the car wont be misused.
An inter state transfer would take a minimum of 2-3 months provided the buyer is prompt. Till then, the car will remain on your name but with a NOC granted to the new buyer’s name. Agents won’t be able to shorten the time much. An instantaneous transfer simply can’t happen like in case of intra state transfer.

Also, the price you quoted, I remember around 2.5L. The landed cost after paying road tax will be around 5L and there are vehicles at that price point in most people’s home states without the hassle of paperwork. The scrapyard guy would have paid you around 50k I guess.

The mere fact that lots of early 2010’s luxury cars are running around with DL ,
HR and UP plates vindicates OP’s decision to get it scrapped. These are running around without their ownership being transferred and road tax not paid, with invalid de-registered registrations. In case such a car gets into an acccident, the registered owner would be held liable for crores of rupees.

If an NOC certificate is given to the new owner, shouldn't they be liable for any mishap caused by the car. And also, I believe that you need valid insurance for the vehicle to get the NOC certificate. You also have upto 6 months in order to get the vehicle register in your state after obtaining the NOC.

Re: An exhaustive ownership review of my Honda Accord 2.4L AT

I too have a 2009 Accord MT which my brother-in-law bought second hand with only 30000 km on the ODO. It has done another 30000 in around 6 years. In Oct 24 we will bid it adieu.

Hasn't let us down even once. Runs like a dream though there are some minor thuds from the suspension on bumpy roads. NGT had done the dirty on us. A perfectly good asset will be consigned to the dust heap.

I did curse that dreaded NGT rule, it just doesnt make any sense.

You could have posted it in some facebook group, and it would have been grabbed by someone from the South. .
It did grab attention and one of the respondents has already replied in this thread as well. When you say there are a few specimen in your state with thier DL,UP number intact itself means that thier transfer process to another state never completed. NOC itself is not enough. And Since transfer is not complete, it means the liability of what happens lies with the owner in DL, UP of those number plates. As a matter of fact, it did grab attention of 3 people in Andra and one in Kerela of my specimen.

Thanks for replying. Your logic stands its ground. The additional burden of road tax on top of the price of the used car was making the purchase unfeasable.

Except the usual niggles associated with Accord like steering leak, steering pump issues...etc. I have provided in depth review in my thread. This car is worth its salt.

Re: An exhaustive ownership review of my Honda Accord 2.4L AT

Just last night, on the way to the airport on a chill night ride, my ear drums were assaulted by the whine of a terrible fake exhaust that sounded like it belonged to some sort of 2-stroke motorcycle. But upon locating the source of the noise, it turned out to be a [i]*******-/I]fied Accord with a V6 badge (didn't think it was the V6) zooming past. Shook my head in sorrow and dropped a metaphorical tear or two, remembering your own meticulously maintained one on this thread.

I am in exactly the same boat (car actually!). Have a wonderful 2009 Accord 2.4AT and do not want the risk of an outstation buyer not completing the transfer.

Extremely hard to let go as no other car comes close to it, especially given that it is a 2009 model!

Everything on the car still works - after 15 years

Mine ran fine without any hiccups.

In my case, the intended buyer would develop cold feet at the additional cost: on-road tax cost and re-registration itself made the proposition of buying this car unfeasible.

It may not be far from truth, that those DL, UP, or HR number plate pre-2010 luxury cars which are running in kerala -- referring to a recent post by a fellow t-bhpian--are driven by those who would not want to incurr the "on-road tax cost and re-registration" , thus no transfer of ownership as per RTO records. But that would mean if the vehicle is misused then the onus is on the owner as per RTO records.

Re: An exhaustive ownership review of my Honda Accord 2.4L AT

Being an ex-owner of an Accord V6, I feel sad to see this lovely car meet such an end.

Considering how strict they are about the rule being applied, dont folks with such cars start the selling process a little early - like 1.5-2 yrs or so ?

They do, but of you read the thread from the beginning, I was the third owner of this car and when I had bought it. The car had 5 years left. Anyways, its not about not getting a prospective buyer, its about how the set system makes its an unfeasible purchase.

Shocked to see this Sir. Please accept my heartfelt regrets. I empathize with you. I'm fortunate so far not to have seen such painful moments and only wish that I'm able to hold on to my oldies for as long as I can.

It felt such a disgrace to let go of that car. However, its been a month now and I have come to terms with the reality. I hope you read my detailed experience which was divided in chapters. I am not good in making videos and photos to inundate a write-up. I belong to old school of words doing the talking instead of pictures!

Re: An exhaustive ownership review of my Honda Accord 2.4L AT

I understand what you are feeling. I had a 2010 Civic VAT which I bought in 2015. The car was a dream to own then and I have lots of memories with it. Generally I don’t keep cars more than 2-3 years and I never kept a car more than 5 years before Civic. It was the only car that I just didn’t want to get rid of. Infact my current cars are 3 years old and another one is just 5 months old and I am contemplating when to sell one of these and buy the next set of wheels. But this feeling never came when I had the Civic. However just so that I don’t have to go through what you are feeling I sold the car little early. I sold it in the month of march and I must say I got a decent amount for it. The buyer was very impressed with the condition of the car. I never handed over the RC to the buyer and told him I will get the car transferred to which he agreed. The car is already transferred to the new buyer. Though I still miss her but I think it was wise to sell it off just at the right time.

Re: An exhaustive ownership review of my Honda Accord 2.4L AT

I transferred my 2007 Honda Accord from Delhi to Uttar Pradesh Kasganj it took me 3-4 months just to procure NOC.

My car was registered in Delhi in my friends cousin's name and I live in Aligarh that is why it took me 3-4 months just for NOC if owner is living in Delhi NOC application is easy and it's free of cost too but dalaali must be paid otherwise seeing NOC is farsighted.

Now let's come to cost of re registering the car. Normally the tax rate is 25 percent of Total road tax paid at the time of new registration of your vehicle. Registration fees is also applicable and it is variable from RTO to RTO and again dalal fees which also varies.

In my case I spend around 80 thousand rupees for re registration of my car.

I am uploading some pictures of my cars previous number and present registration number.

I hope this helps everyone.

Fantastic thread! How tough has it been to source parts? Is Honda still selling them at their service centers or do you have to source them from outside India?
