Re: My Yellow Mitsubishi Cedia Sports | 13 year & 150,000 km ownership review

This is probably the only car on our roads that can pull off this Yellow. What a beauty! Takes me back to my college days where this guy had a Lancer with a huge woofer and always blasting Smack my B up on full.

Re: My Yellow Mitsubishi Cedia Sports | 13 year & 150,000 km ownership review

I wanted some input here on some work being done on my Cedia next week. Since i have completed 100100 kms, i am changing the Timing Belt and Clutch.

Is it enough to change just the Timing Belt or is it the entire system that comes with it. Any idea what the cost will be for the Timing Belt and Clutch?

Hey. Both shouldn’t cost that much. Finding the OEM parts might be difficult but you can purchase other standard parts. I’ve changed the clutch plate earlier and it wasn’t that expensive at all. Sorry that I remember the exact cost but it should be fine. All the best

Re: My Yellow Mitsubishi Cedia Sports | 13 year & 150,000 km ownership review

I also wanted to share an incident that makes Cedia special for me.

True to its pedigree, the car didn't trouble me at all for 10 years. It was and still is, a solid machine. But there was a small hitch, which became a much bigger problem. Around 2014, 4 years after I owned the car, the AC Blower motor just stopped working. The dealer said that it had to be replaced because it was imported. I had no choice but to shell out Rs 20000 for replacement in an otherwise trouble-free car. Little did I know that this was just the beginning of my troubles. Just 1 year after replacement, the blower motor again stopped working. This time I was furious and asked for a free replacement. But the dealer mentioned that it was out of warranty. So I spent the next 6 months looking for a 2nd hand motor in Bangalore. I also tried to get it repaired, but it was futile.

Finally, I got another new motor in 2016. Things were fine till 2018 when the new motor failed again. The car was now 8 years old, had a faulty AC motor, and was obsolete as it was not selling in India. A hopeless situation!

I had just one option. I knew Mitsubishi's India partner (Hindustan Motors) wouldn't help. So I spent a week searching for contacts in Mitsubishi Motors, Japan. I found the email of the Executive Chairman of Mitsubishi motors and sent him a long email. I was pretty sure that was the end of it and I had to live with it.

The next day, there was an email in my inbox from Japan. It was from Mitsubishi customer service Japan. They gave me a ticket number and promised me that my complaint will be resolved in 2 days. Within 6 hours, I received a call from HM India apologizing profusely and asking for the address to send the new motor. Mitsubishi also asked the local dealer to do a full wiring checkup of the car before installing the motor, everything free of cost. Everything was done and the car was delivered within a week.

In times such as today when car companies treat customers like shit, it is mind boggling to see a company replacing a component in an 8 year old car .

I guess that's what you call legendary customer service, something I never thought I would experience first hand and that i would never forget!

Will always be a Mitsu customer !

This is a major problem with the Cedia, shortage of parts and absence of genuine experts who care for the car rather than just try and rob the owner. Thank god for my mechanic who has been taking care of the car over the years and it has been extremely cheap to maintain. Even then there have been a few problems on and off with the car but it has been completely worth it. Also about the fact that Mitsubishi Japan had to intervene is extremely sad. You can try and get parts from the Middle East as the Cedia was very popular there. They're relatively cheap as well. Hope you have many more hassle free miles and enjoy the car. Cheers.

I don't see myself buying any of the cars or SUVs that are available in the market today that can replace the Cedia in terms of handling. The day i see a vehicle that can match the Cedia at its price point (almost impossible), i will buy.

I have also been thinking, and this is a ludicrous idea, if there is a slight possibility of adding a hybrid engine (EV Drivetrain) 5 years down the line and still use it?
That's very true. Even at a higher price bracket there aren't any cars which offer the same experience. Cars of today might have more power and have more features but they just can't match the Cedia in terms of handling, quality and sheer presence on the road.
Also that is an interesting thought about the hybrid powertrain but I wouldn't bother with that tbh. Modern engines like the 1.0 TSI, k series engines or even a NA build or turbo build on the 4g94 makes way more sense given the type of car it is.

Re: My Yellow Mitsubishi Cedia Sports | 13 year & 150,000 km ownership review

I found this website in UAE selling genuine Mitsu 7th Gen parts for 2L Lancer. It says 7th Gen which i believe is what was selling in India. Can anyone confirm if this the same Air Filter for the model sold in India?

https://partsmarket.ae/air-filter-fo...ncer-2-0-7gen/

This site has the clutch plate for Cedia. Is it reliable?

I showed the above links to my Mitsu mechanic. He wasn't impressed. He told me that he had fitted Exidy clutches at similar price in a few other cars including Cedia, but after 20k kms there were some complaints of clutch slipping. He told me for some reason the new clutches don't match the OEM clutch even though the company (Exedy) is same.

So i did some research and found an image of the original part in a photo that a Cedia owner had taken of the OEM part while replacing the clutch. The part number was mentioned as MBD005U while the clutch part mentioned in the above link is MB620005U. Also, the original part sells in Bodomo, Phillippines & Thailand at INR Rs 170000. This price matches with the price which my mechanic mentioned.

Though i feel even the above clutch might be ok, since i plan to drive this for a much longer period i have decided to go in for the OEM part.

Very true. Only the ones using Cedia as a daily driver will understand what this car can do.
It is very hard to explain the easy of getting out of tricky situations without the co-passengers knowing what happened.
Nothing comes close to the handling of the Cedia.

Hi MitSus,

Tried sending you a PM but was unable to since you are still a newbie.

Can you kindly share the contact of your mechanic that maintains your Cedia. I am currently tempted to pickup a used Cedia as a second car and would like to discuss the maintenance aspect as well as check with him if he would be willing to accompany me to inspect a few cars. Looking forward to your reply.

Hey Nimhan,

Can you recommend any good mechanic for a Cedia which I currently own? I need some help with its suspension parts replacement.
