Even at 12 Lacs I don't Yeti can ever be a replacement to the Safari.

Especially with the kind of terrains that TSK does, the risks become a bit too large with Yeti like vehicle.

The experience of Pramod Singh with 4X4 AT Scorp is a case in point.

I would suggest sticking to MSIL/TATA/M&M stables and there also nothing exotic

Doc, Scorpio definitely has more space when compared to a hatch or compact sedan. I was comparing with the Safari. Someone who has gotten used to the space/comfort inside a Safari cabin will take some getting used to in the Scorpio. In my case, I was driving a Landcruiser LC100 and then a Nissan Patrol before the Scorpio. Maybe, this is why I feel the Scorpio cramped.

You know what. The ideal vehicle for me does not exist in India.
Its an innova with 20mm more GC and 4WD with low ratio.

But right now that does not exist.
The Safari also does not cut it. I want a vehicle that does not require a visit to the service center after every trip.
Tie rod and bush change costs 4100rs in a safari. Imaging doing this every 15000kms.
My indica used to go to such places, and she required tie rod changes at similar intervals, but they were much cheaper. I expected the safari to be tougher.
Esp since I drive very very slowly on bad roads. I have to, otherwise my back will give away.
So Safari is almost there for me, but not the ideal vehicle. The scorpio also does not cut it. I cannot keep going to service center every 5000kms, which I have to do to preserve warranty.
As for Yeti and all, looks great in the showroom, but out there, I dunno whether it will survive even a single tankfull of bad fuel

In any case, in 2 years' time, quite a few more options would be available. Plus, we pray that your financial status will grow wings, and you can afford a Land Rover to take to Ladakh - after all, TML loves you, so you shouldn't ditch them and move to another manufacturer!

To be honest Doc, I wouldn't dare take a Land Rover.....or a Volvo....or an Audi....or a VW to Ladakh - I'd have sleepless nights wondering "What if....?"

There was a Red Volvo in Leh last year, transporting the likes of Kareena etc - it packed up & had to be transported back by truck; guess they couldn't even begin to figure what had gone wrong

Actually why not, the engine would be as reliable or not as the Safari 2.2, and infact it seems company tested for all kinds of mountaineous conditions including snowy climate. The first views we had for the Aria was in europian snow covered tracks. And it has AWD + 4 Disks. Possibly the only downer could be the absence of 4L mode.

The Safari seems tested by us - as in TBHPians and other wild guys - while the Aria seems to have been pre tested by the company itself.

Aria won't cut it for the terrains I do. First the GC is not adequate enough, due to the long wheelbase.
Secondly, there is no low ratio, which is a deal breaker. Some terrains I do require low ratio. Moreover, I am not sure if it has LSD in the rear diff like the safari.

This is probably why the Fortuner is selling like hot cakes. A bit pricey but supposedly very reliable and reasonably spaced service intervals too. This combined with a low ratio and lockable diffs and a torquey proven diesel engine and robust build makes it the best of both worlds.

Oh yes, forgot to add 221mm of GC and a lever operated 4wd.

Well, I can buy 2 safari's for the price of one fortuner. I think paying 2X just for more reliability is a bit too much!
As I said, the perfect vehicle for me does not exist.
If Safari became totally reliable, it will be perfect!

Errrr...AFAIK Fortuner does not come with lockable diff. Not in India.

I'd always vote for my fav GV ;-)
Reliable, service network but no longer interesting pricing :-(
