While the nightmare continues, that dreaded stretch between Hinganghat and Adilabad has improved a lot, notwithstanding the monsoon rains. Now, there is a toll section of ₹ 30 with neat 4-lane road with a median, demarcated lanes, signages with occasional potholes here and there for about 30 km! There is also a big 6-laned flyover too. Compared to my last trip in Sep 2014, the craters and potholes have drastically reduced, I must confess! That's why, I must have reached my Nagpur hotel ahead of schedule.

Sir, wishing you a safe journey. How about places to eat from chennai to Nagpur and fuel stations. Trip to Agra is on the cards, any other pointers to note on this route?

There are some eateries on both the sides of NH 5 from Chennai to Ongole. Since we packed idlies from home, we didn't have dinner/breakfast from the road-side eateries. There is one HP COCOO at Kavali and BP COCOO at Ongole, both on the LHS. After Ongole, you have to turn to the left to drive towards Hyderabad on a good toll SH. But, eateries and fuel stations are less until you join NH at Narketpallly. Again, there are plenty of fuel stations and some eateries on the NH upto Adilabad. After you enter MH from Adilabad, until you arrive Nagpur, not much of facilities are available on the road-side. Similarly, facilities are very less on the NH until you reach Agra except town and urban areas.

Don't forget to turn to left after Ongole towards Addanki as there is a big flyover coming up at the Y-fork. Lots of road-widening works are in progress on NH 5 upto Ongole. So drive carefully.

Purple Cheetah In Agra

We visited Taj Mahal for free today morning, thanks to World Tourism Day. P. Cheetah brought us safely and comfortably to Bansi Home Stay, Agra, last night at 11:51 pm. I enjoyed driving on the beautiful 2-laned toll NH 547 on the Nagpur>Chhindwara>Narsinghpur section. I hated driving from Jhansi to Gwalior because of heavy traffic on the potholed 2-lane narrow road.

Purple Cheetah In Bhimtal

We checked into The Retreat, Bhimtal at 8 pm today. Earlier, we had left Bansi Home Stay, Agra after delicious and sumptuous breakfast at 8:30 am today. Thanks to the bad roads in UP [after Aligarh, before Moradabad and Rampur - Rudrapur section] we reached our destination a coupla hours late. Roads were good after entering Rudrapur in UK.

Did you take the Aligarh Narora Babrala Chandausi Mooradabad route? That route is perennially bad.

Yes. I did not want to go by YE as I wanted to try different routes for the up and down journeys. The owner of Bansi Home Stay, Agra, vouched for this route.

20 km after Aligarh and 20 km before Moradabad are bad with some bad stretches inbetween. The rest of the section are okay. Agra - Aligarh is a good toll road.

Awesome. Was the temple crowded? How was the road from Ranikhet to Badrinath? Were you able to drive all the way to the temple or had to do a bit of trekking?

re: Mahindra XUV500 W8 FWD: My Pet Purple Cheetah EDIT: Sold!

Again an awesome Live travelogue Ravi Sir.
By the way, i too have got home the Cheetah and did it's first outing i.e. Delhi - Mukteshwar - Delhi.

For a next time to avoid 40 KM bad stretch from Rampur to Rudrapur, please use Rampur -> Baazpur -> Haldwani (Bypass), this route skips Rudrapur and takes you to Haldwani bypass, it has a 5 Km bad stretch but the rest of the roads are pot free and beautiful to drive on (Corbett range on road sides).

Wishing you a happy Journey.
