Thank you Sir! I wish I could turn back time and write this ownership report from the time I bought the car where in I could have got into more subtle details of the ownership through the years. Some instances are bound to have slipped from my mind and some details lost when summarizing 10 years into 5 posts. But thank you for the nice words.

The early 2010s was the golden era for the segment. The Jetta, Octavia, Civic, Corolla, and Elantra were all pretty amazing cars. |
So true! The design was indeed 'radically ahead' as you correctly underline and this is a testimony that something can be radical and still be beautiful; unlike some hideous designs that manufacturers have doled out in recent past in name of 'modern design'. Isn't it a wonder that despite such a design, the opinions were not polarizing.

PS: Just yesterday, I read your post on how high the reregistration tax is in JH, and despite that, you bit the bullet, and today I read this.
All the best for your next steed. |
Thank you! So, I was not the only one smitten with the console
Regarding the sale, it happened too fast for me to sink in. There was no real plan to let it go. The car just went before we could make up our mind completely. To get out of it, it will take time for sure.

Again true! This is a car with which the owner connects straight from the heart. The car was unique in so many ways that it carves a niche- both on roads and in their owner's heart.

I will keep stalking the Civic thread- and will be a participant for life there even if the car is gone for whatever little wisdom I have gained from TBHP and the car.

Life came a full circle. About a decade back, you were the young lad and my son was handing over the keys (not too willingly!!) |
Razor!! So good to see your post. So well articulated- yes indeed life came a full circle. 10 years passed like a flash!
I must thank you for the car. This was one of the better things that shaped our lives at that time. Writing this thread made me remember our meetings in Kolkata and feeling nostalgic. Though we lost touch after 2016-17 I guess but we often remember you and your son. Our best wishes to you and your family.

That car really was something else and I still miss it. It was just such a handsome design and what a hoot to drive. Thanks for penning down a review for this beauty. I’m glad you got around to it and the Forum has yet another thread with another Civic story. |
A 3GT in the garage and still taking time to get over the Civic- speaks something about the car. Would love to read your experiences. Thank you so much for the nice words.

The Civic still looks like a modern design despite its age. The interiors specially were way ahead of its times. Except the ground clearance issue which poses a challenge in some of our roads, there is very little that goes against a Civic. Knowing you personally since more than a decade now, I have been witnessing how well you keep your cars. And now I am quite envious of the new owner who just picked up such an immaculate example.
Thanks for this wonderful read. Looks like you and your family were quite smitten with this member during the entire ownership period. Wishing you all the best in finding a worthy replacement to this gem of a car. |
Hello Arunabh! Yes, I too remember the test drive! Couldn't believe that 10 years passed! Yes, ground clearance was an issue especially with pax in the rear. That is one of the rare weaker points the car had.
Regarding the replacement, it is still not finalised. Me being me, not able to find a car which can be as aesthetically pleasing as the Civic which apart from dynamics will also be a deciding factor. Currently using the Zen and wife's new i20 automatic as a stop-gap arrangement.

The love for the Civic is beautifully captured and thanks for sharing the decade long relationship with us. Lucky lad who got the beauty and wishing him the very best of drives ahead! |
Thank you Sarath. We have interacted a few times in the Civic thread and you can expect me to be there always. Your posts, along with many other's in that thread helped more than I can even remember in keeping the car in top shape. Thank you so much!

That day I didn't just have a benchmark for the car I wanted to get but also the benchmark of how car showrooms and personnel should feel like.
- One of those cars which tell what they're about the moment you look at them.
- That hurts! What rate are they going with ? Seems higher than new registration!
I have occasionally seen a silver Civic over the years, last was a WB registered one within the last 3-4 months in MECON colony so I am assuming at least one of them was yours.
Was a delightful and crisp read. The pics say a lot more than is visible.
Kudos to a great ownership and journeys
You've already made a strong statement of handling focussed cars with the Zen and the Civic, what's next ? |
It is always nice to see a fellow BHPian from Ranchi as there aren't many. Yes, I do visit the Mecon colony frequently and crossing each other is a probability, however, my car is carrying JH plate since last 2 years.
Would love to connect. Pls DM if you reside in Mecon colony.
Also a nice experience that you shared about the Honda Showroom. In fact I had a similar one with Maruti (though it was the new 800 MPFI which was launched) when the General Manager himself explained me about the new 800 in person knowing fully well that I was not the target audience. I would have been barely 18 or 19 then.
About your other question- they are charging renewal road tax @~ 6% of the invoice value even for older cars. For 5 years.

Hauz Khas neighborhood had a lot of Civics around at that time and I would find excuses to stroll around just to soak in all the beauty. I have itched and yearned for a Civic all my adult life. Unfortunately never could realise that dream but reading your post brought back fond memories and to know that there was someone else from my state/city feeling the same feelings at the same time is just remarkable. I know parting with your loved car is painful but as they say "Abhi aasman aur bhi hai".
God bless you, wish you a happy life. |
Hi Shabi! Good to learn about you especially being graduated from the same college and having a similar story. Thank you so much for your kind words and I wish the same for you. Though it is tough to beat the benchmark the Civic has set with the budget I have.

That was really tough. If I had time to think, I may not have let it go. I wish your car many more miles ahead. If you are happy with the equipment levels, then there is actually no requirement for a new car. It will be very dificult to fill the shoes of Civic.
