Re: The Sherpa - My Mahindra Thar CRDe 4x4

Brilliant write up Sumitro Da.
If one will have to buy a Thar, he should read your review and would not need any official review further. The pictures are very beautiful and completely do justice to the Sherpa. I need a ride in your Sherpa when we meet next.

Regards,
Swapnil

Re: The Sherpa - My Mahindra Thar CRDe 4x4

Recently went to Puri from Kolkata and the Thar as usual performed very well. However it returned just about 10 kmpl over the 1200 odd kilometers trip.

A pic from the trip taken near Chandrabhaga on the Konark-Puri highway..

Re: The Sherpa - My Mahindra Thar CRDe 4x4

The Sherpa has got a new set of HRS alloys after the previous set was transferred to the Bolero. Sorry for the poor quality of pics taken with my old iphone4

Shouldn't Sherpas now be in Nepal helping with rescue and rebuilding?

Re: The Sherpa - My Mahindra Thar CRDe 4x4

Completed 7 months today and 10000 Kilometers on the Thar. Running has been pretty low compared to my other vehicles owned over the years. The Bolero had completed 20K kilometers in the first 6 months
I deliberately drive it less to continue having that new car feeling. The vehicle has been niggle free after the few initial hiccups. No leaks anywhere and the coolant level is consistent after driving several thousand kilometers. Need to get the 10K servicing done this week.

Re: The Sherpa - My Mahindra Thar CRDe 4x4

Hi BlackPearl, really amazing review you got there and I love the modifications just for the sheer simplicity and practicality if nothing else.! So we're also interested in buying the Thar, went for a test drive today as well. Having read your review, I'm really inclined towards convincing my father to get it, but have a couple of questions.
1. Should we wait for the face-lift.? (The dealership doesn't know when its coming)
2. Is the central console you installed available easily.?
3. Would you recommend changing the bumpers and getting accessories (front mesh grille, head light cage, etc.) while buying the car.?

Thanks.!

Thanks a lot abir.sharda. to answer your questions -
1. Frankly speaking I have no idea about the face-lift. I saw a Thar in our locality with the new slanted canopy but could not get a look at the interiors. If the interiors are going to be better then please do wait for the face-lift.
2. I was not able to install the central console as it was fouling with the music system head unit. But I am thankful that I did not install it as it is very easy to move around inside the vehicle without the central console.
3. That is completely up to you. Some people prefer to keep the looks stock for sometime and then change later, while some change it immediately upon purchase. There are others who keep it completely stock. The Mahindra showroom in my case agreed to install the accessories only after registration of the vehicle. They said that it was necessary to produce the vehicle to the RTO in the stock format.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the quick reply.!

I really don't mind the interiors on the current Thar as shabby as they may look but it does the job at least And after looking at your subtle and tasteful mods, I'll do something on those lines.

Oh and I see you placed the 6x9 speakers under the back seats, where did you get the 6"ers fitted.? Also, did you get spacers fitted between the rear alloys to make the front and rear track width the same.?

One 6" is fitted beside the driver seat and the other behind the co-driver seat.
I have not fitted any spacer at the rear, the tracks are still different. Maybe it is not so apparent from the pictures.

Re: The Sherpa - My Mahindra Thar CRDe 4x4

The Sherpa looks gorgeous in our Kolkata streets, its like a streak of white lighting, now piloted by Teesta , and Blackpearl. The Thar culture in Kolkata is on the rise, and that is good news for us.

The Thar looks really really good. I will not hesitate to tell you that this is one of the best-looking Thars, if not the best, I have come across. Laid back, subtle, but really good.

I myself have started pondering upon a possible purchase in due time. Maybe. Maybe not, I don't know. But I feel the need for a 4WD in the days to come. I don't drive out much, but when I do, I seem to head up to the hills on not particular good roads; the T-Jet may need to be replaced; I might go for a pre-worshipped MM540 or Thar (preworshipped, - I know hard to find).

Cheers!

Re: The Sherpa - My Mahindra Thar CRDe 4x4

HI Blackpearl,

The Alloys on The Sherpa looks gorgeous. BTW, i might have missed it earlier - There is an antenna sticking out of the front bumper, does it work or is it just a show piece. Either way, where can I get one from as I would like to fix one in my Thar probably at the right rear end. Please let me know.
