People don't even dream it but you do it. Hats off. I strongly suggest to hire people and shoot a series of documentaries on GG. I am sure the views would be in millions.

I think this must be one of the best kept Maruti 800s in the whole of India. Maruti or Suzuki must give you a special prize/honourable mention for keeping this tiny 800 in ship shape for so long. I am also amazed at the parts availability of Suzuki, this one is a long discontinued model and yet parts are relatively easy to get hold of. Congrats once again on the major overhaul and really appreciate your patience and efforts to keep both your cars in top condition! Keep up the real good work!

Always a delight to read about GG
No one would've even dreamt about acquiring parts from japan for a 23yo budget car and you did it. Honestly no car is luckier than GG in whole world.

Long live GG

This nothing short of amazing. Glad you went all out and found the hard-to-find parts from Japan. Would it be possible for you to share how you went about obtaining parts from Japan? Did you use a specific website? Some importer? Or just got them yourself from there.

I use sites like Megazip, Ebay, Yahoo auctions, Amazon etc to source Japanese parts. Sometimes it's shipped by them, sometimes carried by friends.

Re: The love of my life - A 2000 Maruti 800 DX 5-Speed. EDIT: Gets export model features on Pg 27

Hello Shashi, this is my favourite thread this forum. Hats off to you for keeping GG in top shape for all these years. I too picked up a 2002 5 Speed in 2022. I was actually planning to get a zen but after reading your thread I decided to get a M800 5 speed instead. The car was in a bit of rough shape when I picked her up. I fixed the issues temporarily then and now Im aiming for a full Restoration. Currently car is at the electrician for reverting the whole wiring to factory condition. It was too messed up due to the music system and fancy lights installed by the previous owner. Now I'm planning to get the Instrument console from the Riviera Red special edition as that looks better than the type-II cluster that 5 speeders came with. Will the change affect the functionality in anyway?

Thanks in advance

5 speeds got 3 types of Speedo console: All black, one with white/grey background and then the limited edition ones.

I believe yours came with white background. Regarding functionality, there won't be any issue. For those cars having Black background, they had separate parking and low brake oil indications earlier, in later models, it was clubbed to just one indication in both cases.

Regards,
Shashi

PS: I too picked up one of these Rivera Edition speedo in 2019 just for the sake of collecting, and it looks great at Night, not so much during day.

My car came with all black speedo. I came across the Rivera edition console on boodmo which I think will match with my Ruby red car better. Also I'm planning to get old VW/Porsche style tartan plaid seat covers in similar red colour. I think the red meter console will look better in cohesion when completed.

Re: The love of my life - A 2000 Maruti 800 DX 5-Speed. EDIT: Gets export model features on Pg 27

Hey guys! Hope you are all doing well . I just had a question. I am a college student who is planning to buy a used vehicle to get around the city and sometimes on the highways. Do you think a M800 would be good for this purpose or should I look for any other vehicles ?

I have found a 5-speed model for 1.15 lakh in Bangalore and it seems pretty well-maintained. My budget is 2 lakh rupees which is the maximum.

Thanks for the help in advance

Re: The love of my life - A 2000 Maruti 800 DX 5-Speed. EDIT: Gets export model features on Pg 27

Hello Leoshashi,
This is the post that made me sign up for t-bhp & glad that I did.
4 Months(because PG entrance exam) later I plan to restore my late mother's 1998 Maruti 800 Std 2nd gen type 2(color is the same one that you sir had first booked Milky white before getting the well known and loved golden goose).

I had a few queries -
The rear windshield broken(construction beside my home) and few parts need replacing.
1) Boodmo's selling OEM windshield any experience in ordering glass parts from online.
Did they arrive safely?
2) There are rust spots all around panels edges but panels itself appear fine. I have planned to cover it up with Car cover till I take up for restoration.
I've read posts stating against it as it holds up moisture and worsens rusting. My city is a hot & dry area.
Should I cover it or not?

Thanks,
Regards Milky_white

Happy 25th Birthday to the reliable Golden Goose!

May she continue to keep munching more and more miles!

Congratulations Shashi!

The only downside of owning a 5S 800 is lack of spares availability. OEM spares in most cases are next to impossible to get. Something as basic as a radiator is discontinued now. Aftermarket support is decent.

1. Yes no issue in ordering windshield online from Boodmo. Worst case if it comes damaged, report to them within 24 hours of receiving the product and you'll receive full refund.

2. Any kind of moisture retention will accelerate rusting. If the metal area is covered in mud/leaves and it's able to hold moisture, it will rust. Try to park it in a shade if possible.

Thanks a lot. Unfortunately my GrandMa died few days before GG's 25th birthday, hence there was no celebration this time.

Update: GGs 25th Year MVI inspection happened yesterday. Moreover we are shifting the RTO from Patna to Ranchi, while retaining the registration number. The MVI was pleasantly surprised after seeing GG's condition.

- Sorry for your loss.
- I can imagine the MVI's disbelief Ideally Ranchi RTO should host a felicitation ceremony for GG.
