I have noticed that if the total number of songs exceed 4.5GB, then the HU refuses to read the latest added songs. I have folders like "Latest Hindi", "English", "Enigma", "Kumar Sanu", etc etc. So if I add a folder named "Raamleela", the HU doesn't pick up this folder if the total increases beyond 4.5GB. So I delete some songs from other folders and keep it under 4.5GB. Then the latest added folder "Ramleela" shows up in the HU folder selector.

No amount of formatting / putting in one single folder helps. I just have to maintain under 4.5GB.

I haven't gone back through the pages in this thread, whether your Sail has the standard HU or did you install any aftermarket HU ?

May be there is a handling capacity of Chevy's standard HUs'.

I have the standard HU. The old pendrive had about 7.5 GB of songs in it.
In my experience it was playing all 8 GB of songs in the drive.

The new pendrive has about 4 GB. I will copy a few more songs into it and verify.

That would be interesting !! Please check and let me know if the new pen drive, fully loaded upto 8GB is read by your HU.

I had a 4GB PD and it was working fine since 2 years. I upgraded to 8GB and since the last 1 year the HU fails to read beyond 4.5GB. I never bothered since I assumed that the HU capacity was 4.5GB.
Now, it could be either of the below two:

- The HU has gone for a toss. (May be it was a mfg defect, I never tested beyond 4GB for 2 years).
- The standard handling capacity is 4.5GB (or may be 5GB).

My few 2010 posts from Beat Petrol Test Drive Thread

To conclude, Beat's HU can play only 999 songs irrespective of GBs. (999 is total number of songs including the folders and sub-folders)

Now my songs are spread across 3 8GB pen-drives.

Cheers!

Vinu

I copied about 7.5 GB of music into my old Croma 8GB Pen Drive.
According to windows explorer there are about 1295 mp3 files spread over a lot of folders.

ICE identified about 1200 MP3's and played them all.

The new HP Pen Drive does not play if its has 5 GB of music. There is some issue when its used with the ICE. Over the next few days I will in the interest of science try and find its limit. :)

Last petrol fillup returned about 12.5 kmpl.

Some Stats on mileage:
Best: 14.77 kmpl.
Average: 12.24 kmpl
Worst: 11.37 kmpl.

I use Shell Ordinary petrol that sells at 81.xx per liter.
Cost per km: 6.76
Expected Avg Fuel Cost in one year: 79210.21

I have filled up fuel 7 times since I bought the car i.e 64 days of ownership.
Rs 16969 in fuel costs for the 207.33 liters so far.

I log my milage using FuelLog

Little geeky but check what formatting is there on your pen drive.

If its FAT32 then I believe the issues of the 4.5G will come. If its NTFS it should be flawless.

Can you verify that once?

It is FAT32.

I will change it to NTFS and check it out tomorrow.

Converted the drive to NTFS. The ICE threw an error (ER 1) and did not play it.

I don't know if any of the OEM supplied music systems can recognize anything but FAT file system. All the cars I have owned had this limitation. Perhaps even today all the cars south of 15 lakhs can't read anything but FAT file system. Experts can throw some more light on this.

A weird issue with my car.

This is the second time its done this.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXQacX66V_8

When the AC is on, the car revs up and down.
AC off it settles to its usual 700-800 rpm.

The last time it did this it did a couple of jumps between 500 - 1500 rpm.

Any idea what is the issue.

After this traffic light I drove home about 16 kms with absolutely no issues.
The rpm jumps did not happen in my parking lot.

The last time was about on 17-Oct. Since then I have driven over 150 kms without any issues.

My white elephant had the same problem. Did you show your car any pictures of mine?
In my case they could not get to the bottom, so just went through and changed the entire engine(well almost).
So unless there is an error code, its going to be hit and trial at the service center.

My cousin owns a Sail sedan (Petrol). He had faced similar problem or rather still facing. In his case RPM needle fluctuates even when the car is stand still (engine does not revv up, just the needle jumps).

At city speeds this becomes disconcerting since that time not just the needle, but the engine revs also jump. As the RPM rises the problem goes off. I don't know after what point it goes off. Will get more information and share here.

The service center did a ECU reset which solved the problem for a couple of days after which it reared its head again.

As the is approaching 400 kms the idling level has actually come down from the earlier 800 rpm to 700 rpm.

What is the rpm in your car?

Dear bblost,

The RPM you have mentioned is correct, my car idles at 700 RPM once the engine is hot.

I recently did a 486 kms highway trip with 4 adult on-board, 100% AC. It returned 17.7 kmpl. I Kept it between 90 to 100 most of the times.

What are your figures?

No major highway ride yet. Couple are expected in December. Should be able to get a good idea.
and your 17.7 kmpl. :thumbs upclap:

Dear BBLost,

Just wanted to thank you for putting up an excellent thread. Your insights have helped in my decision to buy a SAIL Sedan. I have taken the delivery as of yesterday and will soon put up an initial ownership thread.

thanks again.

I have not taken the car to the service center.
Don't want anyone trying experiments on it.

What I have observed is:
1. Restarting the car fixes the issue.
2. Happens only if driven for at least 10 kms in moderate traffic.
3. A hunch. This does not happen if I insert the key, rotate it once, wait for all warning lights to go off and then start the engine. Also not pressing any of the foot pedals when the engine is still off.

Tsk: In your case did restarting fix the issue?
It does not recur after restarting. At least did not in the next 10 odd kms that I continued to drive
