re: Maruti Ciaz ZDi+ SHVS - Ownership Review at 60,000 km!

So, the car has completed 10K kms, and took her for scheduled third servicing.

Following landmark came on the way to Delhi, on Highway. So got the servicing done on my return back.

Maruti Ciaz ZDi+ SHVS - Ownership Review at 60,000 km!-1.jpg

Servicing Details -
After much of confusion on what kind of oil to change, finally opted for the old and trusted mineral oil which we have been using since ages. But after a lot of discussion with SA's at service centre, following picture is clear - they have three types of oil available -
one is mineral - which I opted, for 800 bucks approx.
Second is semi-synthetic - maruti and castrol partnership, for around 1800
Third being synthetic, for around 3500.

I'll probably go with semi-synthetic in my next service - or midway around 15K mark.

Also, got the annoying metallic "clunk" noise coming from left front shocker on speed breaker when break is applied fixed. It was a disk break "dust cover", which was touching the shocker. Took a picture too - part marked in red rectangle was touching the horizontal part marked in yellow. Took 2 minutes for service adviser to fix it.

No further problem was reported, so it was normal oil+oil filter+air filter change. Next servicing at 20K mark would include replacing Gear Oil + Coolent as well.

Did not went ahead with Tyre Balancing and Alignment - the rates were - in total, with weights it was costing around 1400/1500 - whereas I can get it done outside for 400rs !
On inquiring, they did mention that in future if something goes wrong with tires, and you want to claim warranty against it, it will be denied as service records will not have any mention of balancing/alignment in it.

On Main screen > Settings > Clock > Change the Mode from Manual to GPS > Adjust the time zone to India Zone (+5.30). Go back the screens.

Turned OFF, and turned ON couple of times, this time the clock is set for now. I'll monitor it for a week...

Whats with central lock adjustment ?
Thanks for that. I am still struggling with the central locking. Right now when the car is stopped the lock has to be manually or opened by the driver and is not automatic. The manual says playing around with the trip meter knows helps set it but I still can't figure it out.

You did the right thing mate. 1500 for WA+WB is too much, and that too at a MASS. And regarding the warranty claim, I have not seen or met a single person whose tyres were replaced by OEMs under warranty.

Tyre warranty in most cases is a hogwash in India, barring the unconditional warranty of Goodyear. My friend suffered uneven wear on his JKs and the dealer kept his tyres for about a month, and then said that JK declined warranty claims citing "Improper maintenance".

So as far as OEM tyres are concerned, you are on your own.

Shashi

Good you denied the Wheel alignment, Balancing at MASS. That pricing is just day light robbery.

PS: Isn't the transmission oil replaced every 40K kms?

If the Owner's manual is to be believed, their recommendation is way too high[1,60,000 kms or 10 years]. Still, if you ask me, 20K km replacement interval is an overkill. If the level is right, it should be done at 40K km interval.

A snapshot of the owner's manual

As usual the service adviser was trying to scare the crap out - "Sir Maruti would deny any warranty claims if no WA/WB records are found" - on asking specifically, that they would deny claims only against uneven wear/tire issues, he understood that his tactics would not work - and he reluctantly agreed.

You want to hear another example of robbery ? 125rs for 4 tires of Nitrogen filling - had to forcefully get this removed from to-do list, while listening to his boring explanation of advantages of it.

Yea, replacement at 1.6L kms is just too much - around 40K/50K mark sounds decent. But still to be on safe side, and on writing, I have sent an email to Maruti asking this question. Lets see how they respond.

.
They are still honest robbers. Here, the dealership chaps charge you 250 for all 5 wheels, and guess what, there was a toggle switch which said Nitrogen or Air. They were filling all wheels with toggle still on air, and were charging customers for Nitrogen.

I coolly watched all this, and politely asked them to strike that off since I have seen what they have filled. The SA sheepishly struck off those items from the list.

Shashi

I have got it confirmed via official email from Maruti, that all cars come pre-filled by mineral oil, and not synthetic. I too got the normal oil changed on first service.

re: Maruti Ciaz ZDi+ SHVS - Ownership Review at 60,000 km!

Yet another hilly trip came to an end - and the car did not disappointed me one bit. Rough patches of roads, steep inclines, narrow roads and the need for a U-Turn, power to accelerate, keeping a steady 110/120km/hr speed on highways - all completed without fuss.

(Will upload all snaps in one go - cant segregate them based on location)

Route Taken -
Gurgaon to Dalhousie >

Maruti Ciaz ZDi+ SHVS - Ownership Review at 60,000 km!-1_delhi_dalhousie.jpg

Then it was all nearby sightseeing areas - Chamera Lake, Local Market etc

It was then onto Khajjiar - roads were narrow, steep and rough with very bad patches throughout.

Second Leg of the trip was from Khajjiar > Dalhousie > Dharamshala.
Roads were excellent, scenes were nice, and the route taken was >
Khajjiar > Dalhousie > Banikhet > Nainikhadd > Left from Dunera > Nurpur > Dharamshala.

Next, it was from Dharamshala to Palampur, route was >
Dharamshala > Gopalpur > Palampur
En Route visited Chamunda Devi Temple, Gopalpur Zoo, Tea Gardens

Finally, took a lengthy way back -
Palampur > Dharamshala > Pathankot(via Nurpur) > Hoshiarpur > Phagwara > Ludhiana > Ambala
The above route is also excellent, you got to save few kms by skipping Jalandhar, and I think you'll skip couple of toll booths.

Total Kms Travelled - 1470
Total $$$ provided to Govt via Toll Booths - 1125/-
Diesel Filled up once in Dharamshala @56.21/Ltr, mileage 23.87/ltr
Second Tankfull back in NCR, mileage 24.45/ltr
Total Mileage - Approx 24km/ltr with 70% AC ON, speed ranging from 1st gear incline to 140km/hr ( average speed being 100/110 )

re: Maruti Ciaz ZDi+ SHVS - Ownership Review at 60,000 km!

The milleage you get in your ciaz in just too good. With the average speed of 100/110 I am just able to get 16-17 in my Ford fiesta. I was just wondering whether the car with full load while climbing the hills strains the engine?
Loved your way of writting a lot.

Thanks for the feedback!!
With full load, 4 adults and a kid, 5 bags and various other stuff to completely fill the boot, I did not faced an issue with straining, though had to downshift on occassional steep curves to first gear.

I am in love with mileage figures, costed me around 3400 for about 1500kms of drive. And i am sure If I would have maintained 80/90, figures would have been better.
