re: My BRUTE-FORT: Toyota Fortuner 4x4 M/T [Upgraded Brake Booster & A/T Tyres] EDIT: Now sold!

Hello All,

An off topic question. I found this is the best thread to ask my question.

What are the risk for a pre-owned Fortuner?

A 2.8 Lac KM 2010 Fortuner. Is it advisable to buy this Fortuner?
What should i look before buying?

And a general query, Is it expensive to maintain a Fortuner?

Last edited by Gannu_1 : 12th January 2016 at 12:52. Reason: TFort > Fortuner. Please avoid using acronyms while referring to cars on the forum. Thanks!

Out of all the pre-owned Fortuners you liked a 2.8 lakh run Fortuner?
At 2.8 lakh km every thing will have to be replaced at least once.
What price is the seller demanding?
It's not expensive to maintain a Fortuner the costliest thing you will have to replace are the tyres.

re: My BRUTE-FORT: Toyota Fortuner 4x4 M/T [Upgraded Brake Booster & A/T Tyres] EDIT: Now sold!

Have sent the car for 65,000 km service.

This is that 5k interval service which some of the Fortuner owners skip, But i still chose to send the car as the car is checked thoroughly for various faults & the regular cleaning / washing was needed.

ALSO the brakes need a check as i feel the front pads might be worn out.

re: My BRUTE-FORT: Toyota Fortuner 4x4 M/T [Upgraded Brake Booster & A/T Tyres] EDIT: Now sold!

Update: 65,000 km service;

As suspected the brakes were 'gone' & both front brake pads were changed. The disc was just skimmed & not replaced.

The rear drums & liners were replaced too & went in for a new kit.

During last service the interior wasnt cleaned well so this service they gave the car a complimentary interior clean up.

Other small jobs included Air filter cleaning, A/C disinfection, propeller shaft greasing & the regular exterior washing.

The total cost involved this time was a heavy sum of Rs 28,335/- (Incl. of taxes)

Job well done

Good to see your Fortuner chugging alone nicely. The service bill at 29k seems shockingly high for a car like Fortuner, do you have the break up of what the parts costed?

Why were the rear drums/liners changed so soon? Changing at 65k is premature as the drums/linings are mostly cleaned till 1 lakh kms.

Definitely the price is higher than expected from Toyota, im attaching the bill for your reference;

Regarding the life of brakes (rear drums). Well to be fair & honest im a FAST Driver and this is my 3rd set of Front Brake pads, considering that changing the rear drum kit was expected to arrive earlier than usual (i.e. 1L kms as you said)

BUT i can definitely say that my Fortuner is one of the best kept Fortuners anyone can find in the Indian market today

My BRUTE-FORT: Toyota Fortuner 4x4 M/T [Upgraded Brake Booster & A/T Tyres]

Puncture Update;

Late December i had gone to Lonavala for 2 nights & while checking out of the Hotel i found out that the front left tyre had an air loss.

Thankfully Hilton hotels laundry had an air pump from which their staff helped me refill air & get the car back to Mumbai without any issues.

The Continentals are right now just about 25k kms old & have performed brilliantly so far, considering this is the 1st puncture i'v had on them

My Fortuner AT is due for its 40K service. It will help to know the approximate service cost I can expect including Synthetic oil for engine. I am planning to add reverse sensors (got only camera now) from Toyota this time (around 4 K is the price)

40k service will be going through regular filter & oil changes & the cost will be around INR 7-8k max.

My 40k service was eventful as i upgraded the brake booster & also changed the pads & discs, you can read more about my 40k service in this post;
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/long-t...ml#post3317120

Parking sensors came standard in my car, aftermarket accessory shops get this job done in around INR 2,500.

Also recently i got parking sensors ordered online from ebay for my Ford Figo for aprox Rs 900 & got them fit for INR 300 hence total cost for sensors was Rs 1200, check this post;
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/test-d...ml#post3880793

BUT if you want a standard TOYOTA accessory you can go ahead with the INR 4000 option.

re: My BRUTE-FORT: Toyota Fortuner 4x4 M/T [Upgraded Brake Booster & A/T Tyres] EDIT: Now sold!

In you bill page 2/2, I see grease of 50 gms worth Rs. 1008. Which grease is this much costly? Then they wrote quantity 30, what is 30 quantity means in the bill?

Or they mean, 30 Packets of 50 Gms each? This means 1.5 Kgs of Grease.

Also, one more observation. What is local taxes 962 Rs.? Never heard this tax term before. Someone, please clarify.

Thanks Karan. Does that include the Synthetic oil cost? I saw details on your 40K Service, I can exclude the brake part since the pads were replaced at 30K service itself. On the sensor part, 2.5 K to 4 K was not a big difference, but online price 1.2 K to 4 K is definitely a big difference.

Hey Anuj,

Thanks for pointing it out, well that grease is used for propeller shaft greasing. After you mentioned i took that point with Lakozy Toyota and they confirmed that its their mistake because only 0.5Kg is used in this & somehow they have mentioned 1.5 Kg. The difference amount they are willing to give an accessory free or discount on the next service, So yes Thanks for that

Regarding the local tax, that is the LBT.

That isn't the synthetic oil but the regular Toyota grade

Yikes. The Fortuner almost looks puny! Standalone pics of the new Endeavour does not give one an idea about its size.
