Snippet from Team-BHP link (I'm not sure if applicable for Honda City though): "Team-BHP recommends that you change your engine oil after the first 1,000 km. |
There is no end to this debate. You will find all kinds of info and recommendations on this.
Here's my 2 cents. Modern engines are built to much closer tolerances than, say, a decade back. Not all engines 'run-in' in 1000 or 1500km. My Jazz for instance took a good 6-7k km to fully free up. And then, the people who designed the engine know it the best.
Also, oil changes cost a fair bit. Gone are the days of a Rs1000-1500 oil change.
If the manufacturer says 10000km, I'll tend to go by that. At max, I might change it at 5000km if they had involved plenty of highway driving. But not sooner.

Keep your foot on the accelerator till you press set, then another light should light up in the instrument cluster. It won't set if your foot isn't on the accelerator. |
Tried this approach also and the car is not getting into Cruise Control  - I guess I will get this checked when I give the car for 1st Service in a week. In the meantime if there are other suggestions on what I may be missing - please let me know.
Did you face any problem with the fuel gauge not indicating anything when you fill Rs500 worth fuel when the tank is almost empty? An in, it requires a minimum quantity of fuel to register an input....??
In my Jazz, it takes at least Rs1000 worth petrol, sometimes even more, for the fuel gauge to move when the tank is almost empty(DTE 0 or in single digits). Lesser, and the fuel gauge does just not rise from E and the low fuel lamp continues to glow.
Whenever I reset the tripmeter, the average fuel efficiency figures goes up to weird 32-33 kpl before settling at an usual 19-20 kpl after a few kilometres. Does this happen to most of the cars or all generations of the City? Or is it a problem with the Multi-info display meter?

Don't know about others but same thing happens in my Manza.

The opposite happens in my Swift, before reset it is 21-22.5 kmpl but after reset it goes down to 14-15 kmpl.
Are the FE figures that you achieve via the MID similar to the full tank method? If they are then nothing to worry.
Anurag.
According to the fuel tank method, I am getting around 16-17 kpl in town with AC on and 20 kpl in the highways with AC on. These figures are quite similar to what is shown in the MID.

From my research there was a deviation of +/- 0.8 variation from the display.
In the initial run up after a tank full, I have also seen readings of 30-32 kmpl - this maybe realistic also if you are going down an incline downwards and not pushing the pedal much...
In fact if we have to end up with an AVG of 20 kmpl, at some points in that overall run the mileage figure should have been really 30+...
Recently drove the City at speeds of 130-140 kph. The steering is pretty light at high speeds. The performance is adequate, not in the league of a Vento diesel though. In the 5th gear at 100 kph, the tachometer reads a 2400 rpm; and in the 6th gear at 100 kph, the tachometer gives a reading of 2000 rpm. Zero turbo-lag means overtaking in the highways is a breeze.

Just to compare :D, the DDiS engine does the same in:
80 kmph @ 5th gear at 1980 rpm
100 kmph @ 5th gear at 2300 rpm.
No sixth gear though in Maruti cars :(
So if the same is given a 6th gear then 100 kmph will be at 2000 rpm. Yeah! Maruti, are you listening?!
Long highway trips on the Honda will yield good mileage if the car status in 6th gear for a longer duration. How is the ride at 100 kmph? Does it feel boat-like?
How is the roll-on from 80 kmph to 110 kmph in 5th & 6th gear respectively?
Anurag.
It feels pretty much planted till 120-130 kph. No boat-like ride. Its quite composed. I used the cruise control at 100 kph for a wide and empty stretch of 12 kms and it works absolutely fine.
Some pics of the car.
Nice pics. I love black in cars. Just a pain to maintain.
Can you explain how cruise control works in city.
I thought of testing it during td but too much traffic around so didn't get the opportunity.

You just have to go in excess of speeds of 70-80 kph. Then press the cruise button on. Then press the set "-" or "+" button and take off your foot from the accelerator pedal. The cruise will be set on.
I am however not sure when to press "-" and "+" and if there is any difference between the two. Generally I press "-" and the cruise is set. Can anybody please share the significance or difference between these two modes?

When you are in cruise mode, the + and - buttons are used to increase or decrease the cruise speed. For example, if you enabled cruise at 100kmph, and would like to reduce the speed to 90kmph without applying the brake (which would exit cruise), you would repeatedly press the - button and the speed will reduce.

I struggled a bit initially as well. The "+" key also stands for Resume function which means you can resume Cruise Control after breaking to the previously set speed. The "-" key stands for Set function and used to set/lock the speed apart from reducing speed as called out.
My other issue is that the manual says cruise control works post 40kmph but could be the manual is an international version and Honda has tweaked the settings for India...
