, esp for the Swift. Viddy had done this for the Ikon/Figo, and that's how we ended up with the BMC instead of a K&N / Green

Yoko A-drives : puncture prone ?

Another flat in my Yoko A-drive: 2nd in the same tyre within 100km of each other. And 3rd overall in 20000 km. Wondering if Yoko's are really suitable for our roads.

re: Duratorq-in' with Josh: Ford Ikon TDCi * 4 years 7 months/43,941 km & Letting Go :(

Hi Condor,

How is the josh machine doing with the BMC filter? How much did you pay for it? Can the same filter be used for a Figo TDCi?

@deetjohn, the best price we found was 45 GBP. It is much costlier in US.

@Viddy, how's the numbers looking like ?

Numbers are same Parwath. I fill 1000 bucks usually and it's lasting me 320-340kms till the DTE alarm goes off which means 80kms more. Approximately 14kmpl.

Also engine is not freed up since car is still shy of 6000kms. Hopefully FE will go up a bit more.

One thing for sure, the filter makes a huge difference to the driveabality. She can potter in 3rd gear comfortably whereas earlier I needed a downshift.

Revert to tube-type ?

One of the A-drives had a puncture at the corner of the tyre (near where the sidewall starts). Have used it about a 100km, but found the tyre flat again. Was hoping it was not the same puncture, but it is.

Tyre Professionals has suggested getting it patched, or converting it to tube-type. Esp if the patching does not work.

Wondering if tube-types are still better than the tube-less, inspite of the convinience of the latter.

21000km - 2 yrs, 2,5 months

Going steady at 21000 km, after 2 yrs & 2.5 months.
FE typically 14.5 - 15.x kmpl.

Not sure what to do about the punctured tyre. One option is to go in for 2 tube-type tyres. Nikhil suggested getting the tyre patched and use it as a spare. But not to use it for long or at higher speeds. Doing this will mean that I will be running with practically 4 tyres only, and no spare. Two options: get a new tubeless, or get two Tube-types and use these in front or back.

Condor sorry to hijack your thread but posting here as i thought would get good advice here. Now coming to the point, i plan to use Synthetic oil in my car and its run 40k kms i plan to flush the oil as well the problem being Ford recommends 5W30 grade oils hence i would like to know which Synthetic oil can we use in the Ford 1.4 TDCI engine??

@B2BW, I think Ford A.S.S. also uses Mobil1 which is mostly 5W40. Most of the folks on TBHP who are using synth are with Mobil1.

So you can ask your A.S.S for this, or you can buy the oil outside & ask them to change the oil. Let them do it in front of you.

On a related topic, how much is your running ? Do you cover minimum 10k in 6 months ? If you dont, then I suggest you continue with mineral.

My running is about 10K kms in 3 months, Searched the entire market for 5W30 With no luck finally bought A can Of MOBIL 1 DElvac 5W40 for 3700 Rs. Lets see how the car feels after the change tommorow.

@B2bW, if you do 10k in 3 months, you should try Synth. With synth, you should also be able to stretch the oil change interval upto 15000. (Do discreet enquiry with your A.S.S about this).

Since the oil is fresh, the car will feel better immediately. The real difference will be seen in the long term.

6th Service @ 30 months / 22.6k

Completed 6th service of the Ikon today. Exactly 30 months since I got this baby home. Was pretty much routine stuff. Oil & Oil filter change, & general check-up.

Brakes cleaned as part of service. Brakes were kind of noisy/harsh in the mornings, for about a km or two. Hopefully should be resolved.

One other problem I had reported was a drop in FE. SA said he's got the air & fuel filters cleaned. I opted not to changing these at this time since both had been changed as per recommendations & recently. The fuel filter was changed just a year / 10k back, and the air filter 6 months back.

Total bill : Rs 2521/-
Did not opt for the wash, hence bill lesser than normal by 350/-

Hey Condor, man its 30 months already? Seems like just yesterday when you got it.
Strange that you have been facing so many punctures with the A Drives, I havent had one in about 15K or so of usage. Touchwood !!

re: Duratorq-in' with Josh: Ford Ikon TDCi * 4 years 7 months/43,941 km & Letting Go :(

Car looks fine after service, but then there were really no issues that had to be taken care of. One small issue was the car was a little dirtier after it came back - door panels (inside) were less clean than when I gave it.

One new problem seems to be coming up - the wiper blades pause for a moment before continuing. It happens only in the initial part, at about 20% into the first sweep.

I was looking at the bill, and really dont udnerstand what kind of consumables they used that they had to bill me Rs 175/- for. The only major work they did was changing oil. For this they have charged for oil, oil filter & gasket. Standard items. They would have used some cotton waste, but even in retail rates the amount of cotton waste they would have used should have been worth 10 bucks.

And they are selling the old oil anyway. Not that I want them to give it back to me ..

Consumables related to washing should not be counted here since I did not opt for washing, and they have not washed the car. (When they wash the car, they charge 350 bucks - and possibly 50 bucks for the shampoo. Wonder why 50 bucks- do they use 10% of the bottle or what ?

Some charges defy logic.

Sammy, thanks. Yup - it's already 30 months ..

I hope your tyres stay that way. I have had two, and dont like it. Relatively, my 5.5 yr tube type Bridgestones are steady.
