The DIESEL experience! Swift VDi

Hey
The Tire Pressure on Stock tires is 36psi front and 33psi rear. Car tends to be a bit bumpy but I get a good pickup and FE due to it. Are the others following these specifications religiously ? Has anyone tried any experiments ?

I checked with 2-3 different Maruti workshops / dealers and all of them gave me mixed opinions. I called Maruti 1 -800 number ( the mothership) and they have no idea.

Took to trial and error and I think I will stick to premium. I put HP regular somewhere near Taloja MIDC on way to Pune and half way down the expressway she started grunting like a pig

Well its better to stick to regular, on ExtraMile its smoking alot, acclerate and the smoke comes out like crazy, infact its visible in rear view mirror, my white car became totally black from behind with the black smoke getting stuck on the bumper. Will go for premium once i install the green air filter which i have lying with me.

Tyre pressure i am using on 195/60/15 is 34F and 32R

I follow it. Car feels faster at recommended pressure.

My car doens't emit black smoke. Is something wrong with the fuel you use ?

Got my VDI this sunday.So far so good,learning to live with the car and the way it behaves!!
Few points that i would love to clarify:-
** there were no rear fog lamp
** there is no rear wiper
where as swift brochure mentioned it as standard.
would u plz clarify on this?

Rear fog lamp - YES

Rear wiper - Not in the diesel. only present in zXi

I tried extramile for the first time. I did get lot of smoke and drop in power while pressing accelarator (More than 50%) for fast accelaration. This I felt multiple times. In my next refill I will switch back to regular diesel. Is IOC regular OK?

Its there lower down on the rear bumper the rear fogs.

this can be switched on only when the headlight is on - the switch for this is on the headlight switch stalk, as a little knob that has to be twisted.

Yes, The RED one in color, and the control is a ring on your head light switch knob.

I too use IOC, with Xtramile the car was a bit pepier but i had increased the performance mode on the petes box as well, now will switch back to regular and will tell the difference.

So far best brew in Bangalore is IOC regular for my car. Super smooth, very faint trace of smoke, good FE and decent pick up. Extramile didnt induce any difference in my car so didnt bother with spending more. Not bothering on experimenting further for now.

Air pressure atleast 34 F and 32 R, i was running 35 F and 33 R since the gas station gauge was off by 1 psi i guess, so my set up is now 35 and 33 psi real time readings.

Thanks for clearing the doubts!!One more thing My car(VDI) slogs a lot in mountains have to drive in 2 n 3 gear in same area my maruti 800 crosses in 4 gear easily and the mountain area is not too steep at all.
Secondly i am facing some problem in engaging reverse gear it's not as smooth as the fwd gears are!!!!

You will not have these complaints after driving 1000Km. It is only a question of used to your car. I’m sure you will drive the same roads in 4th or even 5th gear comfortably. Reverse Gear I’m not found any difficulties, but gearshift also will get smoothen over the time.

@ Gill: Different cars, different gear ratios and power factor, so one has to adjust to that. Yday i was rejuvenating my mom n laws mpfi zen and after Diesel Vdi that car was really an experience.

So first point there is no escape, you will get adjusted. Second point, well the car will get adjusted soon also.
