Hi DriveShrive,

The car seat which we have is Graco Size4me 65 Convertible bought in 2015. Its discontinued now and replaced with newer models.
12 years & 130,000 km of ownership | 2012 Honda City (3rd-Gen)-graco-car-seat.jpg

My Sister has bought one for her 1 year old daughter couple of months back. Find the link below.
https://www.firstcry.com/graco/graco...6-Months_New!!

You can go with any model from Graco, its a trusted brand and worth the investment. Ours is still in excellent condition.
These days we place the car seat in middle portion and use the Lap belt to fasten it. So that two adults can comfortably seat on either sides.

After the Euphoria of having the car restored settled down. It was time to undergo 10th year servicing of the car.

Positive experience with Joshy Krishnan his attention to detail/knowledge on cars and passion with which he carried out the work compelled me into trying his service instead of going with Honda HASS. There were no complaints with the car, however for peace of mind decided to go ahead with the service. This was going to be 1st detailed car servicing on the car outside HASS.

Below is the list of jobs which were performed on the car.
1. Brake Pad Check and Rotor Cleaning.
2. Transmission Oil Change.
3. Engine Oil Change.
4. Oil Filter Change.
5. Cabin Filter Change
6. Air Filter Change
7. Roof Beading Change.
8. Front Cowl Panel Change.

Detailed breakup of the Job:-

Reached the Garage at sharp 9.00Am. There were few other cars in queue waiting to get serviced. Mr. Shiva the owner of the Garage is an humble person who knows the trade of his business well. Took the car out for a quick ride. Had concerns on Clutch plate wear as car had run more than 1 lac Kms. As per his observation there was no need of clutch replacement at present. General servicing was recommended and car was taken into one of the bays to get it serviced.

Few Pics of the car getting ready for overhaul:-

  • Brake Pad Check and Rotor Skimming.

Once the car was up on Jacks. The first job was getting the Brake pads and Rotors inspected. On careful inspection it was decided that the rotors needed skimming to roughen the surface to increase the grip levels. Brake pads thickness was 6mm and could easily last another few thousand kilometers. No concern with Rear Brakes either as the Pads were replaced during the restoration work and the car had barely run a 1000kms after the rear pad change.

  • Final Delivery:-

Gear Lever leather cover replaced during restoration job wasn't particularly to my liking it was Grey in colour and texture was quite hard. Changed it to original Honda gear lever cover.

Great to hear that your Honda City crossed the 100K KM mark. This generation of Honda products whether its your Honda city or other offerings from the same car maker like Jazz, Civic, CRV, Accord are well worth keeping, until they drop.

Major Service for my 14 year old City at 1 lakh Kilometers

My City recently crossed the 1 lakh milestone and still runs like a charm however all these years the service was carried out at Magnum Honda, Kanakapura Road, Bangalore. Except for the last service which was at 90,000 kms was done at home using pitstop. The service done by pitstop that too at home intrigued me as to why shouldn't the car be serviced by myself and 10,000 kms later here we are!
I got the parts from HASS- Magnum Honda through their customer care and was surprisingly easier than I thought.

Firstly I wrote a mail to honda's customer care email which I found on their website. I was asked to share my VIN/Engine Number and Registered Mobile Number after that I recieved a call from the concerned person from Magnum Honda asking for the list of parts, I went to the service center to pickup the parts the next day and was asked to contact the service front desk. The process was similar to how the car was given to service expect this time it was only for counter sales of parts. The service advisor will open a new job card and list the parts on their interface so the service record is noted as counter sales and not as actual service.

Parts Purchased from Magnum Honda
-Brake Fluid
-Transmission Fluid
-Oil Filter
-AC Filter
-Air Filter

I wanted to get engine oil and coolant from Shell so I went to Shell Kanakapura Road.

- Engine oil was drained, flushed and replaced
-Oil Filter was replaced
-Coolant was drained and replaced
- Brake oil was topped up
-Air filter was changed
-AC filter was changed
- Got new 3M wipers
All of these works were carried out at Shell.

- Transmission oil was drained and changed at a known mechanic shop for a nominal price.

-Wheel Balancing and Alignment was done at Madhu's Kanakapura road

All in the whole service costed me a little over 10,000 with AC gas pending.

Kindly share pics of the cherished beauty so that other Bhpians can also drool over it.

From your experience it appears the parts were handed over without any questions. Weren't there any questions asked or any insistence to get the job done from Magnum Honda instead of selling the parts over the counter.
Tried sourcing parts from Regent Honda and Hallmark Honda. But they straight away denied sourcing any parts over the counter. Honda spares are difficult to source from Boodmo as well. Almost all parts are unavailable.

Yes, that is what surprised me as well. The whole process took about 3-4 days. Initially I wrote a mail to Honda's Customer Care and I got a reply from them asking for my car's details and a day after the last mail that I wrote to them I got a call from the concerned person from from Magnum Honda asking for the list of parts that I required went about 2 days later and a new job card was opened like how it is done for regular service but it was mentioned as counter sale of parts. Absolutely no questions asked maybe because it was through Honda India directly.
Maybe you can write a mail to their customer care and try.

Odometer needle ticked past 110000 just few days back. Since last servicing the car had run approximately 7000 Kms which included multiple outstation trips to Solapur, Pune, Raigad, Goa in addition to daily run between Home and office.
The clutch had started to feel little bit hard, but there were no slippage of gears. Suspension seemed to have got a bit hard and even small potholes were more audible inside the cabin. Other than this everything was in perfectly working condition.

List of activities identified for the servicing/check.
  • Engine Mount Checking.
  • Battery Check.
  • Drive Belt check.
  • Clutch Plate
  • Spark Plug check
  • Engine Oil change. (5W30 Grade)
  • Brake fluid replacement
  • AC cooling check.
  • Rear Suspension Struts and rubber mounts
  • Link Rods
  • Alternator Check

Had a word with Joshy Krishnan ( Trusted Advisor ) and took car to Shiva bhai for a quick check and spin on 20th July. He was of the opinion that clutch was ok and may easily last for another 15-20k easily. Once a doubt is planted in our mind, its very difficult to acknowledge and heed to advise of experts, hence i wasn't totally convinced with his feedback. Looking at my apprehension, he told that if clutch change is required, better we get original OEM part from Honda, instead of going for after market clutch, as per him the aftermarket clutch will do the job well, but wont be able to satisfy me and my mind after being used to the Honda Clutch for past 1.1 lac Kms.

Front suspensions were ok, however left rear suspension had slight leak and was recommended to be replaced. It was decided to replace both rear suspensions.
Quick check was done for the other Jobs. Car was found to be in top shape except for AC cooling. Decided to top up the gas and check.

It is difficult to lay hands on OEM Honda Parts these days. Tried multiple channels but was left disappointed. Checked with HASS for over the counter parts, which they straight away refused. Parts were also not available on Boodmo, and the retailers who had the parts with them were charging double the premium for parts. Typical Honda clutch which costs about 4000 Rs was commanding price of 7800 Rs.
Fortunately none of the parts needed immediate replacement except for the Shock absorbers which were sourced from after market.

Reached Garage on 21st July Morning. As all the checks had been done the previous day, it was clearly identified what jobs were needed. Mechanics were briefed and they got into action within few minutes. Big corporates can take a lesson of time management from such small FNGs who have to service multiple cars in a day to ensure they lay bread on tables of their family.

Had gone in for 0W40 Mobil grade of oil during previous service. However decided to stick to manufacturer recommended 5W30 grade this time around.

Complete servicing took barely 3 Hours including replacement of the Rear Shocks.
  • Engine Mount Checking were Good no extra care needed.
  • Battery was in sound condition. No replacement needed.
  • Drive Belt check. Ok at present, will try to source HASS from Boodmo
    once the part is available.
  • Clutch Plate shall last for another 15k. Will source one from Boodmo
    before next round of servicing.
  • Spark Plug were found ok. There was no drop in fuel economy and no engine misfiring.
  • Motul (5W30 Grade) Engine Oil.
  • Brake fluid was topped up.
  • Gas top up to increase AC cooling.
  • Rear Suspension Struts and rubber mounts changed.
  • Alternator was found ok.

FNG's are definitely a place to get your cars nurtured if you get the correct person who knows his trades well and is master of his craft without burning a big whole in the wallet.

Wasn't tata fined for not making parts available in the open market? Honda should sell you the parts over the counter no quesitons asked!

Hi Silver-Arrow,

I have a Aug 2017 Jazz V-CVT and need some work to be done on Suspension of the car as it tends to pass on even the minutest of the undulations in surface to the passengers in the car. Could you please help me with the contact details of Shiva bhai or any other trusted FNG so that I can get in touch with him for my requirements as going through HASS is a very time consuming and tedious process. Thanks a lot.
