re: They don't make them like they used to - My 1st gen Ford Figo 1.4L TDCi. EDIT: Sold! A long pending update-
1. The 150k KMs mark was recently crossed and the car is performing really well.
2. The steering rack ends were replaced in Jan as I found some play and didn’t want to risk tyre wear. Decided to replaced the stabiliser link too.
3. The wiper nozzle has been trouble since a long time, finally found the original nozzle and connecting T-pipe.
4. The AC recently gave some trouble and upon leakage testing, A leak was found in the AC gas pipe. It was repaired and gas refilled. Have used the car for 500 KMs since then and the cooling is much better.
5. Our Figo was recently featured in the Evo India’s Gone but not forgotten- Ford Special.
Considering the current usage of the car, I have no plans of selling it. The low end is helpful in the city & my family finds it comfortable thanks to the spacious interiors. The NVH could have been better, better outright performance & rear headrests could have made it a better deal. I maybe an exception who is equally fond of the new 1.5 TDCi Figo. I would love to replace the current Figo with the newer one whenever the times comes. Yes it has it’s shortcomings but so does my current Figo. My brother has been using it for office commute which is a 110 KM round trip and since I have moved to 5w40, he finds the NVH slightly better. I found a marginal difference after using the xtragreen diesel. Nothing exceptional. Our Figo is old and crude, it doesn’t have the bling or features of modern day hatchbacks but it’s well built, has exceptional drivability and is a proper workhorse.
