Congrats on getting a new head for your white elephant. How about a party?

Jokes Apart, Tanveer, I think TATA has done enough R & D on your white elephant. You should ask them for a new engine. 31,000 KMS and yet they are unable diagnose the problem.

Of course I am going for a drive. However this one will be short, only 600kms or so. But that should be enough to tell if the problem is there or not

In a modern car, I read somewhere, engine alone has about 500 components. Add fuel system, intake, egr, ecus, battery, instruments... the list of variables will easily be in 1000s. Now, replacing one part at a time will take 1000 changes. One change a day makes it almost 3 years to cycle all variables. That is only a layman formula. If you add all possible permutations the days would be boundless. TASS is being smart, at least they are changing bunch of things together- saves time, you see.

Injector/rail job will take 30 mts at the most even if they do it afterwards, so logically first replace the head and see if it sorts the issue. Otherwise for a like me it will look like a known but unsolvable injector issue, Tata is still scratching its heads for and buying time by replacing it AGAIN

Approx 200kms done after head change, and the problem has resurfaced. On cold start the rpm needle does the oscillations.
Its not as much as it was before, but I suspect it will keep getting worse as more mileage is piled on.
Lets see what needs replacement now!

Tanveer, I think the root cause erratic idling apart from the head also lies with some other component.

When head is replaced, valves etc,. are also replaced. I am talking about the engine block, i.e. cylinder, pistons etc.,

I would suggest that you ask TML to replace the whole engine including turbo. Erractic idling can also be caused due to the fuel pump or fuel supply.

BTW have the guys checked your throttle sensor as it can also be the culprit providing dubious signal to the ECU
