It's too fast, too old, too complex and too expensive (to maintain) as an 18-year old's 1st car, Denali. Go get yourself a Polo / Rapid TSI for fun on a budget if you really want German driving pleasure. You'll get like new Vento / Rapid TSIs with lots of money left over for mods & maintenance.

This is a 13 year old car, and that can never be "virtually brand new". A car is meant to run and this clearly has not run at all. Even if the engine has run less, the chassis, the interiors, suspension etc are all very old. Get the car if that is what you really want but don't kid yourself into buying a 13yr old car believing it is "brand new" since the clock shows only 13k KMS.

This is from some pothole in the city as the last four times I went on the highway, it's all been in media test-drive cars. |
Hey GTO,
Sorry to hear about this incident. Would you attribute it to have RFTs? As they don't have the cushioning capabilities as compared to regular tubeless? I've never experienced cracked rims and I drive in Hyderabad and highways and have faced some bad potholes.
Another thing that I would like to discuss with all 530d owners here is that today I went to get my car tyres aligned and balanced and the tyre shop person was mentioning that rear tyres camber can only be done at the BMW service center as a lot of components have to be removed to reach the rear camber setting screw. He was able to align the front toe and camber along with the rear toe.
Has anyone found better tubeless (no RFT) tyre alternatives than Dunlops? The dealers here are recommending Pirelli P7 for about 20% more price than that of dunlops and I'm not convinced.
Really hoping a good set of Michelins come out for our rides.

Agreed that RFTs are harder on the rims, but my previous two sets were tubeless tyres and like a bi-annual ritual, the rims suffered a crack every 5 - 6 months. 2 bends / year are a given.
Things have gotten so bad that I didn't take the 530d on a recent road-trip to the Nashik vineyards. I knew the road was horrible with too many potholes.

The Dunlops were horrible! Lots of punctures & extremely fast wear & tear. They started giving up just after the 10,000 km mark. Never again.

Really surprised to hear this but going to be very aware now that you mentioned it is definitely not specific to just RFT tyres.

Surprisingly I have a set of 2019 manufactured Dunlops and have done upwards of 33,000kms on them and I am satisfied with them. At this point the rears are almost hitting the tyre change marker but the fronts have plenty of tread depth in them. But I do feel lower levels of grip for sure and I kinda like this feeling lol:
At this point I'm also having to top up air in the tires every week as there is a 1-3PSI drop due to micro punctures I believe.
I have just received a good quote for Pirelli P7's for the 530d but I'm a little sceptical about going to Pirelli because my previous experience of changing from Contisport 3 to Pirelli PZeros has been bad. Had a lot of tyre bursts/cuts on the Pirellis.

Wow! I guess it's down to driving style then. I have been through 3 different brands of tyres and never once got over 20,000 - 22,000 km from any set.

Please don't get P7s. They're terrible tyres, even more so in the rain.
Hi Denali,
You can't buy old cars if you want it to drive in NCR. Do not buy them. Additionally anything which older than 6 years is a problem and won't recommend for maintenance issues.
Also if you want to keep the car for some time look only for BS 6 engines.
Good luck 🤞
Has anyone just replaced their rims with forged alloys? Probably more convenient than wasting time and money repeatedly repairing or replacing the rims with the same soft original alloys.

Agreed! This is exactly what Akshay1234 recommended to me, when he heard about my frequently bent rims. The OEM ones are too soft and easily damaged. I have a feeling it's all the more prominent with the 5-spoke facelift rims (as opposed to the pre-facelift multispoke ones). Akshay said there are many, stronger wheel options in the aftermarket.

The car will be driven in and around Chandigarh. Currently, there is no rule in effect enforcing the scrapping of 10 year old diesels/temporary ban on usage of bs3 and bs4 vehicles here. I've dropped the idea of getting a used executive german automobile. Will get an Accord 2.4/PS instead.
@GTO, sorry to hijack your thread, but rendered your car in BeamNG.drive, and must say, the results are very pleasing :D . The car does not feel like a 11+ year old design, feels very mature and fluidic. Love how BMW nailed the design in those days V/S what they are doing now (I'm looking at you 7 series!). Hold on to her as long as possible. Sorry about the rear number plate, fell off somewhere while reaching the spot chosen for the clicks. Please do provide your inputs about where the car differs from yours, will be glad to acknowledge. Also posted this in the gaming photography thread, meanwhile, feast your eyes!
I'm looking into buying an F10 530d(2014+) soon. Wondering how good of an idea it is considering it is now a 10 year old car and what I should be prepared for if I do go for one. I don't mind old cars, In fact I still have a 21 year old Palio S10, But that is hardly comparable in terms of complexity and part costs. I need this car to last for a long time to come and be dependable as the main family car going forth. Any info will be of great help:)

530d today in 2024? I will buy it even after 5 years. :uncontrol Most of us petrolheads want to own this 6 cylinder diesel.

Suggest following the
TBHP used car guide. Ideally get the car inspected at BMW or the FNG. Since the car would be out of warranty, find a reliable FNG which you can trust your car on.

GTO can comment better on this aspect but imo it would be great to preferably have another Japanese steed just in case. A 10 year old car can surely run for many more years as long as the previous owner(s) have maintained it well.
My F10 in NCR is now getting close to end of life :( Just done only 53k. A sad moment!
I am planning to send it to Mumbai to my sister.
Wanted to get advice from the community here :
Should I be getting it registered again in MH or it can continue to be driven with an HR number plate? Has anyone else moved their car from Delhi (NCR) to MH or any other state where the ban does not hold good?
