There are 7 dummy switch points in Type 1 800's dashboard, where as Type 2 has 5 of them(including two on the black speedo console).

Export model 800s had four switches for some standard extras like:
1. Rear wiper switch
2. Rear wash switch
3. Rear defogger
4. Rear fog lamp

This is how the LHD model's dash looked. They never got the type 2 dashboard. Look at the plethora of switches(under the LHS vent), where we get only dummy holes.

re: The love of my life - A 2000 Maruti 800 DX 5-Speed. EDIT: Gets export model features on Pg 27

Happened to travel in a colleague's 1998 model 4 speed Maruti 800 today.

On the dash, at the space indicated below, there is another storage space with a lid.

Leoshashi's car - reference picture

A clearer picture - colleague's car

The same opens to reveal this - akin to the smartphone dock found in Ecosport. A pretty useful storage space for knickknacks, coins etc.

@Leoshashi, can you please post a picture of your dashboard showing this particular place. Is this a common feature across all generations of the 800?

Thanks.

Yes there is a storage space, but it cannot be compared to the smartphone dock found in Fords.

Its good enough for small nick-nacks. I'll soon post a clear pic from my car.

That storage has been there since 1997(when Type 2 800 was launched) and remained upto 2014 till the production stopped.

Prior to that, the type1 800s had a flat dash, somewhat similar in shape what I have posted above(LHD car's dashboard).

Shashi

Of course. No smart phones then - hence not a smart phone dock . Was just drawing a vague comparision .

Had seen an old 800 - the original Japanese engine one. Didn't seem to remember this storage space (not sure though). Hence the question.

Thanks again.

Couldn't use Liqui Moly for our Brezza. After telling the service center that I want a Mobil 1 engine oil they agreed. The manager said that 0w40 will be the oil grade available. No warranty issues will happen as the oil will be procured by them and replaced in my presence. I've read good reviews for the oil. Do you think using a 0w40 will improve my mileage as its a synthetic oil or is the mileage going to decrease as its a SAE 40 vs SAE30 that comes factory filled?

Buddy, don't think so much. Use whatever is mentioned in the owners manual. Never deviate from those recommendations and grade. The manufacturer knows the car and engine better than anyone else.

Let me chime in here and say selecting 0W-40 over xW-30 will have a minor difference in mileage probably in fractions of a km/litre, all other things being equal. If that is important from your POV, then go in for a xW-30 oil. Ah yes, if you are switching from mineral oil to synthetic you will notice a difference in the engine, it runs smoother and revs easier. Better engine oil DOES make a difference.

As mentioned in the Synthetic oils thread please stick with whatever Maruti recommends if only for the sake of the warranty. After the warranty has expired then you may chose to select some other oil. That said, I always believe the car manufacturer knows the engine best. Check the manual for the ambient temperature v/s viscosity & API recommendations.

The brand of oil or type (synthetic/mineral) are not as important as the grade and API classification.

The Golden goose completes 17 years of her existence. Happy Birthday

This year, I haven't been able to celebrate her birthday in the way that I used to(cake, candles, ribbon etc), still I promise that the celebrations will take place in a week or two. Till then, enjoy the pictures of the seventeen year old.

One more year and your GG will be legally major! Your car is an icon and an inspiration. It's not surprising that you love the car; what is special is the emotion it evokes in others.

In the accidents thread, while talking about Maruti Automobiles and Mr. Dhiraj, I committed a cardinal sin - I inadvertantly called your Long Term Ownership report a restoration thread. And Bhpian sumitsinha0280 had this to say:

Happy Birthday Golden Goose .

Happy birthday to GG! I am sure she have a long and very happy life under your care

No matter how sophisticated cars may have become nowadays but the Maruti still evokes emotions going back to an era when life was simple.

My friend's Dad bought his Maruti 800 in 1985 and another one when the refresh was launched in 1986-87. Such was the hold this little car had on the Indian public.

Fast forward to the late '90s, for many young people of my generation it was the first set of wheels they could afford to buy after setting out on a long journey called life with their spouses.

So yes, the Maruti 800 will always be special.

Wow. Brilliant addition and as usual it looks like it's been since the car was bought. Brilliant and neat install. Hats off to you and your SA's. Wish every city has one like your SA. And every owner be caring like you to their steeds.
