Hi Arun, When I read about the incident, I was first reminded of the earlier unfortunate incident which happened on the same road with your earlier car. Bikers crossing over is a constant risk around this side and its just a matter of time when one ends up in a tricky situation. Glad that the damage was limited and also no one was injured. |

| Starter Motor Issue / Drive from Bangalore to Coimbatore Via Ooty / ODO @ 1,70,000 Kms Starter Motor Issue: Recently while starting the car, I was getting a squeaking/grinding noise at the end. The noise was a bit bad. So, I took it to PPS motors and they immediately confirmed that its an issue with the starter motor. They asked me to leave the car at the service center as this issue can damage the flywheel too. Plan was to remove the starter motor and send it to the vendor to check and repair if possible. After a day they updated me that starter motor has been overhauled and the issue is fixed. Next day I went and took the delivery and observed that all is fine. This service costed me 14K as against 58K which is the cost of the starter motor for Compass 4x4. The starter motor is cheaper for the 4x2 variants. Drive from Bangalore to Coimbatore Via Ooty: I was bored of the Salem – Coimbatore route as I have taken this route umpteen times. So, for this drive I decided to take a different one. The best alternate is to take the Mysore – Chamarajanagar – Dhimbham OR Mysore – Kanakapura – Kollegal – Germalam – Dhimbham route and I decided to do the one via Mysore. Its long time since I took the Dhimbham route. As planned, I started at 4am with less traffic on the NICE road and then on the Mysore expressway, too. With no traffic around, it is really a challenge to maintain 100Kmph speed on this road. When I got closer to Mysore, I changed my plan and decided to take the Mysore – Gundlupete – Masinagudi – Kalhatty – Ooty route as Kalhatty ghats was in my to-do list since long. There was not much traffic on the Gundlupete route too however there were random bad patches/speed breakers which slowed me down. The first traffic that I encountered was at the TN check-post. It was a long queue as they were checking all the vehicles. When it came to my chance, they asked me for hotel booking details in Ooty. Since my destination was Coimbatore, I didn’t have any booking. They checked the complete vehicle before letting me go. The forest route was scenic but dry due to hot weather. This route will be awesome during monsoon season. I loved the Kalhatty ghat section. It is very steep and super fun to drive. I spotted many wild animals including elephants and deer at multiple locations but couldn’t click proper pics as I was driving solo. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Ooty: I reached Ooty by 8:30 am, it took only 4 hours and 30 mins despite the long wait at the border. So, Ooty has come more closer to Bangalore after the Mysore Expressway ![]() Ooty really didn’t give me any feel of a mountain location. The sun was out early and the weather was warm. It kind of looked like a concrete jungle to me. Drive details till Ooty. ![]() I didn’t do any sight seeing, I just crossed the town and stopped at a bakery for breakfast. After having some hot delicious puffs, I got some varkey for home and started driving towards Coimbatore. From here the traffic was heavier and I reached Coimbatore around 11:30am. Overall, it took me 7 hours and 30mins including the stop at the border and the breakfast stop. This route is interesting and fun to drive when compared to Salem route. Dhimbham route is 40Kms shorter and another good alternate route to Coimbatore. My return to Bangalore was via the boring Salem route. I didn’t take any pics of Scarlett during the Ooty drive. Here are two pics taken during a drive to Kasargod. ![]() ![]() I have started seeing more EVs on the highway these days, 3 EVs in one click. ![]() Meanwhile the ODO has crossed 1,70,000 Kms ![]() ![]() Last edited by arun_josie : 14th March 2025 at 11:33. |

| 6 Years Ownership Update and ODO @ 1,71,077 Kms 6 Years Ownership Update and ODO @ 1,71,077 Kms: One more year has passed and now I have entered the 7th year ownership of Scarlett. It has been an excellent experience so far with this beautiful machine and I have no complaints or regrets. It is here to stay longer with us, and I don’t have any plans to let go of this wonderful machine. The only hiccup so far has been the recent accident. I haven’t found any issues with the drive or handling after this but there is a random rattle issue, and it has been difficult to find the source of this issue so far. Its not serious enough that I’m bothered about it. Regarding the long drives, there were no major drives during the past one year. Our annual monsoon drive with friends didn’t happen nor any family trip. Most of my drives were to Chennai and Kanyakumari/Nagercoil. ![]() Below are the service history and other data that I have captured so far, Service History: ![]() All the services were done at PPS/MPS motors which is located on the Hosur road near Electronic city. I have never missed any service schedule deadlines and in fact at times the service was done well in advance. They have not disappointed me so far. The accident repair was done at ARAS Jeep, Madurai. Usage Pattern ![]() Annual Usage ![]() Days taken for every 5K Kms ![]() Tyre replacement history and FE for each of those tyres: Firestone: This was the stock tyre and it was not great except that it gave a life of 50K Kms. Fuel efficiency of Scarlett with these tyres: 13.89 Kmpl Yokohama Earth1: Firestone was replaced with Yokohama Earth1 @ 51,205 Kms. This is the best of the lot when it comes to comfort and braking. But the performance started dropping after 30K Kms and it also became noisier. Fuel efficiency of Scarlett with these tyres: 14.44 Kmpl GoodYear Wrangler AT SilentTrac: This replaced the Yokos @ 99,111 Kms. These tyres are very good on the bad roads. It’s harder than Yokohama Earth1. Braking distance was not as good as the Yokohama Earth1 Fuel efficiency of Scarlett with these tyres: 14.27 Kmpl Continental AX6: On the highways this feels better than the previous GoodYears. When it comes to the comfort and the noise on cement roads, these tyres are way ahead of the GoodYear tyres. I could feel the difference in braking as well, the grip is much better. GoodYears are good for mild off-roading and on bad roads too. I have not tried any off-roading on the continentals so far. Fuel efficiency of Scarlett during these tyres: 14.79 Kmpl (this is for the 5K Kms done so far) ![]() Brake Pads(Front): On an average I am getting a life of around 50K Kms on the front brake pads. 1st set replaced @ 51,205 Kms 2nd set replaced @ 1,01,884 Kms 3rd set replaced @ 1,65,119 Kms Brake Pads(Rear): The rear one has not been replaced yet. Brake Disc: 1st set replaced @ 1,01,884 Kms Wheel lugnuts: It’s a known issue with these cap-type lug nuts that if the cap thread gets misaligned then it is difficult to remove it. Whenever the tyres were removed, I was having issue with atleast 2-3 nuts. So, I got the complete set replaced with the normal nuts @ 1,01,884 Kms. Wheel Alignment/Balancing: All WA/WB has been done at Madhus except once or twice when I got it done at PPS. I normally get it done every 5-7K Kms but there have been a few misses and at times it has gone upto 10-11K too. ![]() Wiper: Wipers were replaced at 68,853 Kms (the OEMs are very expensive (closed to 5K), so replaced with Bosch wipers which costs around 900/-). These Bosch wipers are flimsy and had to be replaced again @88,699 Kms and @1,19,668 Kms. @1,19,668 Kms, I went back to the OEM one. OEM is very expensive, but the quality of these wipers are leagues ahead and gives a better life. The rear wipers have been replaced once. Battery: Looks like it is designed to die every two years ![]() 1. The stock Exide battery - 2 years and 26 days (62,930 Kms) 2. The replaced Amaron battery - 2 years and 25 days (54,434 Kms), this was replaced under warranty. I thought Amaron will last longer than Exide, but it fell short by one day. Based on the history, I am in the replacement zone now. Timing Belt: Set 1: Timing belt was a periodic replacement at 75K Kms. As per the technician, it was in good condition, but I got it replaced to keep the Warranty/Extended Warranty intact. Set 2: This was replaced at 1,63,490 Kms as Jeep increased the replacement schedule to 90K Kms. Clutch/Flywheel: I got this replaced @ 1,41,500 Kms. I didn’t face any issues except for the hardness. But I still went ahead and replaced the clutch along with the flywheel. Engine Mounts: C-Mount was replaced at 1,19,668 Kms Transmission Mount was replaced at 1,41,500 Kms Parts replaced during the accidental damage
Since the right-side suspension parts were replaced, I asked them to replace the same parts on the left side as well. It didn’t make sense to hold these parts on the left side as they had never been replaced till now. And few other works involved which was not part of the accident repair.
Recently while starting the car, I was getting a squeaking/grinding noise at the end. The noise was quite bad. So, I took it to PPS motors and they immediately confirmed that it’s an issue with the starter motor. They asked me to leave the car at the service center as this issue can damage the flywheel too. Plan was to remove the starter motor and send it to the vendor to check and repair if possible. After a day they updated me that the starter motor has been overhauled, and the issue is fixed. Next day I went and took the delivery and observed that all is fine. This service cost me 14K as against 58K which is the cost of the starter motor for Compass 4x4. The starter motor is cheaper for the 4x2 variants. Front Windscreen: This was replaced at around 34K Kms. It was due to a stone hit/crack on the highway and had to get it replaced by claiming the insurance. I got unlucky the second time with another stone hit few days back. It happened on the NICE road. The hit was quite loud this time. I’m yet to get the windshield replaced. ![]() TPMS – Sensairy: Its 4 years and 6 months since I got this fitted. Till date, I have replaced all of them at least once as they stopped working at different timelines. Fuel Efficiency: The average fuel efficiency till date is 14.28 Kmpl. If you show enough patience while driving on the highway, this engine can easily give you 18-20Kmpl+. In city driving conditions, I get around 10-12 Kmpl ![]() Overall Fuel Efficiency: Currently this is at 14.28 Kmpl ![]() Fuel Preference: I go for the standard fuel and prefer BPCL than others. In between I switched to IOCL for XtraGreen diesel which helped to up the fuel efficiency by a small margin but, availability on the highway was an issue. So, I moved back to BPCL. ![]() Fuel Price range during this ownership so far ![]() Other details on Fuel efficiency ![]() Some random clicks of Scarlett ![]() ![]() ![]() That’s it for now. Looking forward to many more happy and safe miles with Scarlett. Last edited by arun_josie : 6th April 2025 at 23:31. |

| Re: 6 Years Ownership Update and ODO @ 1,71,077 Kms I am amazed to see such an in-depth record-keeping of vehicle maintenance, refueling, services, replacements and what not. This is remarkable and even more worthy because of the consistency with which it has been done over 7 years which is not a short period at all. The insights are amazing based on the gold-mine of 7 years of data you've maintained. I love being on TeamBHP and love more when I see posts from fellow BHPians but it feels privileged to witness such a post ever. This is one such post which I will keep coming back to see again and again for references, checks and most importantly whenever I wanna feel overwhelmed with awesomeness! ![]() Well done, Arun! ![]() Mods: this post deservers a separate thread altogether. However, what surprised me about your ownership is your frugal service cost. I have had my first free service and my second paid service at 5K and 15K, which cost me 8790 and 25079 respectively. I'll spare you the horror stories of back and forth, and final negotiations, but the initial estimates for these services sent to me by Landmark Noida were 15000 (for a free labor service, which was reduced further as I had a free wheel balancing voucher from the extended warranty pack), and 41000(Yes, for a 15K service that I had done at 13000 km)! ![]() 5K Kms Service Estimate for approx. 15000! This is when the labour is free. And not many parts to be replaced. ![]() Dialled down to 25K after sacrificing a day and half a litre of blood. What is baffling is the coercion to nullify the extended warranty packs in order to impose extra charges. I was told that it is mandatory for my sunroof greasing to be done at INR 4000, wheel balancing and alignment at another INR 3000, and to replace the spark plug every 15,000 km for a cost of 8,000 plus labor. I felt cheated and even escalated the issue by writing to Landmark and Stellantis, but received the attached response. I assumed this might apply to all owners, as they were bold enough to put it in writing, but I guess I was wrong. ![]() Email from Landmark after removing stellantis email ID Aside from this, my initial experience in the first month gave me a glimpse of the service challenges ahead. I clearly had a manufacturing defect in the silver plastic lining on the speakers, as the passenger side trim became brittle and came off first, followed by the driver side door. Honestly, it wasn't a big deal since it doesn't affect functionality, but my request for a replacement was denied, cited as external damage. I tried explaining that it is highly unlikely for the plastic to clip on both doors at similar times if it was inflicted damage, but they couldn't care less. I've been driving like that. ![]() Passenger side door ![]() Driver side door. Notice the small crack developing on bottom left side of the remaining clip that'll give you an idea how crack were developing themselves and not due to induced force. The car feels like a dream on highways and long stretches, although mine being turbo petrol does leave me wanting during city drives. I purchased a year early, before the Diesel 2WD AT was offered. I usually keep cars for a long time- 9 to 10 years- but the service experiences so far are scary enough to make me consider switching after I complete the 5-year extended warranty. | |

I know I would be repeating what others have said, but your post deserves this accolade - Wow, just wow for the level of detailed data you have been able to keep through the ownership period. I struggle to even remember keying in fuel info in an app every time I fuel and finally I have given up. Coming to the vehicle, great to see a well kept compass taking care of you for so many kms. It speaks a lot about the owners' ability to take care of the vehicle and surely about how well the compass was built. In all honesty, keeping all Stellantis tantrums and problems aside, Compass was (if not still) a great family car, well put together, drove well, looked nice and aged graciously, just currently priced too high. Shame that the brand just lost its way for the last many years. Reminds me of my ownership of another great product, albeit from a different brand, the Ecosport, for whatever little it stayed with me. Kudos again for maintaining the vehicle so well. Wish you many more troublefree miles. |
