Should I be getting it registered again in MH or it can continue to be driven with an HR number plate? Has anyone else moved their car from Delhi (NCR) to MH or any other state where the ban does not hold good?
Best to get it re-registered in MH before the car is de-registered in the home RTO. It will be a nightmare to get NOC for transfer if it is de-registered. I know DL RTOs are over-eager in doing this, not sure about HR RTOs.

Secondly, you can try to get prorated road tax refund from HR RTO after you get the MH number. This is easier said than done though, and you will have to spent a lot of time/energy to pursue this.

Man, I feel your pain! I usually don't hold onto my daily drivers beyond 10 years, but am making an exception with the 530d because it's so damn good even as it approaches the 11th-year mark. Maybe I'll retain it for another 2 years.

Great decision! Best to keep such a good car within the family instead of selling it for peanuts. Your sis will easily get another 3 - 5 years of service from it.

As Dry Ice said, proceed with transfer formalities before the car gets de-registered. If you are so inclined, drive down to Bombay as the last hurrah! Delhi-Bombay is an epic drive.

The 530d is your daily driver? Must be a massive pain to drive and park in the city thanks to the long wheelbase, but one heck of a car when it comes to performance. Test drove a 2018 G30 from Spinny just for fun and that slingshot like acceleration at launch has me hooked to own one, despite me being a motorcyclist. I may not get the ideal 3-4 year old BMW when I can afford it - another 5 years atleast - but yes will be in my garage!

What a beautiful looking car, very well maintained, especially the cognac interiors. I second many others in stating to keep it within the family.

Off topic - are you the founder of INDmoney?

No man, you get used to the size in 100 km. Personally, I prefer big cars and would think nothing about driving an S-Class around in Bombay. Wherever I go, I tip 100 bucks and get premium parking. The sole restriction with the size / width are the really narrow lanes with 2-way traffic; they are best avoided.

One suggestion: just wait until the Delhi Mumbai Expressway opens, it's one heck of a road, drove for the 220KM from the start till lahsot, just blew my mind, absolutely lovely drive. it'll be one incredible drive once it opens.

Re: BMW 530d M-Sport (F10) : My pre-worshipped beast

Quick Update and query on my BEE EMM
It has been almost 6 months since I acquired the BEE Emm. I have clocked 4500 kms till now.as per the service schedule, the car was due for service on 1st March 2024. I took quotation from BMW Service Surat for Engine Oil service ,Air Filter ,Oil filter ,AC Micro filter for which I was quoted approximately 50000 INR. I decided to get it done through a reliable service center. Got the service done at Acura Motors in Surat .this service center caters to all German vehicles. So I took the appointment and got the service done .the entire service costed.me 16000 INR which was reasonable. Genuine Mahle spare parts were used

Few days after the service on a Sunday morning I was going to move the car away from the porch I noticed the speedometer console has gone blank I restarted the car but alas. There were fine lines on the screen with Minimal back light .the car drives but without speedometer readings. Thanks to the HUD for showing speed and other details.

Now I did some research this Speedometer unit is called 6WB . It is possible to change only the LCD panel within the speedometer assembly. Rather than the entire assembly.
Would require help from GTO and other senior members on how to go about it. I am thinking of visiting Mumbai for this. A contact number of a good service technician who is specialized in speedometer and spare part source would be highly appreciated

Re: BMW 530d M-Sport (F10) : My pre-worshipped beast

The 530d is rocking & rolling in its 11th year on the road. Been using her quite a lot around Bombay, and also had 1 enjoyable highway run with her in the last month.

The upgrade itch has started a little bit, but the 530d's endearing qualities (looks, reliability, comfortable suspension, deadly engine, deadly gearbox, opulent cabin) are making it tough to justify spending big bucks on an upgrade. So, I'm going to hold that thought for now and focus on investments instead. Other than the fact that she is 11-years old, there is absolutely no reason to sell her off. She is extremely satisfying to drive calmly in the city, extremely fast on the open road and is extremely dependable. Old BMWs that have aged well have a different kind of charm on the road. Plus, I do get my petrolhead fix from driving all the new cars launched in India.

On the other hand, with age, some niggles & wear / tear parts are blowing out. In the last one year, the brake warning light came up (brake fluid needed a flush & change), the fuel lid wasn't locking, a rat chewed off 1 small wire, the boot dampers needed to be changed (it was opening at full force with a thud) and the front foglights had completely fogged up (changed both). Nothing too serious & not a single breakdown in 11-years (*touches wood*). The servicing & repair costs of the 530d came up to 1.39 lakhs in the last year...not bad for a 11-year old complex German machine that can still show a thing or two to today's cars. This amount, of course, doesn't include detailing costs which are another 20-24k per year.

Big shoutout to Akshay & his company Redline Autohaus for fixing all of these and keeping the car in top shape . I prefer to repair even the small things, else they add up and the car starts feeling "old". As of date, my 530d feels 4-5 years old, at worst.

If you're planning to sell, then can we please connect? I am looking for a clean 530d; and a BHPIan owned car would be a great bonus!

You should get the car registered in MH before the fitness certificate gets expired. I believe that it will be a huge hasstle for you in case the fitness expires before the registration process in MH takes place. Getting your registration transfered is not a hectic process as it's a pretty common thing these days due to many vehicles from DL getting registered in other states. First thing you have to do is obtain an NOC from your RTO, afterwards having an agent in your RTO in MH will simplify the process. Do note that you have to pay the taxes in MH to get your vehicle registered over there.

***Pros***
Big D - Torque
Known Devil
Devil in return knows the Mechanic too well - Important for old Germans
Inexpensive to own (compared to a new gen German)

***Cons****
Diesel - Tech is dying out slowly, some day a big repair bill may be round the corner.
Old German - It is a WW-2 unexploded bomb, never know when it will blow (financially)
Depreciating, or already worth much lesser than its hay day

If I could put myself in your shoes, I will 'shortlist' a new-gen German, write down the 'why I want it' part and check it off against this 520D. If one ticks off majority of the 'new wants' in the exisiting car and narrows it down only to 'year of making' and 'new looks' and nothing significant stands out in that new wishlist, I would rather live with the existing memorable car.

PS - Above aside, my personal bet would be you will keep the car. I doubt you will find anything significantly wanting in a 2020-2022 (newer yet pre-worshipped) and they are ridiculously priced too, even in the used car market. It is a bit of business purchase too, so it should both satiate the heart and the mind.

Unless you prefer the only best thing happened to the lux car segment post covid - to have a 50' imax screen on your face

Dude, you're good trust me. 530d has everything one needs, the smooth inline-6 with those two turbos... dayummm! I see you have new tires too, they look crisp! Just asking, are they RFT's or normal tubeless? Hope to see you around thr city someday, till then keep killing!

P.s Keep it for as long as you love it!

Mentally prepared for it. Although, so far, the reliability has far exceeded my expectations!

It's 11 years old. The depreciation is much slower now.

The low running is another factor. The last 4 weeks, I've had a media test-drive car of a new launch. 4 cars in 4 weeks. Right now, I have the Punch EV parked down my house.

Thanks to all these newly launched cars that I have to drive (and greatly enjoy), the 530d has been started one single time in the last 8 days. Not to forget, my other fun-mobile (Thar).

One if the best BEemers ever made was this 530d iteration.

I still search for them whenever free on olx, if any one pops up
