I had put new front rotors when I changed pads last time. Rear rotors were in good shape and there was no point changing it. I install new rotors or skim them only if it's really needed. If the surface is smooth to touch, I don't bother.

Yep, if the surface is smooth the rotors can be reused. Resurface the parts if scored or with uneven surfaces. Warped rotors have to be replaced.

In fact I could have had the rear rotors resurfaced but chose not to because new Bosch rear discs were only about Rs 2200 each with shipping.

Yes, exactly what I followed . First time I had resurfaced the rotors, next time got all new rotors and pads. As I said before I change rotors only if it's really required.

re: My Maruti S-Cross 1.6L Alpha : Stage 3 Wolf (~200 HP / 420 NM). EDIT : 5 years & 72,000 km up!

I have both SX4 and S-Cross. They weigh almost same. But, the braking is way better in SX4 even without rear discs. Front brake parts could be swapped with each other. I couldn't understand why SX4 still had better braking. Guess I found the answer now .

The brake booster looks little bigger in SX4. It is also imported Bosch unit and costs close to 15k. S-Cross has little smaller brake booster, localised and priced at Rs. 2200. Master cylinder is also imported and much more expensive in SX4. If it is possible to swap the parts, I don't mind spending close to 30k for better braking in S-Cross.

SX4 : Brake booster

S-Cross : Brake booster
https://boodmo.com/catalog/part-boos...aster-6770066/

S-Cross actually felt like downgrade to me in terms of braking, handling, space and ride quality compared to SX4. 1.6 MJD was the only reason to get this car and I don't regret it.

No comment on space and braking.

On handling and ride quality, the S Cross should demolish the SX4. Quite surprised that it is the opposite in your observation.

The SX4 to me felt a little nervous at speed. The S Cross masks speed, has a chassis that is more communicative (very similar platform though) for the driver and also rides really well. The highway manners are almost impeccable. The overall design and height of the SX4 meant it rolled a bit too. Before the S Cross, it was the SX4 that was probably the most planted car in the Maruti Suzuki stable. The S Scross in my books has the best ride and handling of any Suzuki sold in our market (aside the Swift).

However; your observations will be more accurate than mine as you own both cars. I have spent only a few hours in both.

The difference in ride quality could be noticed immediately. S-Cross feels harsh at low speeds on bad roads. SX4 is much more comfortable here. Both the cars have good ride as the speeds increase.

Regarding handling, they feel very similar until you push to the limits. Both the cars have 180 mm GC and 205/60 R16 tyres. I find that SX4 is slightly better, this car is known for good handling across the globe .

Which version of SX4 did you drive? 2007-2009 petrol models had 190 mm GC and softer front suspension. My car is SX4 diesel with 180 mm GC, slightly heavier than petrol and stiffer front suspension.

Yes; it was a 2007-2008 version, 1.6l, non VVT but still a very grunty motor though a little coarse in its engine note at times.

I like the SX4. I believe the SX4 and S Cross has a certain quality to their ride that no other Suzuki had. The weight probably helps. However; after driving the S Scross, this really was for me, the best handling Suzuki.

My SX4 is undergoing repairs at service centre. Picked up S-Cross for this week. It's been quite some time since I drove the car.

I couldn't resist timing the car with my new Dragy and got an impressive 0-100 timing of 8.85 seconds. This is with old Falken tyres and wet roads.

I also drove around 100 km, late night . Kasaragod to Manipal. It was fun. The way this car performs is so addictive. The roads were empty and I got around 18 kmpl.

40k kms officially done on ODO!
My Maruti S-Cross 1.6L Alpha | Stage 3 Wolf (202 HP / 438 Nm) | EDIT : Sold - Pg 61-img_20180723_125716.jpg
It took 2 years and 2 months to complete 40k kms. The car had run only 300 km in last 2 months (200 km done in last week ).

It's time for service. Service manager adviced me not to use non Maruti approved oil. If there is any issue with engine, Maruti team do analyse the oil samples. They might simply blame it on different spec / grade engine oil. I am confused about using Liqui Moly ceratec also, I know it would be good.. Just wish that my warranty was officially over .

For things like Engine Oil, stick to OE recommended specs till the Warranty or Extended Warranty gets over.

My first experiment with Mobil1 Delvac was only after the EW was over. Prior to that I always used Shell MGDO supplied at the ASC for every oil change.

All this despite of knowing folks at the ASC very well. Heck, they still mention in comments during service in remarks section that I am using 'Outside fitted Horn, Outside fitted Fog Lamps' . Even when I changed oil to Mobil1 they mentioned 'Oil customer got from outside'. So I believe none of the ASCs want to be at receiving end knowing how Maruti rips them apart in case a customer raises an issue and the TSM comes into picture.

I think it is always better to be safe than sorry, a classic one but holds good when it comes to Engine Oils and the blame game later if something goes wrong. You might say you know higher ups but you never know when the blame will be shifted on you when things go wrong. An ASC wont take such a risk to cover up for one customer.

Very true! If you see all the bills which I posted here on this thread, there are mentions like after market fog lamps, local brake pads etc .

Knowing the Manager, SA, GM etc etc very well and thinking that warranty would be safe is just Stupid. Yes, they could help you to some extent. As I said before, my friendly Maruti dealer rightly advised me not to use non Maruti approved oil and explained the consequences.

re: My Maruti S-Cross 1.6L Alpha : Stage 3 Wolf (~200 HP / 420 NM). EDIT : 5 years & 72,000 km up!

I am planning to get the 40k kms service done this week. I have noticed that suspension action has reduced, rear feels lot more stiffer. I need to get it checked properly and escalate to Maruti, if needed.

I have decided to stick to Maruti engine oil and not use Ceratec. But I would be using these products from Liqui Moly, bought it from Amazon .

S-Cross 1.6 has gear oil change interval of 1.6 lakhs km. Not sure if I need to change gear oil and add the liqui moly additive. Mostly, I will just add it to the old oil itself. Engine flush is also good. Happy with the results in my SX4, hope it works the same way in S-Cross.

The car was resting in our godown and not at all used since last 3 weeks. I got to see the car today and this was the condition of engine bay.

I have owned M800 for full 15 years and now the proud owner of SX4 Zxi VVT for more than 7 years.

Such good has been the reliability and low maintenance cost that the words like "reliability of Toyota" etc. make no impact on me.

Happy motoring. You have been putting good posts across the forum.

40k KM Service Done!

I got the car serviced today at my regular service centre. Total bill was Rs. 7833. Service cost of Maruti is not really high, if we follow only the jobs mentioned on user manual.

I provided Liqui Moly engine flush and gear oil additive. Service guys used the same.

All the filters were changed along with engine coolant. I did not change the brake fluid as I had done brake bleeding and new fluid was put in recently (during rear brake pads change).

The mechanic noticed some abnormal sound from steering rack. They adjusted the steering damper for now.

I also complained about stiffer rear suspension. We did test the car on bad roads and service guys did acknowledge the stiffness. But, the rear shocks looked fine on inspection. There was no sound, oil leak and even the action was fine. We are suspecting the tyres now. I had put old tyres from my SX4.

The car was delivered to me in 5 hours. Happy with the service.
