re: 3-years with a pre-owned Honda City Diesel. EDIT: Updated 195,000 kms review

Very reliable engine. In foreign countries, Honda has a bigger version of this 1.5 DTec Engine with two turbos. They should manufacture that locally in India. That would be a hoot to drive

Yes indeed! Honda makes reliable engines just like the Toyota but sadly, they had tuned this engine for fuel efficiency and yes, Honda should bring the bigger version of Diesel engine soon, which is not gonna happen anytime soon.

re: 3-years with a pre-owned Honda City Diesel. EDIT: Updated 195,000 kms review

Update:

On Monday, I did a drive of 120 Kms to a temple, which is 50 Kms away from Hyderabad city with couple of my friends in my Honda City Diesel and got a shocking mileage of 22 Kmpl(T2T) as I was driving sedate and was cruising at 80-100 Kmph in order to get good FE.

Road conditions on which I drove were almost good but roads were bad near our destination but still managed to get good FE, all thanks to my sedate driving.

Before going to the destination, I had filled a Diesel of Rs.500 as the fuel was low, which translated to 5.66l of Diesel and traveled nearly 120 Kms and the mileage I got was,

124 Kms/5.66l= 21.9 Kmpl, which is close to 22 Kmpl.

I must say that I'm quite impressed with the mileage of my 2014 Honda City Diesel, which has run more than 1,00,000 Kms(a shade more than 1,07,500 Kms as of today).

And, a sad news.

It's been a month since I got my City fully repainted and a disaster happened today

When my mom was coming from her workplace to home in the evening, an SUV guy suddenly came in the wrong route and hit the right side quarter panel, which resulted in dents on the quarter panel.

After seeing the dent, my heart got broken and was feeling emotional as I got the car fully repainted a month ago and the disaster happened just because of that reckless SUV guy, who came in the wrong way and hit the car and fled away from the spot.

Now, I'm planning to get that dent fixed at my FNG but since I got the whole car repainted a month ago, I'm not in a mood to spend money again just for removing those small dents. But, surely will get the dents fixed once again if time permits and get the whole car polished once again along with the removal of dents.

re: 3-years with a pre-owned Honda City Diesel. EDIT: Updated 195,000 kms review

Update:

After driving in the city traffic most of the time, my Honda City Diesel had gave me an FE of 17.5 Kmpl(T2T), which I felt impressive given the car is almost 7 year old and more than 1 lakh Kms on the odo.

But, this time, the car had given worst FE for the first time in almost 4 years of ownership with the car, I got around 13.5-14 Kmpl, thanks to spirited driving in city.

BTW, the car had completed 1,08,000 Kms on the odo on Friday.

And, facing some issues like power steering became hard (but not as hard as our Innova's steering, which is hard by default), horn stops working while honking and after sometime, it works on its own and poor AC cooling, which I need to get it rectified.

re: 3-years with a pre-owned Honda City Diesel. EDIT: Updated 195,000 kms review

Updating after a long time!

The car has run just 1000 Kms after the last update!

Thanks to lockdown, the car wasn't used much and was driven within the city limits, and, that too, the car was driven at relaxation times, which our govt had implemented!

And 4 days after the lockdown in Telangana, had to take the E-pass for visiting our hometown, which is 65 Kms away from home, for some work!

And, the odo as of today is 1,09,900 Kms, which is just 100 Kms away from completing 1,10,000 Kms, which the car will complete this week and need to give my car for servicing, which is due by the end of this month!

Since the start of this month, the car has been driven around 250 Kms due to which mom started going to the office and I did few early morning drives as well with my grandfather to the hospital!

Looking forward to driving more Kms in this car after the lockdown ends here in Telangana!

The car has completed 1,10,000 Kms today and the odo as of today is 1,10,117 Kms!

And, the car had run 200 Kms today within the city outskirts due to some work and in that 200 Kms, I did 50 Kms of solo driving on ORR as it's Sunday and the beautiful weather in Hyderabad made me do so and another 150 Kms were driven by dad!

And, the MID showed an amazing figure of 21.7 Kmpl today after the drive!

re: 3-years with a pre-owned Honda City Diesel. EDIT: Updated 195,000 kms review

The car has run a shade more than 1,14,000 Kms and got it serviced a couple of weeks ago at Green Honda and got a bill of just 6.3k, which I was surprised with it since the car has run more than 1,10,000 Kms.

Apart from regular servicing, I got the AC filter and airfliter replaced as the AC wasn't cooling properly.

re: 3-years with a pre-owned Honda City Diesel. EDIT: Updated 195,000 kms review

Congratulations on your car and sharing your experience. IMO 13-14 kmpl in city is decent . I have a iDtec and it gives around this in the city. No complaints. Not sure how people extract more and I don’t want to compromise on my driving style , nor comfort ( neither too rash or conservative). I have seen the odo give me 27 kmpl on highways but that isn’t fun driving ( hypermiling ). Overall an amazing experience

I have one query, has anyone experienced replacement of driver side door handle. My service guy is quoting me 3k. Suggestions recommendations most welcome.

Updating this thread after a long time!

Forgot that I had completed 4 years of ownership with this car in the month of July. At the time of completing 4 years of ownership, we did 78k Kms (odo was around 1,13,000 Kms at that time). Till date, we did 82k Kms (present odo is a shade more than 1,17,000 Kms) and apart from minor issues like ABS warning light, which I'm planning to source it from a scrap market and AC cooling (although cooling well post the AC filter replacement, but still not satisfied with it), the car is a joy to drive.

Even after the car has run 1,17,000 Kms on the odo, the car's engine is butter smooth and gearbox still feels like a butter. The clutch of this car is not too hard as VAG Diesels and too light as Hyundai Diesels but felt decent to my taste. Remember, my car is running on 2nd set of clutch, which I got it replaced during 70k Kms service in 2019 and present set of clutch has run 45k Kms till date.

In the month of August (just few days after completing 4 years of ownership with the car), I got it serviced when the odo was at 1,13,600 Kms and I was surprised to see that I got a bill of 6.3k, which I felt reasonable for a car, which has run more than 1,10,000 Kms. Apart from regular service, I got the AC filter and airfilter replaced, which costed me extra 1k for that. One thing I felt post this service is, Honda's parts might be expensive but in terms of regular servicing, its very cheap and reasonable to maintain.

When I wanted to keep this car for sometime due to its rear seat comfort and space and FE, my cousin was/is simply pestering me to sell this car as this car has run more than 1L Kms and he simply loathes sedans as he is a SUV fanboy. He was like, sell off the City as it became old and get a C-SUV like Sonet Diesel AT as it has better GC compared to the City.

But, I never felt the need of selling this car even after the car has run more than 1L Kms on the odo as this car is running smoothly apart from few niggles and whenever I drive this car in the city traffic, I felt the need of having an AT car but resist myself sometimes from doing so. Anyway, decided that our next car will be an AT as my parents are becoming old and I felt an AT car would suffice our needs since the car will be driven within city limits and occasionally on highways.

Recently, when I was looking for the replacement for our City and, in fact, had TD'ed each and every so called C-SUVs like Sonet and Nexon within the budget of 15L as we aren't keen on another sedan due to low GC but felt rear seat comfort and space in these so called C-SUV's are poor when compared to the City. For instance, my mom had travelled in her cousin's Nexon for nearly couple of times and she was saying that the rear leg space in Nexon is very poor compared to our City. After hearing this, I felt its very hard to replace the City in terms of rear seat comfort and leg space. C-SUVs might have advantage of having more GC than a sedan, but they lack in rear seat space and comfort when compared to any other sedan or my City, which has a class leading rear seat comfort and leg space. Heck, I even thought of replacing it with a Polo GT TSI as it'll be easier to drive for mom but she straightaway rejected it saying that "too small" for her. Hence, I later felt that another City (CVT) can replace this City. But, later, we might have to compromise the rear seat comfort and leg space for higher GC as our road conditions are becoming worse day by day.

And, since last lockdown during the first wave of Covid in 2020, the car has been used more and did close to 30k Kms since mid-May 2020 and the car is doing 2000 Kms per month these days as my dad is preferring to take this car over our other car, Innova.

Overall, I can say that we are happy with this car as it impressed us a lot in terms of rear seat comfort and leg space, FE, service costs but there are few disappointments like average build quality but never felt unsafe despite this car having 2 airbags and ABS but misses on other safety features like ESP, TC, VSM and extra airbags and few niggles.

Ciao until next update!

re: 3-years with a pre-owned Honda City Diesel. EDIT: Updated 195,000 kms review

Completed 1,20,000 Kms on the odo today. We bought this car when the odo was at 35000 Kms and in 4.3 years of ownership, we did 85000 Kms. And, the car has run 3000 Kms since the last update.

Recently, we did a 550 Kms trip to Vijayawada in this car and I was amazed with the comfort levels of this car and 3 people can seat comfortably without any hassles.

re: 3-years with a pre-owned Honda City Diesel. EDIT: Updated 195,000 kms review

Updating this thread after a long time!

After lots of deliberations, got the suspension overhaul done for this car at Honda ASC and along with that, the car got the new brake discs and pads as well as 130k Kms service done.

The suspension overhaul had costed me 46k while the brake discs and pads had costed me 8k.

Btw, the car had crossed 135k Kms a day before giving the car for service. Since we had sold off our Innova a month ago, we are left with this car now though we had booked a new car, which is expected to be delivered soon.

Do you see black smoke when you suddenly throttle for overtaking on 2nd or 3rd gear ?
Is it normal for the diesel engine to throw smoke ?

re: 3-years with a pre-owned Honda City Diesel. EDIT: Updated 195,000 kms review

Updating this thread after a long time.

My City iDTEC has just completed 150k Kms on the odo this weekend and in mid-Nov 22, got the car restored as we had decided to retain this car for sometime by getting the car repainted again at Honda ASC this time as my FNG painter guy had royally screwed my car when I gave the car to him last time in 2021 and the finish was decent except for few blemishes though got it rectified from them itself.

And, along with painting and denting, got the new headlights as previous ones were faded as well as taillights and also, got the car serviced as well at 145k Kms in Dec 22 at Honda ASC itself and got the mounts replaced as well as oil seals and new underbody guard as the old one was damaged.

The car has run 5000 Kms in a month, which is the highest ever running for this car, post service and despite having another car at home (VW Taigun 1L TSI Topline MT, which we are planning to sell it off soon), my folks prefer taking the City due to the comfort and space it offers and mileage it gives (thanks to iDTEC engine, which is no more in production).

Next is to replace the tyres as they are at the EOL now and this time, considering Continental UC6 as well as MRF Perfinza in same size which the car is running on now as well as new upholstery and Android HU.

And, also I'd be getting the timing kit replaced during next service, which is due in another 5000 Kms.
