re: Tata Indica DLG Turbo. EDIT: 17 years & 125k km up

Nice to see another Indica going strong at 15! Our petrol V2 GLS hit 15 last year. The engine is sluggish and the clutch is a pain, but the Indica just keeps going. We renewed the registration for the next 5 years too. This is one car I will not let anyone take away!

re: Tata Indica DLG Turbo. EDIT: 17 years & 125k km up

Car crossed 125k and 17 years last month

And the gearbox refused to shift one fine day.Either 1 or 3rd gear would refuse to fall into place. Rest were fine. Coincidentally, this happened just when my etios was facing shifter issues.
Unfortunately in this case, my mechanic deemed my current gearbox too far gone. While they did not go into specifics, they said it was too worn and not rebuild able.

Thankfully they were able to source a used gearbox (7k - a new one is 48k!), and i had a spare clutch lying around ( how many people keep a spare clutch just in case )

Anyway the work is going on, and I'll update

The car was delivered on Saturday with everything working fine. However on Sunday it stopped shifting with the engine on. I got a house call from my mech who tweaked the play in the clutch to enable shifting again. Things improved after that, but then on Monday the car started jerking violently in the middle of a u turn and stopped. A couple of passers by helped me push it to the road side. The car would not go into neutral. The clutch pedal had gone fully depressed. I couldn't start in gear because the car would attempt to move and stall. I could start in neutral but there was a strange noise coming. I left the car on the roadside and had workshop pick it up.

After a couple of days, this is the update. A failed release bearing. This is a brand new bearing from a clutch kit I bought from boodmo last year. The clutch has a manufacturing date of 2022. It's being replaced. I'm rather disappointed with a brand new bearing failing in one day, but that's how Tata spares are. Even the genuine ones. Now you know why I'll never buy another tata car again. This is not the first time a brand new genuine spare part experienced immediate failure.

It's being replaced. I will update

Got the car back from the bearing replacement. Was at home the next day tuning my ice when i hear a bang and notice rpm go up. Lost AC, power steering and brakes. Looked below the car and sure enough

Back to the workshop and they found this

Apparently some aftermarket wiring had gotten tangled up and caused the belt to snap. It's being fixed. Will update

re: Tata Indica DLG Turbo. EDIT: 17 years & 125k km up

I had issues with stability under braking and had asked them to look at the suspension.
This turned up

This is the area where my suspension Mounts are bolted
Looks like my maintainence expenses are going to cross 50k this year

re: Tata Indica DLG Turbo. EDIT: 17 years & 125k km up

Got the car and a very pricey bill.
Braking is still crap- wheels still locking up too easily but at least the tendency of the car to wander under hard braking is gone.

Reverse gear is still a bit hard to slot. Car is going back for linkage adjustment tomorrow.
Mechanic asked me to drive the car around for a week to bed the brakes. And see if braking improves

Time to sell the Indica, Greenhorn! 15 years is a lot for the car, I don't think even Tata intended for it to have such a long life.

Replace it with something newer, faster, more reliable....

Respectfully, sir - I disagree!
Our Indica Petrol is 16 years old too - granted it has only 97k on the clock.
But it does city duties perfectly well, only needing a battery every 4 years...
The AC blower motor fuse blew recently, but that was an easy fix.
The car's still got plenty of life in it, I believe
